My Fair Lady on Blu-Ray November 15th!

Post by UmbrellaFish »

Blu-Ray.com wrote:In an early announcement to retailers, Paramount Pictures has revealed that it will release on Blu-ray George Cukor's My Fair Lady (1964), starring Audrey Hepburn, Rex Harrison, and Stanley Holloway, and Arthur Penn's Little Big Man (1970), starring Dustin Hoffman, Faye Dunaway, and Martin Balsam. Exact technical specs and region coding status for these releases are unknown at the moment. Street date is November 8th.

My Fair Lady

Audrey Hepburn has never been more "loverly" than in this breathtaking musical extravaganza that won 8 Academy Awards in 1964, including Best Picture. In this beloved adaptation of the Broadway stage hit, Hepburn plays a sassy, working class London street vendor, whom an arrogant professor (Rex Harrison) attempts to turn into a sophisticated lady through proper schooling. But, when the humble flower girl blossoms into the toast of London's elite, her teacher may have a lesson or two to learn himself. Hepburn's performance, style, and sweet spirit have made My Fair Lady a timeless classic.

Hmm. That's surprisingly little advanced notice. I hope it doesn't compromise the disc in any way.

Extras will include audio commentary, vintage featurettes from 1963 and 1964, alternate Audrey Hepburn vocals, a gallery of poster art and lobby cards, Rex Harrision radio interview audio, trailers and more.

Looks like I'll be hanging on to the old two disc DVD...

I should really invest in a Blu-Ray player. I've missed all my favorite Blu-Ray releases because of it.

I don't know if its been mentioned on UD yet, but West Side Story is also receiving a blu-ray release this year.

Even if you haven't gotten a player yet, it might be a good idea to start picking up a few Blu titles for the future. :) But I'm iffy on this release. It just seems odd that it was announced out of the blue like it was with little fanfare. I've heard that MFL would need significant work for it's Blu Debut, and this all seems a bit rushed. I think I'll wait for a few reviews to come out before I put any money down on this title.

Yea, I've thought of that. But, it would suck to be constantly looking at the blu ray discs on the shelf knowing you wouldn't be able to watch it or enjoy the bonus features. Haha.

Aside from Mary Poppins, are all the "major" 60's movie musicals out on Blu-Ray? Has Oliver! been released?

Oliver! hasn't been released yet, nor has Funny Girl. I can't think of any other 60's musicals not on Blu yet that aren't infamous. ;)

Ok, thank you! :) With Funny Girl possibly coming to Broadway in the spring for a revival, a Blu Ray release shouldn't be too long now. Then again, that doesn't always correlate.
