"Now then... we've got a bit of interesting release news leaking from retail sources today. Wal-Mart has just listed Sony's long-awaited Monty Python and the Holy Grail for 35th Anniversary Edition release on Blu-ray Disc on 3/20! The SRP is listed as $19.99. One would expect an official announcement from Sony soon. It's available for pre-order on Amazon as well, so no worries that it's exclusive."

Official announcement!:

http://www.blu-ray.com/news/?id=7994

"In March, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will release the 35th Anniversary Edition of Monty Python and the Holy Grail on Blu-ray. This classic comedy filters King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table's epic search for the Holy Grail through the absurdist sensibilities of the Monty Python's Flying Circus troupe.

Far from a traditional hero's journey, the quest - as depicted in the film - shows Arthur (Graham Chapman, Monty Python's Life of Brian) beset at all turns by dangers such as cow-catapulting Frenchmen, the dreaded Knights who say Ni, the Killer Rabbit of Caerbannog, and the beyond-tenacious Black Knight.

Sony's Blu-ray/UltraViolet Digital Copy combo pack presents the film in its 1.66:1 original aspect ratio with a 5.1 Dolby TrueHD audio track. The disc also contains a number of bonus supplements, including:

Commentaries by Terry Gilliam & Terry Jones, plus general complaints and back-biting by John Cleese, Eric Idle & Michael Palin
Join Michael Palin and Terry Jones in their special documentary The Quest For The Holy Grail Locations
Monty Python And The Holy Grail In Lego! feature
Japanese version
How To Use Your Coconuts (An Educational Film) feature
BBC Film Night feature
Terry Gilliam introduces his lost animation reel
Terry Jones introduces the outtakes
Meanwhile, King Arthur & Sir Bedevere... feature
Elephant & Castle feature
Run Away! feature
The Tale of Sir Robin feature
The Tale of Sir Lancelot feature
Three Mindless Sing-Alongs feature

Also, the film will come to the UK too:

Get those Holy Hand Grenades ready... 8)

It's funny, we got a lot of white rabbits running around our worksite and I'm always saying "Someone get me a Holy Hand Grenade..."

Aren't these the same features from the dvd? How about some new features? I already own TWO copies of the Special Edition DVD, so I do not want to look like a nut triple dipping.

"In news today, remember how details leaked out of Sony a couple weeks ago that they were about to release Monty Python and the Holy Grail on Blu-ray Disc, but then they said that some of the details were wrong, and to watch for an official announce soon? Well, soon is today! The studio has just officially set the title for release on Blu-ray/UltraViolet on 3/6 (SRP $19.99). The only difference from what we reported back then is that this is not a 35th anniversary edition. It looks like the extras we posted back on 1/6 were exactly right, as the list includes audio commentaries by Terry Gilliam and Terry Jones (plus "General Complaints and Back-Biting by John Cleese, Eric Idle and Michael Palin"), The Quest for the Holy Grail Locations documentary (featuring Palin and Jones), the Japanese version, the LEGO version, a cast directory photo gallery, 3 "Mindless Sing-Alongs", the How to Use Your Coconuts (An Educational Film) short, 8 featurettes (BBC Film Night, Meanwhile, King Arthur & Sir Bedevere..., Elephant & Castle, Run Away!, The Tale of Sir Robin, The Tale of Sir Lancelot and Henry 4th) and Blu-ray credits. But that's not all: According to Sony's official press release, exclusive to the Blu-ray will be the The Holy Book of Days Second Screen Experience, Lost Animations with introduction by Terry Gilliam and Outtakes & Extended Scenes with introduction by Terry Jones. The film will also be remastered for high-definition in quality never before available. The Holy Book of Days is accessed via an iPad app that costs $4.99 in the Apple store, but for a limited time Sony will offer a $5 rebate for those who purchase the BD and the app together. Android users are apparently out of luck."
