The "What you are proud of/Thankful for" Thread
There's a lot of negativity in this world and many don't get to think about all the good things about themselves and what they are proud of and thankful for in life.
-So here's the task, write some things you are proud of and/or thankful for. Discuss it with each other if you chose.
-Then, if you're feeling down and like the world if crashing down around you, come back to this thread and remind yourself what you're proud of/thankful for and see there were people here to share it with.
I'll start:
I'm proud of being a HS and College graduate having worked through and still working through the challenges of Autism. I'm proud and thankful to have gotten through the bullying of my late elementary/middle school/early HS years as a result of my social awkwardness. I'm proud to have had a good support system (family, teachers, principals) to get me through those rough times and to enjoy the good times with me. I'm proud to say that I'm 'paying it forward' by becoming a teacher and an advocate for anti-bullying campaigns in schools.

I'm thankful for my dog, Oliver. It's been a rough year for me, and it's nice to know that he's always there for me and he always loves me!
I'm grateful that I got into grad school, even though it's really hard and my heart isn't in it as much as I would like. But knowing that they thought that I was good enough makes me proud.
I'm grateful for my friends...I live far away from most of them now, but it's nice to know that they're there for me when I need them.
I'm grateful for Disney...when I'm feeling down, it (whether the movies or music or even UD) is always there for me!

I almost lost my home a few years back, so I'll always be thankful to have a roof over my head. I once felt trapped in a bad relationship, so I'll always be thankful that Rey wedged his way into my life. I'm thankful for my two little buddies Koji and Cinder, even if Cinder's going through the terrible puppy phase right now, lol. I'm also thankful I finally cared enough to actually start taking care of myself a few years back.
Oh, and I'm thankful for chocolate. Can't forget that.

Without a job, I'm not thankful for anything right now.
And I'm not thankful for HR reps/recruiters taking their damn time to get back to me. Taking a week to return a call? Really?
No wonder the world is so screwed-up right now. And I don't like people that don't answer their friggin emails. Also, getting a message back a month later that I wasn't accepted for an interview is unacceptable as well.
Sorry to go negative with my post.

I'm grateful that I have my health. Both my grandmother and some forum members have made me realize how vitally important it is to be healthy.
I'm grateful to have my job. It's not a job I want to work at for more than a few months and I hope I don't get stuck there, as it's really below my education level, but it's better than having no job at all. It's nice to make money and not be unemployed anymore. I'll keep applying to jobs I really want, but in the meantime, I just enjoy the comapny of my co-workers which make the days go by easier.
I'm grateful to have a friend with whom I can share my worries and pleasures.
I'm grateful to have made contact with a fantastic girl, even if it may not lead to where I want it to lead...
And I'm very grateful for Bob. Seriously. His music consoles, eases, lifts up or just brings me to tears --of joy or of sorrow.

I feel like I should post this tomorrow, since I'll know by then how some job interviews and auditions went, but here goes.
I'm grateful for wonderful friends, with whom I've shared many good times with. I never have any doubts that they'll be there to listen to me ramble on about anything and everything.
I'm grateful for my health. I've never even been in a hospital (for me) ince the day I was born, and I'm very thankful of that, because I could not handle a serious illness.
I'm grateful for my family, and all the things they do for me. I'm grateful that my parents are both hardworking, and are able to provide a nice life for my sister and myself.
I'm grateful for the little things that make me happy throughout the day. Even a small comment or remark can have huge effects on me.
I'm grateful for my talents, and those who have helped me hone them. I wouldn't have been able to accomplish what I have without them.
And finally, I'm grateful for music.

I am thankful I made it through High School.
I am grateful i am alive and my family's okay.
I am thankful for the Internet and message boards like this.
Not much else to be thankful for right now since I got laid off from my job in May (lousy Economy) and I have Asthma and not many friends due to my High-Functioning Autism making it impossible to talk to others properly.

I'm grateful that my mother, had successful open heart surgery this morning. She is 82 & recently suffered a major heart attatck requiring an aortic valve replacement. She is a saint who I don't know how I'd live without.
I'm grateful to be still wheeling around 32 years after being paralyzed at age 25.
I'm grateful to be alive 10 months after being diagnosed with Mesothilioma. When I first was told of it I googled it & found that the consensus was that I had 4-10 months to live. After 10 rounds of chemo I fee like a million bucks, the tumors have shrunk a LOT. It is incurable but some people live for many years with it if they have the kind of success with chemo I've had.
I'm thankful to have lead a good Catholic, Christian life as I am sure I would not have had the blessings listed above without the power of the prayers of all of my friends and my belief. I am not by any means perfect but I try to do what is right.

15 gallon 7 pint blood donor as of 1-4-11. Done donating. Apparently having Cancer makes you kind of ineligible to donate.

I'm thankful for being the angriest person I know. That means other people don't have to be, they can be more positive.
I'm grateful for my bizarre sense of taste and my unique worldview.
I'm grateful for not being a robot, very seldomly agreeing with the "status quo."
DAMN am I grateful for Björk.
And horror films (the real ones, before the genre turned into the sad action-thriller torture-survival poser dumping ground it is today and has been for the last decade).
Obviously, I'm grateful for Disney and the nostalgic feeling they fill me with that sometimes literally provides me with the most happiness I get in my life.
I'm EXTREMELY grateful to everyone on YouTube who upload Disney shorts, TV specials, episodes of the various behind-the-scenes shows Disney've produced over the decades. (And to HELL with the corporate slime who take them down- it's their fault they're so hard to find or never make it onto DVD in the first place.)
I'm grateful when ibuprofen actually works.
I appreciate every intelligent, socially progressive thing I've ever heard someone on a message board say- especially UD (and in the future, I'm sure: DM = DisneyMania, because clearly our love for Disney and their nostalgia drug drives us to mania) given that it has become a true community and the one many of us call home (in so far as we share ourselves here / with each other).
I'm grateful for the d.i.y. spirit (only because no one else will do it for me
), in lieu of having to say I'm grateful for every single thing that allows us to get pics, videos, etc(.) up - on let's say, the internet - individually.
I'm grateful that I haven't lost any of my arms, legs, fingers, or toes. And to everyone who actually takes the time to read my extra-long posts. And to people who thank me for things.
I'm grateful for things like Halloween and the few people who still respect it for what it really stands for. (And boo to the people who cheapen it by using it as yet another night to get drunk or dress "alluringly" - only with cat ears or vampire bite marks on their neck - when they can do that any time of the year. And to the people who view it as childish or sinful.)
And, lastly (until I think of some more), I'm thankful for people who don't give up. I admire them for being stronger than I am.

I'm grateful for my pets, of course. Most of my cats have died the past few years, unfortunately, but I have a pet dog now that lights up my day. I would've never guessed I'd like a dog, but sometimes she's the only thing that makes me happy about coming home.
I'm grateful that I have the chance to attend college and get a BA in teaching English. That's my ticket out of here.
I'm grateful that I had a grandmother who loved me. I'm glad I have some good memories in spite of the rest of my family.
I'm grateful that I have a car that's not dead yet.
I'm grateful that I have God-given looks, even if I don't have my health. It's vain, I know, but when you can at least look good in the mirror then the day isn't as depressing as it could be. I don't know what I'd do without my hair!
More importantly, I'm grateful God gave me a mind to go with it.
I'm grateful that I have hope and love even if I don't always have anyone to share it with--and a dark sense of humor. Things would've been over a long time ago without the ability to cope and know that things can get better.
And I'm grateful UD isn't closing!
Although UD isn't the same as when I first came here, there are still a lot of people I like here that I would kind of miss talking to if the site closed.

I could list a great many things, but I'll list just these that pop into my head.
- I am grateful to have been able to learn French to a fluent level. I have had some wonderful experiences travelling and living in France.
- I am grateful to have been able to travel, and for the chance that I can make a few more journeys in the future.
- I am grateful to generally have escaped my hometown.
- I am grateful to be on a path where I feel happy after wandering around aimlessly for so long.
- I am grateful to have some wonderful friends, no matter how far apart they may be. My family deserve some kudos too.
- I am grateful to have a fully active imagination and a talent for visual arts and storytelling.
- I am grateful to not be starving/dying of a horrible disease/stuck in a war-torn country.

Good one! Especially to those who have posted former "Vault Disney" content like The Grand Opening of Walt Disney World, Mr. Boogedy, Child of Glass, Disneyland Showtime, Disney's Halloween Treat, An Adventure in Color, the list goes on, but kudos to those who taped all that stuff in the first place too!Lazario wrote:I'm EXTREMELY grateful to everyone on YouTube who upload Disney shorts, TV specials, episodes of the various behind-the-scenes shows Disney've produced over the decades. I hear that! As I have thankfully not lost my sense of hearing or sight either, or any sense for that matter.Lazario wrote:I'm grateful that I haven't lost any of my arms, legs, fingers, or toes.
I know what you mean, my favorite aspect of Halloween is the opportunity to be creative through decorating, costuming etc. and there's little creativity/fun for me in getting wasted while wearing black as a "costume".Lazario wrote:I'm grateful for things like Halloween and the few people who still respect it for what it really stands for. Very true for me too.Wonderlicious wrote:- I am grateful to not be starving/dying of a horrible disease/stuck in a war-torn country.
And of course I'm glad for UD not closing. As I am thankful for all the time others have taken for making this site/forum so enjoyable to me for the past 5 years.

So many things!
I'm thankful Jesus died for my sins and everything else he's done for me.
I'm thankful I've gotten this far in college.
I'm thankful I have a steady job.
I'm thankful I have the best dog I could hope for.
I'm thankful for my sister, the best friend ever.
I'm thankful for having grown so much personally and socially in the past couple of years.
I'm thankful I can write a decent essay and do well on tests. Things would be so much harder if I was one of those people who understand things fine, but don't do well on tests.
I'm thankful for my movies!!!
I'm thankful for my books (possibly even more).
I'm thankful I live close enough to the beach to visit it every once in a while.

I think about this crap every time I have a bad day and just how trivial it is in the big picture of my life:
-At least I don’t have a fatal or life altering disease
-At least I’m not physically or mentally disabled
-At least I had a normal childhood without hardship and full of love
-At least I have a job and can afford a comfortable lifestyle
-As much as our government sucks, there are far worst countries I could be stuck in
-At least I have no problems in the sack
Hell, my parents always tell me how hard their childhood was but I can’t imagine telling my kids that. I’ll be telling them about how fucking spoiled I was in the 90s, how awesome the cartoons used to be, how great Disney used to be, how it was a time of transition where kids were playing great games (Genesis, SNES, N64) and still going outside to play, how peaceful and booming the economy was. While I have become more jaded as the years go by, I can’t discount the massive amounts of good fortune I’ve had throughout my entire life and I consider myself VERY lucky (even though I still envy those with money).
