The Byrd's version of the song is nice, too, but theirs is really a mainstream pop song, whereas Dylan's is a genuine folk song.

I've been listening to Flo's new album all day (Ceremonials). Favorites include: Shake It Out, What the Water Gave Me, Never Let Me Go, Breaking Down, No Light, No Light, Heartlines, All This in Heaven Too and Strangeness and Charm. But, really, all of the songs are amazing, even the demo for WTWGM.

^ I just released Florence + the Machine has a new album. That was quick. I heard one of the new songs yesterday and it was pretty of course. I recognized her voice instantly haha. I gotta get my hands on this one

I slightly prefer the version by the Byrds, because the increased liveliness (as well as the more upbeat music) is more appealing to me.

Yes, you should definitely pick it up! Her previous album (Lungs) was great, but Ceremonials is nearly perfect. There are a few songs that I don't like as much as the ones I previously listed, but they are all really fantastic.

I meant that too. Some people have information about an artist's personal life and judge them positively for it. The music gets to mean more to them because of it. I meant what you're saying too. For myself, I prefer to try to hear all music the same way: do I think it's right for the genre? My disapproving take on Dylan is because I don't think his music works as rock or pop. It doesn't stir my soul nor effectively soothe it. Nor does it make me physically want to dance or move. But, I'm more than willing to see it as something like blues since I have no experience in that genre.

Same here. If I can't keep up with all of them, I think it's best to forget the personal meaning the artist might have. I mean, there's no reason to think they could be making a sad song because people (including listeners) feel sad. Or a dark song because we all need to express our darker or evil sides.

That's the point.

I don't care for it either. I only like the last link in that row which is one of only a few songs that I like by that band. But, I'm trying to recommend music to someone who likes 3 Doors Down. A task for which degrading oneself is unavoidable. From Matchbox 20 to Lit to Fuel, these bands all just blended into one gigantic ball of bland. Although, I wasn't paying attention to grunge when it was going on. So, I always assumed there was a basic cut-off for grunge where bands such as Soul Asylum and Collective Soul became Smash Mouth and Blink 182. If not those bands, than definitely Dave Matthews Band, Counting Crows, The Spin Doctors, Del Amitri, Hootie and the Blowfish, The Gin Blossoms, Dishwalla, The Proclaimers, The Rembrandts, Deep Blue Something, and The Goo Goo Dolls weren't grunge. Right? And they were a constant throughout the early and prime years of Alice in Chains, Silverchair, Stone Temple Pilots, Soundgarden, and whatever subgenre was represented by Gravity Kills and Stabbing Westward. So I don't think whatever happened with Matchbox 20 (poster-band for bland) happened after grunge.

Right now I queued up Everclear - "Santa Monica" with no plans to jump to anything else, but with all this talk of bland 90's rock making me feel kinda mucky, I think I might have to plunge into some new-millennium dance / club music just to regain composure.
