I actually did buy it, but it hasn't arrived at my house yet. I bought it for 35 bucks. I really hope its as good as everyone here says it is.FantasiaMan wrote:For those who don't have it, I suggest you should buy it. It's a great addition to any Disney DVD collection.
What was your first Disney DVD and why did you pick it?

Well, I got screwed by bootlegs first so...
my first Disney bootlegs were Bambi and Cinderella. Thanks to the new Bambi disc, I can (and will) get that one replaced but Cinderella is too expensive (WAY outta my price range). Thankfully, the movie disc looks *okay* on my computer's DVD-ROM.
Anyway, I got it because it seemed cheap. (It was about $13 total and... "new.") I just looked around on YouTube and... you know what? I can't find a video showing how you can tell a Disney DVD is a bootleg or not. Well, someone has to- guess it's up to me.

Counting the animated classics only, my first Disney DVD (and first Blu-ray in general) was The Princess and the Frog in May 2010.
After many years of not really being interested, I got back into Disney animation in 2009/2010 and started buying all of the classics that I didn't already own from my local thriftstore (on VHS for $1 each
). I missed The Princess and the Frog in theaters and decided to buy the Blu-ray/DVD combo pack so I could watch the DVD and have the Blu-ray for the future. Needless to say, that first Blu-ray sparked the purchase of an HDTV, PS3, and eventually 43 additional Blu-ray titles, most of them animated films.

Mine was Fantasia back in 2003. I had gotten my first DVD Player as a Christmas present in 2002. The Fantasia DVD been out of print already but I happened to find a copy for $24.99 at Circuit City (Remember that store?) So I picked it up because I didn't want to miss it, though I already owned all the Disney classics, including Fantasia, on VHS. After that, I started upgrading all the classics to DVD. As better DVD releases started coming out with time, I upgraded those too. Now I'm upgrading them to Blue Ray as well. My first Disney Blue Ray was Sleeping Beauty. I got my first Blue Ray player a several months after that when the price of them fell low enough (I paid $150.00 for it, compared to $400 when it first came out!). So, I now own all the classics both on VHS and DVD, and most of the Disney Blue Ray releases so far (We're talking WDAS Classic Cannon films here).

My first Disney DVD was the Limited Issue of The Little Mermaid, which I picked up at Disc Replay for $15 back in 2000. Why? Because I love that movie.
I got most of my early DAC DVD's used at that store for $12-$15 (oh, how I miss that place!) since I didn't want to pay $35 just to upgrade any of the films I already had on VHS (which was a pretty extensive collection at the time). I was willing to pay more for new, special editions of more current releases, like A Bug's Life. I eventually stopped buying used altogether as I mostly kept up with buying whatever was currently being released, since I realized that release day prices are usually much better than used prices once they're out of print.
I started buying Blu-rays upon the release of The Princess and the Frog. We eventually got a nice flat screen last year, and the the Blu-rays are simply gorgeous on it (DVD's are hit or miss but usually pretty decent).

If we're talking about the Animated classics and sequels,
my first purchase was The Little Mermaid in 2006. It was the first movie I saw in theatres and I just had to own it on DVD. I also wanted to buy Snow White in 2001 and Beauty in 2002 and Lady in 2006, but always felt embarrassed about buying Disney movies. When I finally bought The Little Mermaid (and its sequel), I felt really good about it and glad.
In 2007 I only bought The Fox And The Hound and in 2008 Sleeping Beauty. After I bought Snow White in 2009, I started collecting all the others during the last two years.

It was either one of two titles below (I honestly do not remember which one):
1.Mickey's Magical Christmas: Snowed in at the House of Mouse - I have long since sold this title for unknown reasons. It was just a collection of Holiday-themed shorts (some may have even been edited)
or
2.Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs: Platinum Edition - It should be fitting that the first Disney Animated Classic would be the first Disney title I buy on DVD. The features back then were so overwhelming.
I do remember that the first non-Disney DVD (and overall first DVD) I bought was Big Daddy (that comedy with Adam Sandler. I have since disowned it though). This was back in March of 2001. Both Disney titles above were also purchased the same year, just in the winter (I was 13 then, I believe).

I'm quite positive that the first one I ever bought was the Alice in Wonderland (The Masterpiece Edition)
Back when I first started collecting the DAC's I generally followed the rule of buying DAC's that I did not already own on VHS. To me those took priority. Now, years later, I own almost all of the DAC's but there's no way I can recall the order I bought them in aside from knowing the Lion King and Beauty and the Beast were the most recent.

I go, by myself, to women´s clothes stores to look and/or buy for my female friends and I don´t feel ashamed becuase of it. In fact, when an employee comes out to help me she tends to look impressed by it.
Plus, I HAVE to like animation and stuff cause I study graphic desgin. So, no problems for me looking and/or buying animated stuff.
