I read about how some of you are interested in the "iron" case and wonder what I am missing. Then I see a picture, and it is the "Steelbook" case that you are all talking about.
If you ordered your "Lion King" on pre-order with Best Buy you will get the "Steelbook" case with your Blu-ray combo pack.
Just curious if there was a difference in what you call 'iron pack' and what is called a "steelbook" in this case.

It's not a steelbook, this is called an ironpack. The difference is that the case isn't made out of steel, it's made out of iron. They are 2 different things, and Best Buy switch to the ironpacks last year with Beauty and the Beast. They are apparently cheaper to make.dvdjunkie wrote:I read about how some of you are interested in the "iron" case and wonder what I am missing. On further investigation however, I guess it really isn't steel or iron. It's called a Viva Metal Case or something. Here's a youtube video displaying the case, and although the guy refers to it as an ironpack the title says otherwise.

Disney has released three different brands of metal collectible cases so far.
The first wave, which included Snow White, Pinocchio, Sleeping Beauty, Nightmare Before Christmas, Ratatouille, Monsters Inc, Up, Wall-E, A Bug's Life, Cars, and the first three Pirates films, were actual "Steelbooks". Steelbook seems to be the most popular brand among collectors.
The second wave, which included Princess and the Frog, Beauty and the Beast, Toy Story 1, 2, and 3, Alice in Wonderland 2010, and Prince of Persia, were "Ironpacks". Ironpack is simply a different brand of basically the same thing, with some very minor differences.
This third wave, which will include Lion King, Bambi, Cars 2, The Incredibles, and Pirates 4, are "Viva Metal Box", which has a few bigger differences from the other two.

Jungle Book also had a Steelbook. It came wrapped up seperately with the plastic DVD case. I might end up parting with it as I'm not a big Steelbook collector.SWillie! wrote:Disney has released three different brands of metal collectible cases so far.

Saw Blucollection's unboxing on YouTube tonight, and I'm glad I'm skipping the Trilogy set. For the price the set could be a lot better. Pretty scary how the discs just fall out of the set.
Probably going to grab the 2 disc set at Toys R Us (their weekly ad mentions using the DMR coupon on both versions, so hopefully they will honor it), and pick up the separate releases of 1 1/2, and 2 later.

If there is anyone that reads this that would be interested in selling me their Pinocchio, Jungle Book, or Princess and the Frog cases or if you know of a way I could get any of them for less than $50, PM me and let me know. I hear the PatF case is still pretty widely available at Future Shop, and I really want the Bambi case too so I might take a long weekend vacation up into Canada to get my hands on them. I'd also like to visit Detroit and just be in Canada since I've never been to either place. Are there Future Shops in Canada near Detroit?

'The Lion King' Is in the Top 10 Grossing Films of All-Time Domestically
http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/l ... -no-242945

The 3D re-release of Disney's The Lion King has propelled the classic animated tune to No. 10 on the elite roster of all-time top grossing films at the domestic box office. The Lion King ended Sunday with a total domestic cume of $408.2 million.
The re-release of The Lion King itself has earned $79.7 million, beating all expectations. Overseas, where it is still rolling out, it has grossed $19 million for a worldwide total of $98.7 million.
"The Lion King is a timeless classic whose characters and story are as beloved today as ever. Breaking into the top 10 is a testament that quality entertainment for people of all ages is a cornerstone to achieving such incredible success," Disney executive vice president of distribution Dave Hollis said.
In North America, The Lion King came in No. 3 over the weekend after placing No. 1 the previous two weekends in one of the biggest box office upsets in recent memory. More than 90 percent of the grosses have come from 3D locations (the film is being offered on conventional screens as well).
The Lion King is one of only three animated films on the all-time top 10 list after Shrek 2 ($441.2 million) and Toy Story 3 ($415 million).
The Lion King has a strong shot at even eclipsing Toy Story 3, although the Diamond Blu-Ray edition of the film will be released on Oct. 4. Rival studios have questioned whether Lion King will stay in theaters once the Blu-Ray is released, but all indications are that exhibitors will keep playing the toon.
Barbossa - yes, but it is not a blu-sized case like the rest of them. It was released a couple years before all of the blu-ray releases if I'm not mistaken. I wouldn't consider part of the same "series". That said, it IS a gorgeous steelbook. I hope they put out a G2 sized case like it when Jungle Book is released on BD.

If I find it, I'll keep you in mind. I'm just not sure where it is right now after I moved to Calgary earlier in the summer. It could still be at my sister's place in Kelowna. Here'a pic of how it looks (not my pic):Mason_Ireton wrote:Barbossa, I'm willin to relieve you of your Jungle Book's Steelbook, e-mail/pm me if you're truely willin to part with it.

It was kinda odd that the discs did not come in the Steelbook. You ended up getting two covers for one movie.

I've asked my mom to stop by Toys R Us sometime this week to pick up the 3D Blu-ray combo (for $22.99 with the coupon) and it comes with a free poster as well. Hopefully she'll be able to make it this week because even though I have the Platinum Edition, I feel like the picture quality is an improvement (after reading some reviews, of course). The 3D disc is completely useless to me but I'll actually use the digital copy. I'll probably end up moving the PE's discs over to the BD case and have a four disc set that I can actually watch if I want to (which is what I did for The Incredibles when I got it in July).

That's awesome, it's one of my fav. films.
Saw a tv preview for Lion King blu/cinema, it was kinda hard to swallow with the mere mention of "also in cinemas" at the bottom.
Fricken excited only 24 hours left

Hmm, it might still make it as long as they ship from a warehouse really close to you. My pre-order shipped yesterday, but it was more towards mid-afternoon. Hopefully you don't have to wait until tomorrow.monorail91 wrote:It's 10 PM, my delivery from Amazon is estimated to be tomorrow (Oct. 4) and still hasn't shipped - should I be worried?
I've pre-ordered 2 films prior to The Lion King, but this is the first one that will arrive on release day. Amazon upgraded my shipping method after Dumbo was stuck in shipping limbo for almost 4 days.

Just got an e-mail them saying my order was delayed indefinitely. Can't believe it, I ordered this in April (or whenever it was available for sale). Second time in just a few months Amazon has dropped the ball (they also cancelled my order for Born This Way...without telling me?)
Whenever it arrives I won't open it, I'm gonna try to do Best Buy's deal with Beauty and the Beast 3D.

So I bought The Lion King 3D Combo Pack today. I went to Target and got the Combo Pack that comes with the Original Soundtrack (all the songs and score) included in the Digital Copy. I got a price match with Toys r Us ($27.99) and used the $5 coupon from online. My final price was $22.99 not including tax. But when you compare the lowest final price of the regular Blu-Ray-DVD combo pack ($14.99) to what I paid, you're basically getting the 3D Blu-Ray disc, Digital Copy, and soundtrack for $8 more. That's a great deal. And I think I read somewhere that the online coupon is the same as the Subway coupon despite the online coupon claiming that it can only be used for the 4-disc combo pack. Could someone clarify if this is correct?
That's strange, and almost seems like the same thing that happened to me with Dumbo. I pre-ordered in May with free shipping, and the order moved into "shipping soon" the Monday before release day. Then, on Thursday, it switched back to "not yet shipped." I called to inquire and although they couldn't explain what happened, they upgraded both Dumbo and The Lion King to 2 day shipping. It might be worth giving them a call about your order.monorail91 wrote:Just got an e-mail them saying my order was delayed indefinitely. To delay the order indefinitely is strange, I wonder if they ran out of stock or something? That seems kind of unlikely, but who knows.
