Star Wars Saga Blu Ray set confirmed to be in the works
I also wish From Star Wars to Jedi was included as well. I am not sure about these blu rays...I don't want the prequels, but I THINK the complete Saga is the ONLY way to get those television specials...they are not available for sale separately.
I don't like all the changes Lucas keeps making. I don't mind a few things like deleted scenes that should have never been deleted (in the special edition from 1997, they re-added that scene where Biggs and Luke are reunited. They also included Red Leader, who knew Luke's father (I wonder if that would ever get retconned).

Disney Channel died when they stopped airing movies with Haley mills (Parent Trap and Pollyanna) and fun adventure movies like Swiss Family Robinson. R.I.P. the REAL Disney Channel. Date of Death: When the shows became teenie bopperish.

"From Star Wars to Jedi" is an amazing special and I am also sad to see that Lucas is not including this in the Blu-ray set. Guess I will have to keep my DVD-R and enjoy it that way.
Am I among the minority who doesn't mind the changes Lucas has made to enhance the Star War films?
I just watched the original trilogy on a Blu-ray player for the first time, and was shocked at how unfinished it looked compared to what we have now. In the "A New Hope" film, you can tell where all the super-imposed scenes are, and you can see Darth Vader's eyes through the mask, and some of the wires that didn't removed in the released print. "The Empire Strikes Back" really seems bare when they get to Cloud City and all it is is some buildings. I think that adding more things to it makes it look more like a place where the Empire would be interested. "Return of the Jedi" has the fewest flaws of the three movies, but they are still there and with the upconversion are very noticeable. I wish that he hadn't changed the music for the celebration at the end of the movie, and I know it was necesxary to make the changes to Darth Vader's unmasking so it reflects the storyline from the first three chapters.
Originally there was supposed to be nine films in the series, and I, for one, am glad that they stopped with "Return of the Jedi".
I also like most of the additions Lucas has made to the original trilogy, and the first three chapters seem to fit right into the flow of the story.
I am looking forward to the Blu-ray release and will add it to my collection within 10 minutes after the doors open at Best Buy.

The only change in them that really irks me is adding Darth Vader saying no no and saving his son from the emperor in Return of the Jedi, however it's not enough to make me boycott the set like some people are. I kept my Star Wars original trilogy DVDs, which the 2nd disc had the untampered with edition...
And I liked the Prequels and the Original trilogy....so naturally i'm getting the complete saga.

I don't mind most of the changes, but I'm also not a die hard "Star Wars" fan. I'm a bigger Trekker. Anyway, I think "Star Wars" fans that do have issues with the changes need to stop complaining and start telling Lucas how they feel via their wallets. Just don't buy the new releases. I wonder how many fans that complain turn around and then buy whatever the new set is? Kind of silly I think. If enough people don't buy "Star Wars," I'm sure they will get George's attention far better then writing about how dumb he is on some internet forum.dvdjunkie wrote:"From Star Wars to Jedi" is an amazing special and I am also sad to see that Lucas is not including this in the Blu-ray set. Some of the changes are ok. I don't mind changes that enhance something (XWing/Ties in A New Hope, Windows in Empire, CGI Yoda in Episode 1, etc...), but changes like Vader's NO. Noooo! in Jedi? That completely changes the tone/way that scene goes down. That shouldn't be done, and I hope its a change that only gets released on Blu-ray. Back in the 1997 Special Edition Lucas added a scream to Luke when he fell after his duel with Vader in Empire. It was a reused scream from the Emperor's death in Jedi too. It was removed in the 2004 edition. I hope that is the case with the new "no's" and future releases.
I also hope no one is getting rid of their DVDs of the Prequels or Originals because a lot of that material is also not on the Blu-ray set. There is a ton of new stuff on disc 7, 8, and 9 though.
I'm mixed on the Prequels. I don't hate them, but they haven't held up well for me. I also don't see the Original Trilogy as bad with the outdated special effects. If anything the new CGI from 1997 to Present sticks out in these films. I really think Lucas should release the Originals along with his Special Editions because both have a big fan base.
So far I've seen prices for Target and Toys R Us next week.
Target has the Complete Saga for $79.99 (Free 8 pack lithograph set with purchase), and each Trilogy for $39.99
Toys R Us has the Original Trilogy set for $29.99, but no listing for the Prequels or Complete Saga sets.

Me too. I can’t find the logic in leaving the two best Star Wars docs off this set, as there was plenty of room and I was really hoping to see Empire of Dreams in HD.DarthPrime wrote: Disc 9 looks great, but I wish From Star Wars to Jedi, and Empire of Dreams were included.
I’ve watched the whole thing on YouTube a while back and all I can say is...NEVER AGAIN. It was one of the most excruciating experiences in my life. With fanboys crying about it not being included, I thought I was missing out but now I know why Lucas and all those involved pretend it doesn’t exist. Even the infamous Boba Fett first appearance cartoon is horrible. I just want to pretend this never happened, as it honestly made me like the movies less.DarthPrime wrote: I highly doubt we will ever get a full release of the Holiday Special. From what I know it was shown once on TV, and that was it. Lucas hates it, and several people involved with it try to forget it even happened. I remember on Late Night a few years ago Conan showed Harrison Ford a clip from it, and Ford looked like he was about to run off the set. It was pretty funny. Honestly I don't blame them. Its a terrible special, but it would be nice to see it get a official release.
Of all the updates, I feel the new Krayt Dragon Call takes the cake for WTF was he thinking? I know the original one didn’t sound like it could be produced by human vocal cords but the noise Obi-Wan now makes is just ridiculous (lets just say I don’t imagine a dragon when I hear it). I honestly thought it was a joke and couldn’t stop laughing the first time I heard it:

In the end, I’ll be picking this set up in a few years when it hits the bargain bin, only so I can legally download the HD versions of Adywan’s Star Wars: Revisited saga that will most certainly be sourced from this set.

Ok that was a joke.
Anyway I'm curious if anything other than Yoda was changed in the Prequels. I've read a lot about the Original Trilogy, but nothing on the Prequels other than a few shots of CGI Yoda. Screen shots so far look good. Some of the Original Trilogy screen shots compared to HDTV broadcasts don't show a lot of improvement, but I'm sure the audio is fantastic. I think The Phantom Menace looks a lot better based on the screen shots.
For prices... Best Buy has each Trilogy for $39.99, and the Saga Set for $89.99 with a free shirt with Vader on it.
Based on the changes, and price I'm skipping this release for now. Although I am kind of tempted to just buy the Original Trilogy for $30 at Toys R Us and forget about the bonus features.

Thought it was going to be the same at Best Buy. I don't shop online because Amazon cannot be trusted not to add things to your credit card.
Many years ago, Amazon and I went the rounds for 16 months while trying to prove that I bought something I didn't, and my vow then, and it still stands now, is to never put my credit card on the internet for anyone, or anything.
Besides I don't want to wait a month for it to ship. A friend of mine got his confirmation on his order and the Star Wars Saga on Blu-ray will be shipped within two to three weeks of the September 16 date.
I want it in my hands on the 16th within two minutes of Best Buy opening.

Amazon claims they are sending out the Blu-ray Star Wars Saga on a first come first served basis and as of right now they can't guarantee delivery before the first week in October. So while you guys sit and wait for your copy I will be home sitting back and watching mine on September 16.

I wouldn't buy it at Best Buy unless you have a Target ad to pricematch. Target has it fo $79.99 with a set of 8 lithographs while Best Buy gives you a film cell & their price is $89.99. I'd prefer the lithos so I'll be getting it at Target.

Honestly, I'm quite surprised by some of the alterations, but I'm not too pissed about them. Yes; I'm a diehard Star Wars fan (though I'm not a complete purist), but I'm open-minded as well. The ones complaining about the alterations- the fanbrats- are just being immature about them.
But moving on, a big question for those lucky enough to get their hands on the Star Wars Blu-rays....
Is the Blu-ray transfer for the original trilogy any different from the 2004 DVD transfer of the original trilogy? In other words, does the picture look any different? I really REALLY wanna know. Please post any screencaps if you can for comparison.

I am happy my copy is being sent by amazon on the 16th of September since I live in Australia and there is always a two week wait. But its worth it. In Australia the same set (and we can never guarantee we will get everything America does) is coming out at twice the price! Only silver lining is we get it two days sooner (Sept 14th) but for the extra cost its just not worth it. So Ill chill with my dvd set a few weeks more whilst I wait.
SOOOOO EXCITED!

I can wait. I have it ordered through amazon, and I have learned patience, especially since i don't drive and the only place in town that would have it is Wal-Mart and I'm trying to learn patience. There's more to life than movies. I can wait. Plus Yoda and Obi Wan did often say Patience to Anakin and to Luke. Patience is a virtue, and I want to learn it while i'm younger very much.
