Forgive my ignorance, but how exactly does Disney Movie Rewards work?

I'm asking because after years of throwing away the inserts that come in Disney DVDs, I'm finally comtemplating using codes to get points for Disney merchandise.

You enter in the codes on the inserts with your DVD/Blu-rays into the DMR website, and earn points (membership is free). When you get enough points you can redeem them for an item on the site. Shipping is usually free.

Well, I took the plunge yesterday and signed up for Disney Movie Rewards, went through all my Disney DVDS, and discovered TEN that had codes. So I entered all the codes and I have 1000 points. I will likely wait a while, though, before I redeem anything. Frankly, all I'm interested in getting are the DACS and Pixar DVDS. Some have a pretty high point value, though, and I don't won't to deplete most of my points at once just for one purchase. I'm also going to avoid any that might require shipping; I know I'll have to tell my parents what I did the first time I order something. I hope they won't get upset, but if I order something where I have to pay shipping, they probably would get mad at me.

I've redeemed points for DVDs a number of times and I have yet to have had to pay shipping for anything.

I hope that helps.

Yeah, I know. But I have heard that some select rewards may require shipping, and I don't think my dad would appreciate having to handle that, even if it's only a few $; I don't have any credit cards of my own, so when I order stuff from Amazon, Dad has to help me with it. We're not poor by any means, but we do try to watch our money, so if I can avoid the possibility of having to pay shipping on any Rewards I redeem, so much the better.

Shipping it FREE on ALL Rewards.
If you buy a deal on the homepage or in Member extras than you have to pay for shipping.

You know, i have so many of those reward codes, but can't use them because I'm not in the US. So unfair...

I also have a few UK rewards, but can't use those either since I'm not in the UK...and Holland doesn't have a rewards code system at all!

Disney doesn't mind me buying their dvds and shipping them to me, they just don't want to send any free goodies to me... 8)

There's no value to the codes themselves, right? I might just give them away to people that can use it, or wait till I'm in the US again for a couple of weeks. Would it be possible to redeem anything then?

Maybe you could try this
1. make an account at disneymovierewards.com
2. enter a friends address (in the U.S.) to ship the items to
3. when you come here you could just meet them and get your stuff??

Now you just make me feel sad, because, because....well, because I have no friends in the US :(

A bunch of the movies are also online, so when you enter your codes, not only do you get your points, you can also watch the movie thru their website. Not all movies have this feature, but as an example, I can watch Up and TRON Legacy thru their website. It's an alright feature as I can login anywhere there is internet available, and I can watch a movie. 8)

I haven't paid any shipping for any of the DVDS, excpet for the Blu-Ray player I ordered last year.

For the bigger prizes like the tours, I heard the Mouse House sends over a crack team of FBI agents to search your house and prove that every point you have saved up is valid...

...just kidding, but almost.

You're telling me. I am going through that hassle right now for a Radio Disney tour.
It's more fun when we're number 1!

What a weird reward. I think this one beats out the coupon for a box of popcorn as the biggest head scratcher

The DNA kits are used in case your child is kidnapped or runs away. That way you have all the information the police need in one location.

I admit it is a really weird reward though.

What good is a free movie ticket if you still have to pay? :x

Went to see Beauty and the Beast 3D tonight with my "free" movie ticket from DMR. Little did I know Cineplex hiked the price of a regular 3D movie to $15.99  . The coupon/ticket was just good up to $14.99 - so I had to pay the $1.99 difference. DMR should take note of this and adjust future tickets to the new Canadian price.

Seems like that info is more about identifying the body rather than finding the kid. One of those chip implants is what you'd need for that (not that I want to put those chips in myself or my potential, future children). Weird reward for sure.

PS: Okay, I'm freaking out! I just saw Condorman is back up as a reward! And I'm only 75 points away! If only they'd give me my points for the Muppets soundtrack!

Well, at least you got in mostly free. I had to pay the full price for myself and my date, and I don't have an income right now. I guess I had just forgotten how expensive 3D movies are (I generally choose 2D), and I was a little taken aback by the nearly 30 bucks I had to pay for just the movie part of our evening.

Well, that happened to me when I went to see Toy Story 3 and used the coupon from the Blu-Ray release. Still a pretty good bargain to see a 3-D film for only two dollars.
