none to happy with DMC! why no reviews on this site?
Well, I finally received my copies of EMIL AND THE DETECTIVES and THE LITTLEST OUTLAW.
I have been a Disney Movie Club member for the past year and half...and to be honest...only because I wanted to have a lot of the more obscure titles on dvd. I was especially pleased whenever they began releasing many of the tv movies from the WONDERFUL WORLD OF COLOR. As I have stated in past posts...I am a dedicated fan to that series and wish Disney would give the proper treatment.
Do we really want to settle for transfers from vhs masters? why do they not release these as they were originally shown? in episodic format?
the intros with Walt Disney are classic!!
In terms of the "exclusive" releases....I can only say that they are a mixed bag...some are good, while others are a disgrace. I wish this site would allow people to post reviews of these releases so that other fans would know what titles to buy and what to miss. Several titles that I already had on vhs...I should have not wasted 20+ dollars to have on dvd....the quality is the same.

I understand your reasoning but I myself am glad to see these films being available to the masses on a legit dvd release. At least they haven't turned to the dvd-r route. Even with some of the mainstream releases when they churning them out like crazy 2004-2006 the quality wasn't great either. Yeah would be nice if the quality was better but with the older live action films Disney has never really done much care besides the rare exception. Unlike Warners who pretty much always releases their films in the OAR with Disney it is whatever master they come upon first it seems.

When this website merged with "DVD Dizzy" the Disney reviews almost came to a complete halt. Now they review a bunch of non-Disney releases and the focus has changed. There is still some great information archived on the site, especially the filmographies, but it is no longer a reliable source for reviews of Disney product. In fact, I only read this one lone thread, to see what new exclusives have been announced, the rest of the site I don't even bother.
Lots of misinformation in your post. When Disney releases came to practically a complete halt, this site expanded to become DVDizzy.com and review as many titles as possible. Between myself, Aaron, Kelvin, Albert, and Renata, we have reviewed just about every Disney title that has been offered to us for review since since spring 2004. How that makes this site any less than reliable, I'd love to know. Show me a site that puts as much into reviewing Disney movies. Disney Movie Club titles are not offered for review. We don't get offered a bunch of the Playhouse Disney titles. Reviews wouldn't make nearly enough money to justify the cost to acquire them all. But thanks anyway for trashing the site.abbatazappa wrote:When this website merged with "DVD Dizzy" the Disney reviews almost came to a complete halt. whoa nelly!
well, i am glad u did not quote anything in my post that was considered trashing the site.....i appreciate the site...you said that movie club titles are not available to you guys....would it be possible to perhaps post reviews from members of the site who have the releases? anything is better than nothing..and hopefully it would boost sales of those releases that we are satisfied with and caution fans about buying materal that is sub-par.....just a thought!

Re: whoa nelly!
It would probably take a lot of time consuming for a forum member to review as well as this site does.....It's quite possible we won't know how good a transfer is on through the DMC Exclusives or their private under the radar dvd-mod program Disney Generations. The only way for the website reviewers would be if DMC sent them copies to review. And Given how well Disney Marketing of the 21st Century works, I'd say that would be on September 31stjustcuttinhair wrote:well, i am glad u did not quote anything in my post that was considered trashing the site.....i appreciate the site...you said that movie club titles are not available to you guys....would it be possible to perhaps post reviews from members of the site who have the releases? anything is better than nothing..and hopefully it would boost sales of those releases that we are satisfied with and caution fans about buying materal that is sub-par.....just a thought!

That is the wonderful thing about the internet, If something doesn't exist, The community can make it. A collaborative review page here or elsewhere by the buyers would be ideal.Luke wrote:Lots of misinformation in your post. Forum software such as phpBB is free and with a cheap or even free domain can be made. A Disney review website would be nice. It doesn't have to be admins to create and review, it can be the buyers. I use amazon alot for reviews myself.
If You build it, They will come. (With a lil' net marketing).

While not nearly as elaborate as this site, we hope to have some reviews for DMC or MOD titles on the Open Vault Disney site ultimately and have reviewed a few titles on our Facebook page. But, from just my limited experience already, I can back Luke up that Disney is not the best at releasing these kinds of titles to reviewers and even I find it hard to pick up every title out there as that is the only other alternative. But I and my staff do the best we can.
Also, it's a lot of work to produce the reviews that have been posted on this site or one of the kind of quality you'll find here. I personally am very grateful for what we have and really hope that no one here ever takes that for granted. For a few years now I have used this site to navigate what releases I wish to buy and which ones to skip. It has been very useful in building my Disney collection. Thank you Luke and Co. for a quality product!

I just miss the days when this site was solely dedicated to Disney. I look at the front page and have to search long and hard to find a Disney review. Now I realize part of that is as you mentioned Disney stopped the releases, but there is the Exclusives. I tried searching for some of those and could not find a review. In the "old days" those classic Disney releases, yes even the crummy live action ones, would get a big write-up, now, nothing. This one lonely thread stuck at the back of the forum is the last place to find the kind of information that used to thrive on the home page.Luke wrote:Lots of misinformation in your post. I do not mean to "trash" your site and I am sorry you took it that way. There is some terrific archived information here. I'm just saying the change that happened when DVDDizzy took over alienated me and I don't enjoy the site anymore. That's just me. Then again, I love Ten Who Dared.

dont be
I have to agree..I loved when this site was solely Disney as well..but, things change..and the people who run the site, say that Disney does not issue the "exclsuives" to them for review...which I think is stupid. Disney is so shitty! these day in my opinion...they want you to join their movie club and spend money and these various re-issues that come out every two years...yet do not provide means for the public to know whether it's worth their money or not.

Over at Open Vault Disney, we've started to review DMC titles. We have reviews up for "The Fighting Prince of Donegal" and we just finished a review for "So Dear to My Heart."
We have plans for more reviews to come from this and DVD-on-Demand titles. I need to make it clear however, we have no intrust in stepping on toes. We are providing these reviews as something to help inform customers about the two ways "vintage" titles will be release at all going forward, which is our point and purpose to get such titles released, and as a way to entertain folks while we wait for news of new releases and to get people to visit our site and hopefully help us our in our campaign.
We will never review retail releases with the possible exception of animated shows not yet reviews here. For the best reviews for such titles, this site right here is THE best resource and we'll gladly direct folks to this site for those reviews. If UD has reviews a title, we will not review those titles.
But, we hope to do the best job we can with what we have to review as many DMC and MOD titles so that each of you and others can help decide what of these titles is worth picking up and what titles are not. Please also keep in mind that some of the early DMC titles have been reviewed here.
We hope to have reviews coming up for "The Sword and the Rose," "Zorro: Season One," "Rob Roy, The Highland Rogue," "Polly," and "Kim Possible: Season One" next. But please keep in mind, these plans could change.
Please visit http://openvaultdisney.com for more.
