Bonus features being kept off Blu-ray for Blu-ray 3D now?

Post by The_Iceflash »

I'm not sure where this is best placed but if this thread would be better placed elsewhere I understand.

When Blu-ray went in competition with DVD, movie studios began the practice of stripping DVDs of their bonus features and only including them on the Blu-ray. Now this makes sense when there are bonus features that are simply incompatible with the DVD format. It's another issue when bonus features that were normally placed on the DVD format are no longer included. Many have frowned down on this tactic to woo people to adopt the Blu-ray format. Now at this point, when a large percent still hasn't adopted the format, there are now Blu-ray 3D exclusive bonus features kept off the regular Blu-ray!

It appears that this is happening with the upcoming Cars 2 release. Compare the versions on the chart here (provided it's correct) and tell me what you think:

What do you think of studios doing this with Blu-ray 3D now?

That is stupid, if that is what they are doing. So, only a dozen or so people will be able to watch all the special features?

I'm VERY mad at Disney Home Entertainment right now over this issue. To the point I am not planing on buying "Cars 2" when it comes out. It was a weak film anyway, so I'll live if it doesn't get picked up for a while, if ever.

What really gets me is that Blu-ray hasn't even full replaced DVD yet, and they are already pulling this stunt? I didn't like it when they did it to DVD and I like it even less now.

Unless the Blu Ray included with the 5 disc combo pack has the bonus features on its 2D Blu ray, in an effort to push the sales of the 3D combo Pack.

Although they have been including some special features on the 3D disc of the combo Packs too, not that intense extreme to Cars 2, which is a spit in the face to consumers and anyone who watches bonus features, unless it's wrong, though amazon has it's issues with info from time to time.

Anyway Mars Needs Moms 3D Combo Pack had some exclusive content on the Blu ray 3D Disc (though with that movie I think I speak for everyone here in saying big whoop regarding MNM)

Here's Mars Needs Moms 3d Combo pack link

http://www.amazon.com/Needs-Four-Disc-Blu-ray-Digital-Combo/dp/B004ZBA9P6/ref=sr_1_3?s=movies-tv&ie=UTF8&qid=1318466711&sr=1-3#postSPF

Here's what it says about MNM on Amazon regarding the 3D Exclusive

•Exclusive To Blu-ray 3D Disc: Alternate & Deleted Scenes

Ok, I know how they are doing it now.

The 2 Blu-ray releases:

1. 2 Disc Combo Pack

Blu-ray + DVD or DVD +Blu-ray

OR

2. 5 Disc Combo Pack

Blu-ray 3D + Blu-ray 2D + Blu-ray Bonus Disc + DVD + Digital Copy

So what they are doing is making the BD Bonus Feature Disc exclusive to the 3D combo pack. It's just like the Monsters, Inc, The Incredibles, etc Blu-ray combos except now the 3D Disc is also included. One cannot get the Bonus Blu-ray Disc w/o the Blu-ray 3D. This actually scares me when I think about how Finding Nemo's BD release is going to be with it getting a 3D theatrical release next year.

Meh, don't worry about. By then Blu-Ray won't exist and it will be part of Disney's Keychest...   :insert puking emoticon here:

I'm beginning to miss the days of Blu Ray VS HDDVD at times like these....or the complain which seems pettier now than it was than of the insert special edition fancy name here on DVD. Anyone wanna take bets of when (not if, but when, though If might be a small hope)they'll start doing so on Blu ray with crappy stuff on their BDs and such, though one could look at The Rocketeer Blu ray coming out with loads of bonus fea oh uuhhh oh...uh wait toodles :shifty:

Rather than complaining about it here, how about going on the Disney Movie Rewards Facebook page and posting comments there so other people can see what's going on.

I've posted there before, and had a fairly quick response from some of their reps.

Som new blu-Rays are really barebones - I expected more from this format. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 is another example, not too many bonus features - I know, there's an Ultimate Edition on the way...

Shoulda got the four disc set from Best Buy... I doubt that bonus Blu-ray from there will be on the future UE.

That's a good idea.
