"The Hunchback Of Notre Dame" Chocolate Bar!

Post by Cheshire_Cat »

Does anybody remember this? I vaguely remember buying one of these from an electronic store; but I was, like, five years old at the time so my memory is fuzzy. Maybe somebody else might have clearer memories of this?

Thanks for posting! I really remember this bar, the Pocahontas bars, and there was even a Toy Story bar. Here's a commercial for the HB Bar:

I remember they made them for The Lion King too. :) I don't recall seeing any for the films beyond Hunchback. The chocolate for them was pretty soft, very similar to the modern Reese's Bar, but without the peanut butter of course. I don't have them anymore but used to have some of the wrappers saved.

I vaguely remember a commercial advertising something for HoND featuring somebody dressed in a jester's outfit (I think) sort of "swinging" on the rope of a bell and ringing it. I don't remember what exactly that commercial was advertising.

Wow, I don't think I remember those; I wonder if that was around the time they started phasing them out.

Nestle used to release special chocolates for new Disney films here in the UK too. I remember that the Pocahontas and Toy Story chocolates were banana flavoured and tasted disgusting and the chocolate they brought out for the live-action 101 Dalmatians film was white chocolate with pieces of cola-flavoured candy inside. I'm not sure whether they brought out the same ones in America but instead of chocolate bars, for The Hunchback of Notre Dame and Hercules Nestle released chocolate eggs with little figures inside; they also brought out a Robin Hood series for some reason

Yup, I remember those.

While we are on the subject, here is a video from an ice cream treat (that I personally remember) promoting the release of Pocahontas (since I could not find an image of it)

Also, here is a wrapper from the 1995 promotion for the release of Toy Story That I found from a candy wrapper archive. I do not really remember it (I remember there being sweettart type candies)

Yep, those were delicious. I used to try and make mine last as long as possible. Summers in the mid-90s were AWESOME.

They also had those balls that if I remember right were made out of chocolate and inside was a Disney themed toy. Dang if I can remember what they were called now.

Yeah, they started out containing toys but were withdrawn from the market due to the Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act of 1938. This act prohibits the embedding of non-food items completely enclosed inside food items. When Wonder Balls returned to the market, they side-stepped this by enclosing candy inside instead of toys.

It's a very similar concept to the Kinder Egg, which is not legally available in the US.

Silly law if you ask me but I've been so used to Kinder that the idea of it not being legal shocked me when I first found out.

But why aren't Kinder Eggs legally available in the US? :?
