I manage to get Beauty and the Beast, along with Enchanted Christmas, Bambi, but I have yet to get Bambi 2. Luckily, I still have time.

This is silly seeing has how the Vault will be no more as soon as they launch Disney Studio All Access

This is kind of a bigger deal then it has ever been as there is a very good possibility this is the last time either of these titles will be available via a physical format. For folks that don't care abut such things, it doesn't mean much, but for the rest of us that want to actually own our movie and not "rent" digital bits of nothingness, this could be a very sad moment.

I'm definitely getting Bambi and am thinking about getting Beauty and the Beast (yes, I still dislike the movie but I'm still a huge Disney fan).

But... why the hell would anyone want the sequels?

I mean, if there are any members of this board younger than 10, I don't really want to know about it. And even then, I can't believe anyone over 5 would watch sequels to Bambi and Beauty and the Beast. Except as a morbid curiosity to know exactly how bad they are.

milojthatch - You're right that it could be the last time on a physical format, which would be a real bummer. But I read somewhere that even once All Access launches, you will get a copy in EVERY format. So, even if you mainly use All Access, you'll still get a blu-ray. So maybe physical copies won't disappear as quickly as some people think.

Super Aurora - Once All Access Launches, you will only buy a movie once, and you will own it in all formats, basically forever. So once it's gets remastered or 3dified or whatever, from my understanding it will be an upgrade, as opposed to re-buying the movie. I already have both Blu-Rays of Bambi and Beauty and the Beast and I could give two craps less about the sequels (or cheapquels).

I see the sequels are getting flack, as always. I keep hearing, er, reading, including on blu-Ray.com forums, that the BatB Enchanted Christmas is pretty good. I am thinking of picking that one up, along with BatB 3D (already have the regular Diamond Edition)

I still don't get why Belle's Magical World is considered a "sequel". I haven't watched it in some time, but wasn't it just a collection of shorts? Anyway, I have the first DVD release, so I am not concerned with getting the rerelease. Then again, it has an episode of Sing Me a Story with Belle, doesn't it? That is kind of tempting to get just to have live-action Belle footage.

Anyway, as I said, it is just a collection of short stories to me, so I don't have big issue with it and am happy to get more stories with characters I love. As for Enchanted Christmas, again, this is as much a Christmas Special as it is a sequel. So, even for folks who don't like sequels, ones that like Christmas specials may have an interest in it. I have always seen it not as a "sequel", but as "The Beauty and the Beast Christmas Special". I grew up with the Christmas specials of the 80's. They were cheesy, sometimes crappy (though even the most sales motivated ones were not as bad as the recent Elf on the Shelf special; sheesh, that was insulting), but I still like to watch then today for the nostalgia of it and am easier to warm up to new ones today because of it. I don't expect feature quality anything from them, and Beauty and the Beast the Enchanted Christmas has some quite well-done parts for direct to video, just as it has some really cheap ones (the different animation studios working on it, I guess, which was one of the big mistakes of those direct to video features; some of their studios were worthy of working on direct to video features, some did not deserve the Disney name). I bought this one on blu recently, but I haven't watched it yet, so it's been a while since I've seen it. Though, I noticed it was on TV this morning, and I caught the bit where they were meeting Angelique. If I had never seen the movie before, I'd think, "Man, this is a high quality little Christmas movie," because that was a well done scene (at least the few minutes I saw of it). Anyway, I enjoy it, I look forward to watching it next week if I can, and I'm glad I got the blu-ray. I suppose Magical World isn't really Blu-Ray worthy, but I probably would have rebought that one too if it had been released on Blu-Ray. I'm surprised Disney is still doing standard def ONLY releases.

However, I suspect Prep and Landing will get a blu release next year coupled with the newer special (I'm holding out for that, in fact), and I wonder if maybe we will eventually see Belle's Magical World on a blu-ray double feature with that Princess Enchanted Tales movie that came out a while back (I forget the title). I think those would be a logical pair up. Anyway, yeah, I know those two are merchandise movies if anything. But, if you can enjoy a short little kids' book about a Disney princess just to get a new story about her, or if one can enjoy a show like the Little Mermaid the animated series, which I loved, then I don't see what the problem is with new shorts about the characters. Yeah, it ticks me off when they do a bad job on a true sequel (I don't think all of them were bad, and some were a mixed bag, which may be the most annoying thing of all), but some little shorts, they're just nice revisits with the characters we love. Honestly, it's what a lot of people wanted when they tuned in to House of Mouse. Not just recycled Mickey, Donald, and Goofy shorts, but shorts about various other Disney characters, even from the features. It's a treat for me to see these characters again, though, of course, I would like to see them in higher quality productions, but it's not like these in particular were on the big screen or true sequels or anything. So, I just feel like these are being treated too harshly, largely because they are viewed as "the Beauty and the Beast" sequels. I never saw them that way. To me, they are a bunch of shorts and a Christmas special. Anyway, that's all I have to say about that.

BatB enchanted christmas is among the more insulting Disney sequels actually. Or rather, midquels. Belle is changed from a strong woman into a pathetic girl, desperate to 'change' the Beast.

I am truly offended by it, because it goes against everything the original film stands for.

I have to disagree. I haven't seen it in a while, like I said, but as I recall, she is constantly standing up to the Beast, defying his insistence that there be no Christmas celebration in the castle. She may get emotional now and then, but she does in the film too, it is just being realistic. A 2-dimensional "strong women" character should be just as offensive as a prissy one. Personally, I found she is kept well in character from the film.

Not sure what you mean about it going against whatever the original film stood for, unless you just meant the "strong woman" stuff. However, I will say this. I still feel Beauty and the Beast is Disney's best animated feature, yet that doesn't mean I totally agree with the moral logic of any version of Beauty and the Beast. I mean, what is is seen as representing, anyway. People always say the story is about seeing past appearances, but in most versions I have seen/heard, Beauty does not want the Beast until he is a prince. That is, at least, how all the versions I have seen and heard go. If the original is different, I either haven't heard it or don't recall it well.

As for the Disney version, they handle this a bit better. She does seem to come to love him... as a friend at least, while he is still the Beast. BUT, at the same time, it's still a story about a girl taking a jerk and "changing him" to a nice guy, which, from a nice guy standpoint, is a bit annoying. There are so many neglected nice guys, but so many women would prefer the (mostly impossible) challenge of reforming a "bad boy". This film encourages that, though at least Belle didn't get into this by choice, and at least she rejected Gaston, so points to her for those two issues. Now that I think about that, I guess that makes it less "offensive" to me.

Oh, back to Enchanted Christmas, if memory serves, one of the highlights of the film is that there is actually a flashback to the prince's pre-Beast days. The Christmas night he was transformed, in fact. Pretty cool and funny, except the bratty Prince has an unusually manly voice for an 11 yr old, ha.

And, does anyone else think he was cursed a bit harshly, considering he was only 11? Ha. Then again, I guess he had a lot of power, being a ruler and all. I think the boy prince in The Chipmunk Adventure might have deserved this curse more though, ha.

I think physical media will be around for awhile (At least I hope so.). There are still a lot of areas where people can't get broadband internet, and if they can its very slow (unable to stream HD, or decent SD quality).

The speeds required to stream Blu-ray quality movies are pretty high, and if ISPs get their way with bandwidth caps, that could easily "kill" digital streaming for a lot of people.

I actually liked the BatB and the Bambi sequels, they are some of the only DTV sequels I've enjoyed (the others being the Aladdin sequels, and Cinderella III haha). I've bought the Bambi II combo pack and Belle's Magical World, and Enchanted Christmas is on my wish list this year.

Speaking of the Disney Vault: I was really hoping since Fantasia/Fantasia 2000 was available for such a short amount of time that that meant Disney would be releasing both movies seperately in the near future. But it doesnt look like that will be happening anytime soon.

With all due respect, PatrickvD, Batb: TEC is not as bad as you claim it to be. I should know. I watched it twice recently.
