Micechat: Walt Disney Studios taking the "Walt" out of Disney.

And doing it to fit the screen is NOT a perfect excuse! Also, semaj, the way I see it now that you mention it, they're more than likely doing this just to spite Walt and his nephew, who fought to keep his uncle's memory/company alive!Semaj wrote:No surprise that after Roy E. died, the company is erasing his uncle's name from the studio.
BUT it was Walt who founded the studio! It would be just about as bad as taking his name out of Walt Disney World, which many, even Roy, knew was Walt's dream and Walt's dream alone. Maybe not alone, but you get the idea.enigmawing wrote:Maybe I could sorta understand if Walt had originally called the company "Walt Disney Pictures" once he ended the distribution deal with RKO, but he originally called it "Buena Vista."
It's just a case of streamlining so I don't see what the big deal is? Everyone already knows Disney as a brand name that symbolizes family entertainment and that's exactly what they're going for here.
Ub Iwerks was actually the one who created Mickey. But I agree with many here who believe Walt's name should not be taken out. To me, the removal of his name seems like a sad attempt to make the company "hip" with the times. It's like when they got rid of traditional animation just because 3D animation felt 'in'.disneyprincess11 wrote:he MADE Mickey.

Now, the guys at the company are being total jerks...
This. I think the official reason they've removed the name is silly, and even though this isn't an inherently bad thing, it just takes some of the humanity out of the company's name. It makes it sound like a brand rather than something more heartfelt and personal. Nonetheless, the new logo won't really affect my enjoyment of the movies it's put before.slave2moonlight wrote:Well, I don't think it's an outright crime, as some would imply, but I just think losing the "Walt" takes a really nice, human aspect out of it, and it certainly takes some of the nostalgia out of it.
If you want to get really technical, Hugh Harman influenced Iwerks in his design of Mickey quite a bit (via mice drawn in 1925 around a photo of Walt).magicalwands wrote:Ub Iwerks was actually the one who created Mickey.disneyprincess11 wrote:he MADE Mickey.
