Good! There doesn't seem to be a lot of female main characters in movies who live happily without a significant other. I'm not against couples. It's nice to see, for a change, characters (male and female) who have no interest in a love affair.

That wouldn't be the only thing. She might also be the first Disney princess not to sing. (And i'm saying official seeing as how Eilonwy and Kida did not sing but weren't part of the franchise for obvious reasons).

Their best shot at maximizing their audience is to underplay any intent of molding Merida into the princess franchise. The alleged stigma that stifled The Princess and the Frog's reception might still be fresh on Disney's mind, but at least unlike Tangled, they won't have to rely on any gimmicks to attract a wide audience.

It might attract old brave heart fans who are sad that Mel Gibson has fallen from grace. I don't know about you but Merida I think will get a lot of fan boys anway because some men do want an amazon.

I heard from someone that Disney confirmed that she might not be in the lineup because she's Pixar. :( I hope this is not true because she's techinally Disney.

Yeah, if she does get added, it'll be interesting. I have a feeling she will get a prince by the looks of the trailer of her finding a husband. But, it'll be weird having her not sing.

I don't want Merida in the Princess line-up. I can imagine her cool sober clothes being traded in for clothes in pastel colors and artists in charge of Merida clipart will eventually no longer care about keeping her clipart on-model.

I just watched the trailer again and in the shot where Elinor orders Merida to stop, I kind of detected a dog next the seat where the king is. Did anyone else catch this?

I shouldn't think she will be included; I think the Princess line is for canon ladies only.

Though with Disneys totally odd and random descisions recently, I wouldn't be suprised if she was included. I honestly don't think she would fit though ? :?

I think she will be in the line because Disney is one part corperation that sells stuff and animated studio and they sometimes intertwine.I also think they would not miss this opportunity to make their first marketable Pixar Princess.Sure, she won't have a significant other but the girls will just adore her anyway.

I was also thinking this would be a movie with a non evil queen as well.I know there are rare good Disney queens but Queen Elinor in this movie will be more than a background character and a major main character because her relationship with her daughter will be the driving force.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Disney officially announce that Merida would be the first Pixar character added to the Princess line? Or am I making up things?

Sorry if I have confused people !

I don't remember ever reading that. People have speculated from the beginning, but as far as I know there has not been any kind of official announcement either way.

Yeah, but that was from 2007 or 2008. Things must have changed.

Where did you hear this? Was it from a reliable source?

The official Pixar website has been updated to include Brave.

I actually remember seeing something on Animated News that said she was going to be in the lineup. But that was a few years ago, so I don't remember what the source was.

As ridiculous as the franchise is becoming, it would be interesting if she did join the line-up. Because she would add a little diversity since all the other princesses are from the canon films.

Yes,if the corperate side of Disney does the smart thing then they could have a chance to add another action girl to their party line. This time she will be without a love interest however mothers will buy Merida products because of the fact she is independent and strong.Or mothers will relate to her mother Queen Elinor espically if they have an older daughter while having a younger daughter as well.

Why so? Why do you consider it to be ridiculous?

Well, like as many people said, some of the characters seem a little different than their cinematic counterpoints (many people have cited Belle as a prime example) and in my opinion it gives the wrong impression about the actual movies.
