Rank the princesses in terms of popularity
Rank the princesses in terms of popularity
I would say that Ariel, Belle and Cinderella are the three most popular. Rapunzel and Tiana are also pretty popular but they are the newest so it seems fit that they would be. Aurora and Jasmine seem to get overshadowed by Tiana and Rapunzel these days but they are still popular atleast I would assume. Mulan is popular but she doesn't appear on the merchandise as much as the others. Snow White and Pocahontas are probably the least popular. So I would say roughly:
Ariel
Cinderella
Belle
Rapunzel
Tiana
Aurora
Jasmine
Mulan
Snow White
Pocahontas
What do you all think?
Ariel
Cinderella
Belle
Rapunzel
Tiana
Aurora
Jasmine
Mulan
Snow White
Pocahontas
What do you all think?

Re: Rank the princesses in terms of popularity
I mostly agree with you, although I would rank Aurora higher than Tiana because I think hers is one of the most popular dresses (or at least, I see it much more frequently on merchandise and in Disney parks than Tiana's).
I think it would be more fun to rank the princesses based on quality rather than popularity; therefore, here's the princesses listed from best to worst:
Ariel
Rapunzel
Mulan
Belle
Snow White
Jasmine
Cinderella
Tiana
Aurora
Pocahontas

This is bit more accurate from my perspective.

Why is everyone ranking Snow White so low? I feel like I see her a whole lot more often on merchandise than Aurora, Mulan and Jasmine. I think I've read somewhere about how Ariel has become the most popular over the past few years, but I feel like it's hard to find any picture of more than one princess without one of them being Cinderella. My guess would be this...
Cinderella
Ariel
Belle
Rapunzel
Tiana
Snow White
Aurora
Jasmine
Mulan
Pocahontas
Cinderella
Ariel
Belle
Rapunzel
Tiana
Snow White
Aurora
Jasmine
Mulan
Pocahontas

not so much hate as in that she's boring to people. And her sex appeal is isn't as eye-catching as others are.

Re: Rank the princesses in terms of popularity
Unfortunately, I would guess Mulan and Pocahontas are the least popular because they don't have pretty, glitsy dresses.
Tiana would similarly be dull to little girls, but at least she has the dress.
Notice these 3 are also the strongest characters as well. Sad.

Listening to most often lately:

Mulan has a dress. It's just in Asian style, not those poofy shitty ones.Disney's Divinity wrote:Unfortunately, I would guess Mulan and Pocahontas are the least popular because they don't have pretty, glitsy dresses.![]()

I think I said this before but Disney's main marketing demographic are young white people of the rich to middle class families(this doesn't just limit to Disney princesses but Disney as a whole). This is why the white characters such as Aurora, Ariel, Cinderella, Rapunzel, Belle are on the near top of the popularity list while the minorities characters such a Mulan, Pocahontas, Jasmine, Tiana etc are in much lower list in terms of favoritism.
It's not that hard to figure out.

From what I've seen by people I know, general public, and what has been advertised, here's what I think:
These three are definitely top three:
Cinderella
Ariel
Belle
These next three are quite popular. A LOT of girls, especially black and Indian girls, love Jasmine. At least that's what I've noticed, but Disney doesn't market her as much. Tiana is always highlighted in parades and dolls. Same with Rapunzel since she's the newest.
Rapunzel/Tiana (I think this is equal)
Jasmine
Alot of girls love Mulan even though she isn't a princess. They love how heroic she is. By the general public, Aurora isn't really remembered. Only a few have seen her film, but she does have devoted fans. As for Snow White, the truth is that most cannot stand her.
Mulan
Aurora
Snow White
Last but not least is Pocahontas. Truthfully, the general public don't really remember her. I know several people who have said she looks like a man and complain how boney she is.
Again, this list is composed from what I've seen, heard, and noticed.

I have a friend who teaches kindergarten and she has a student whose mother RENAMED her legally Princess Tiana. So my friend has a kid in her class named Princess Tiana Brown. So I guess that makes her pretty popular as a princess. I don't know many kids whose names are Snow White, Cinderella or Pocahontas. Wait, I DID know a Bingo lady named Cinderella Jones whose mother loved the story of Cinderella and named her daughter that, but she's been dead awhile now. And in 1977 there was a pop song called Ariel about a Jewish girl in a peasant blouse. It was by Dean Friedman. Belle is a very popular name now. Never met an Aurora or a Mulan, though.

I used to work at the Disney Store in the King of Prussia Mall outside of Philiadelphia. There was a regular customer who had 3 children and one on the way. She LOVED the princesses and came in at least once a week to buy something Princess related. Her daughters were named Aurora, Ariel, and Jasmine though. The baby she was pregnant with didn't have a solid name yet, but she was expecting another girl. She had heard about Princess in the frog being in production (this was in 2008), and I said something about the new princess being named Maddy since that was originally her name. I hope she didn't name her that before they changed her name to Tiana!
