Remember this when you were going to watch a Disney movie?

Plus, I didn´t mind the trailers.
Also, the big white VHS cases...in Europe purple ones; but still you could tell that it was a Disney movie and that you were going to have a great time.
Of course I want my movies with the best video/audio quality and extras... but, don´t you think that in the middle of all this latest in technology something has been missing?

Yes, it's called nostalgia.DC Fan wrote:Don´t you think that in the middle of all this latest in technology something has been missing?

I mean, back then the movies were always available and you only cared to have them.
Now it´s all about "limited time only", Limited Issue-Gold Collection-Special Edition-Anniversary Edition-Big Top/Most Wanted Edition-Platinum-Diamond..., you buy this movie but not everything is included with it...
PS
Also, I was quite happy with the Gold Collection line under the premise that: all movies had the same packaging plus they had a reasonable price.
If, Disney would only digitally restored all of them and including extras...that would have been awesome.

But back then there still was the 'Disney Vault' and limited, collector's edition VHS tapes with unique packaging, lithographs, extra tape with bonus features and other goodies. So, the market hasn't really changed that much.DC Fan wrote:

I never really liked that intro (which was apparently exclusive to Europe since I don't recall any of my US tapes having it), even back then it seemed clunky and unrefined - probably because it actually was considering computer graphics weren't as advanced as they are nowadays. The one with Mickey as Sorcerer's Apprentice (the one for Walt Disney Home Video) was even uglier.
Trailers, on the other hand, were the best part of Disney videos (well, apart from the movies themselves). I could literally sit all day watching them.

Yes, US had this one:

or this one:

...but it was the same thing: A home video release.

I remember when I was little, I used to throw away my VHS cases. I thought they were unnecessary since the cassettes were so big, anyway. I actually got a spanking for throwing away the clamshell to Kiki's Delivery Service.
Not that this story had anything to do with the intro posted here, but this thread reminded me of it.

In the early 90s Germany had that, too. Later we got a variation of the UK intro but much longer, with an voice-over and the following text:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=szbssw-lSH8
"Dear video friends, welcome in the wonderful world of Walt Disney. Our video films are characterized by being for the whole family, being fun, inspiring the imagination and conveying important ethical values. We recommend, that your children only watch programs which are dedicated for their age. Therefore we would like to ask you to pay attention to the rating of the "Freiwillige Selbstkontrolle der Filmwirtschaft (FSK), which is judging the passing of a film for a defined age group. It would be ideal, if you'll experience the film together with your children. Disney wish you much pleasure in doing so."
I know still all the lines and I kinda miss those VHS times, because back then I didn't care for things like AQ/ VQ/ OAR or bonus features and was much easier satisfied. On the other hand I really appreciate the possibilities and high qualitiy of Blu-rays, because you finally notice all the details and beauty of the animation. I enjoy even classics I didn't like before only because of the art!

This first one is the one I like best, thus it is the greatest.

Also two not to be forgotten that came before all of those, similar to each other aside from the font:SpringHeelJack wrote:This first one is the one I like best, thus it is the greatest.

The logo on my original Disney videos I had from when I was a baby is still my absolute favourite. This one:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UXCkH-kBHro - nothing has ever felt more magical then this original intro.

Haha, I feel so unobservant! I grew up with both of these and never realized they were different! In my humble opinion, these are 1000% better than the UK one.DC Fan wrote:Yes, US had this one:

Also. Clamshells suck. For my shelving units I put my movies on, you just need one clamshell to limit where you can put that genre of movie. Which of course is why I aim to upgrade any of them I can.

That's right, it really hasn't changed much. And hell, I can remember from before there was a Disney Vault, when the films were slowly being introduced to VHS (and Beta!) for the first time.Sotiris wrote:But back then there still was the 'Disney Vault' and limited, collector's edition VHS tapes with unique packaging, lithographs, extra tape with bonus features and other goodies.
