Disney movies you loved as a kid but now not so much.
What are some Disney movies that you absolutley loved when you were a tike but now watching them you don't enjoy them as much. Or what movies did you not care for as a kid but now love?
the lion king. i watched that every day for months when it came out on video. now, while i appreciate the animation more, i dont enjoy watching it.
dinosaur i hated when it came out. i rented it once or twice on video and regretted it both times. then, came the time of the dvd and flat screen tvs. i rented it on dvd and fell in love with everything about it.

Pocahontas immediately comes to mind. I loved everything about it when it first came out. Now that I'm older, I have a hard time watching such a crappy movie (although the songs still hold up).
When I was younger, I hated Mulan. Now that I'm older, I can look past the weak soundtrack (songs, not score) and cliched teamwork ending to appreciate it as one of Disney's more mature offerings.

Bedknobs and Broomsticks comes to mind. The songs are still great and I like the animation sequences, but it's rather over-long and that third act with the Nazis just feels incredibly out-of-place after the cartoon hijinks we just went on.

The Jungle Book and Dumbo.
I used to love them both as kids, but now I don't find anything special about them. They're not bad movies, but they're nothing special.

Finally someone else who thinks the score is pretty weak! I'm not saying that the score is completely awful, but its not marvellous either. When I was younger, I hated Mulan. As with you, I didn't cared for "Mulan" when I was younger, because I never found the movie anything special. Now I like it more. But why did you hate it?

Good to see some other Dinosaur fans. While I did enjoy some parts of the movie when I saw it the first, I thought it could have been better. When I bought it on dvd, I learned to love it and I still do, despite its flaws.dinosaur i hated when it came out. i rented it once or twice on video and regretted it both times. then, came the time of the dvd and flat screen tvs. i rented it on dvd and fell in love with everything about it.

Umm...what? You misread my post. I said the songs are weak (excluding maybe Reflection) and that the Jerry Goldsmith score is fantastic. You're still alone in hating the score.DisneyFan09 wrote:Finally someone else who thinks the score is pretty weak! I'm not saying that the score is completely awful, but its not marvellous either.

A Disney film I've lost my liking for: I loved The Little Mermaid as a child, but when I saw it after quite a while at seventeen, I decided that it's animation was sloppy at points, and that it's Heroine was a complete sap.
A Disney film that's grown on me: I saw Tarzan at a friend's house when I was eleven, and I considered it to be boring, but when I revisited it about two years ago, I found it to be very emotionally resonant.

The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast and Aladdin all have their share of sloppy animation at certain points, but they did get gradually more polished until The Lion King which I consider 99% polished.Disney Geek wrote:A Disney film I've lost my liking for: I loved The Little Mermaid as a child, but when I saw it after quite a while at seventeen, I decided that it's animation was sloppy at points, and that it's Heroine was a complete sap.
Personally, I would take TLM over the bland-looking and overly sterile Mulan at any time. I love the occasionally rough edges of Mermaid and Beauty&Beast.

I used to dislike Mulan passionately, but it's grown on me. Also, I used to find Dumbo dull and Fantasia boring, but now I love them and think they're not just the greatest Disney films of all time, but also I think are in the top ten greatest movies ever made. There isn't really any Disney movie which I once loved but now hate, but I don't like Tarzan as much as I used to.

I guess Mermaid wasn't the only DAC of the time to have sloppy animation, but I noticed it more because there weren't strong characters IMHO.

As for me: I didn't particularly care about The Rescuers when I was a kid. And now look at me!

My love for Robin Hood has definitly cooled down. Even though I still think it's one of Disney's funniest, I now realize as a whole (animation, character design, music, songs, plot) it's one of its weakest.
