Publicist Kristen Foster said Saturday that the singer had died, but the cause and the location of her death were unclear.

I agree, I was surprised that she was only 48. I thought she was in her 50's or 60's.
The realization of her young age just makes the death even sadder.
I was never too much of a fan, but through "I Will Always Love You" and "I Wanna Dance (With Somebody)", I knew of her amazing voice.
Rest in peace, Whitney!

I just saw this on the news. I’m honestly so shocked right now. She has a movie, Sparkle, coming out and I heard she was working on another album. I can't believe this.
Rest in peace.

cried for over a hour!
I honestly feel like like I've lost a friend! I think about how many times I have played her greatest hits and re-enacted her songs, or how me and my friends used to get pumped up to her dance remixes before hitting the clubs!! how we used to watch the BODYGUARD over and over!!! so sad! Miss you NIPPY

This is so sad and shocking! She was trying to make a come back about two/ three years ago too. It's like when Michael Jackson died all over again. It's true what they say, only the good die young. I'm sad that her life was messed up at the end by drugs, but her music will live on forever!
R.I.P. Whitney.

Wow, today is Brandy's birthday! She and Whitney starred in Cinderella together in 1997 & I was just listening to the soundtrack earlier today! Ironic. I dont know what possessed me to listen to the soundtrack today. I didn't even know it was Brandy's birthday. Then 30 mins after I was done, they announced Whitney's death.

Really, really shocking and sad. Cried when I heard about it. Huge fan of her, her voice and her music is wonderful and will live on forever. A beautiful woman with a beautiful soul and the voice of an angel. So happy I got to see her live a few years back. Rest in peace Whitney and thank you for everything, you will always be remembered.

I forgot to add, besides her amazing music, she had a number of hands in Disney projects. Besides producing (and staring in) the 1997 tv version of "Cinderella," she was also a producer for both "Cheetah Girls" and "Princess Diaries" films. Again, she'll be missed.

Yes this is really, really sad. It came as a shock to me, because she was making a comeback, reportedly not on drugs anymore, and it's Whitney, it's her. If you don't like her music, okay, but she was undeniably one of our biggest and best and most famous talents in music. I have to say she had one of the best, most beautiful, amazing voices I have ever heard in my entire life. Shame she ruined it some with drugs, and even much more of a terrible shame that she may have ruined her life to this dreadful end with them as well.
Rest in peace Whitney. Now your voice will fit right in with the angels up there.

Rip whitney,
I was on a rare night out and Whitney's song came on and somebody said she's dead and didn't believe it got BBC news on my mobile and was completely shock everybody in the club stopped and was on mobile, my mobile made it through half the club by people reading it. It was a surreal moment. A great amount of talent that we will never see any more
