I see fit to elaborate on my last comment.
Banning fanart and fan fiction would do nothing to stop piracy and would unfairly penalise creative fans. What's the harm if they are not profiting from their work? I don't have the talent for fanart and I don't care for fan fiction but I respect them. Piracy they aren't. This act would be akin to stabbing a leech

Basically, SOPA would limit freedom of speech because anyone using the internet would be penalized for using anything that has a copyright attached to it in any form. For example, Disney could make a lawsuit against UltimateDisney.com for using Disney in it's title.bradhig wrote:Why would SOPA limit free speech. All know is that it's supposed to stop piracy.
Fanfiction using any pre-existing character would be illegal, anyone's drawings of the Disney Princesses would be illegal, if I sang a pop song from Rihanna and posted it on youtube it would be illegal, if I mentioned a movie or song in my facebook status it'd be illegal, and so on.
It would also give the government the power to control what we see and what we do on the internet. Similar to modern Television, we only see what the government wants us to see. It would lead to all blogs, forums, and any other online outlet for our expression of opinion or where we can comment would be at risk.
In the end it's not just the raping of our freedom of speech, it's literally taking away our abilities to be ourselves on the interenet. It's taking away any freedom we have on the internet completely.
Simply put, SOPA and PIPA = Internet Armageddon.
As far as the "banning fanart" nonsense. I have never been forced to read or even come close to reading any fanart. Therefore, I cannot imagine why anyone would feel so opposed to them. If you read a bad one, that's your own damn fault. It's like blaming McDonalds for making you fat because you chose to eat it.

here's some more hopeful good news: http://currenttechnews.com/news/sopa-pr ... y-122-now/
Although Pipa doesn't seems to be changing congress' opinions.
This also shows that most of opposers from the beginning are young while the old fucks knows shit about the internet and how it works as stated in that article.
Valentine, I Hate bad character pairing too, but that mean shit in this discussion about SOPA. Rather than worry about that, worry more about decision of Congress trying censor internet as a whole.

GREAT! And because it's posted on UD, that means UD condones piracy, and the servers will be seized!ajmrowland wrote:careful! 30 second clip may be piracy.
Why, don't you realize seeing that clip made hundreds of UD visitors not buy the latest Spongebob DVD, if they hadn't seen that clip, they would have all bought the DVD immediately!!
I'm done. I'm not going to buy ANY MORE DVDs or CDs until the entertainment industry gets their heads out of their donkeys!

Too late for people in US. They already signed it back in OCT 2011. Now it's Europe turn to sign it.Maerj wrote:SOPA and PIPA are done. Yeah!
