Now we're overdue for a new animated shorts collection.

Post by The_Iceflash »

We're approaching 3 years since the last Wave of Disney treasures have been released. It's time for a new collection. It'll be 10 years this year since the first wave was released. Has anyone heard anything suggesting that a new animated shorts collection is a'comin'?

Since Warners are starting to releaseing Looney Tunes and MGM's Tom and Jerry on blue-ray I think Disney will consider to do so at one point as well. I hope they will give them new restoration and remastering. I think Disney could have done better job on including orginal Columbia, United Artist, and RKO titles. and they could have done better job in picture quality on cartoons relasead in Wave 5. I hope they don new collection that both re-release the WDT material and new to home video materal.
Der Fuehrer's Face is the greatest Donald Duck cartoon ever made.

Hopefully they have collections that are truly chronological - Mickey Mouse Black and Whites shouldn't have been split up, it's a mess when you try to watch them in order.

September 4, 2009 - Met Tom Hulce
September 18, 2009 - Met Miley Cyrus

And it is something I will ask Jerry Beck next time he's on Stu's Show this December.

I'd like to see them put out the "Wonderful World of Color" era animated anthology episodes with VonDrake, Ranger, et al -- as they packaged the best shorts in a fresh, funny way with original animation. These remain a great introduction to the shorts library (and aren't dependent on those who may be unfamiliar with the library picking titles randomly). And we haven't seen these on DVD at all.

I would really like to see them do something to replace or continue the Treasures sets I tend start craving them this time of year and there is nothing new to be found. I always liked getting these for myself as an early christmas present. Keeping fingers crossed!

Did anyone watch Mickey’s Christmas Special on ABC Family? It was a collection of 3 holiday shorts: Pluto’s Christmas Tree, Donald’s Snow Fight and Toy Tinkers. I only mention this because Pluto’s Christmas Tree was fully restored and in HD (I think someone has uploaded an HD recording onto YouTube). The others were grainy and uneven, with the sharpness of a VHS tape.

We've seen this before with the Have a Laugh shorts being fully restored in HD and the Thru the Mirror short being fully restored in HD on the Alice in Wonderland Blu-ray (among many other examples).

I'm really excited for the inevitable shorts collection on Blu-ray. I wonder which collection will be the first?
