Other Animation SURVIVOR - Live Reunion Discussion

Post by AwallaceUNC »

Image Toy Story 2 Image
Is the Ultimate Disney.com Ultimate Survivor of Disney's Non-Feature Animation!

Of course, we'll revisit this a while down the road. For now, it's time to discuss! Over the course of about a month, we narrowed down these films in 12 rounds! Here's a recap of what the votes looked like:

Round 1 - Recess: School's Out, Teacher's Pet
Round 2 - Doug's First Movie, Piglet's Big Movie
Round 3 - The Jungle Book 2, Dinosaur
Round 4 - James and the Giant Peach, Return To Neverland
Round 5 - The Tigger Movie, The Brave Little Toaster
Round 6 - Ducktales: The Movie- The Treasure Of The Lost Lamp*
Round 7 - A Goofy Movie
Round 8 - The Nightmare Before Christmas
Round 9 - A Bug's Life
Round 10 - Toy Story
Round 11 - Finding Nemo
Round 12 - Monsters, Inc.
Winner - Toy Story 2

In order to simulate the TV show as best we can, we're going to have the online equivalent of the Live Reunion episode! This is where you can come in and reflect on the game, and unwind in the mean time. What do you think of the winner? The final 4 or 5? Which movies left too early? Which ones left too late? (And why?) Did you like the game? Why or why not? What suggestions would you make? What strategies did you employ? Feel free to share your thoughts on any of the film 'contestants,' or the game itself! Or, if you want, you can just share your thoughts on the winner! It's your's to discuss whatever you want!

Also, I'd like everyone to discuss what they want to play next time. Direct-To-Video and Live Action were about neck-and-neck in the poll, and a lot of people said they were iffy on their votes.

I'll also try to come in and post random facts & stats about the game. Everyone is welcome, regardless of whether you played the whole time, just a few rounds, or even if you just observed or are a newbie!

I hope everyone has enjoyed playing! And now, our
Live Reunion...

I’ve loved, I’ve laughed and cried.
I’ve had my fill; my share of losing.
And now, as tears subside,
I find it all so amusing.
To think I did all that;
And may I say - not in a shy way,
No, oh no not me,
I did it my way!

I feel that the original Toy Story was jipped. But this would have been my second choice, so whoo whoo! Woody is my hero!

A Bug's Life was actually my favourite Pixar Movie. Second was Monsetrs Inc lol. And third Toy Story 2, so I think it's a worthy winner

The winner should have been Finding Nemo but that is my opinion. I have loved this completition so much I have loved the looking the watching the friends oh what fun.

We should have another one of these some time soon.

I think the Nightmare Before Christmas was terribly underrated and should have outlasted some of the pixar movies.

However, PIXAR has yet to come anywhere close to making a bad movie.

In my opinion we got the final three right and choosing between them could have gone in any direction.

Now I admittedly came in late to the Pixar Party and my first exposure to the movies was through that 3-pack Toy Story/Toys Story 2/Bug's Life DVD set, but after that I was hooked. Saw Monsters Inc. and Finding Nemo in the theatre and thoroughly enjoyed them.

But seeing them in a compressed timeline gave me a slightly different viewpoint, and right after watching TS and TS2 consecutively, I was amazed at how much better the sequel was. It literally had it all, and Pixar made the excellent decision to not just plow out a cheapquel, but to change the character arc from Buzz in the original, to Woody in the sequel and create an even better story and a deeper theme.

Of course, many view the first Toy Story through nostalgic eyes, since it was the first 3D animated Pixar feature, and perhaps I would too had I seen them in their theatrical release. But after viewing them concurrently, TS2 stands along with Godfather 2 as the only two sequels to far outpace their exceptional originals.

Well, compared to other sequels, Toy Story 2 is one of the better ones. Still, while, I feel it could be even better, I'd rank it 3rd among Pixar films. Some of you young whipper-snappers need to watch or re-watch the original Toy Story, though. It's solid gold, I tell you!

And A Bug's Life really improves with multiple viewings. It's a fantastic film that strays the most from anything close to a formula that people might associate with Pixar.

I really like Bug's Life, but it does bother me it's such a blatant "homage/rip off" of Seven Samurai.

Well all good things must come to in end so here is to the end of another survivor. KI am not really dissapointed with the movie that won. I think Toy Story 2 is a great movie and one of the best sequals I have seen. And I am really Happy for Monsters Inc. for making so far in the ball game. I guess the most surprising things in the game for me were how far a Bug's Life got before being elminated and everyone saying they didnt like Finding Nemo. But good game :) Looking foward to the next one.

Oh, and I forgot to say it in my last post, but nice job running this, Aaron. These two Survivor games have been very fun, and you've done a great job at running them accurately and on time. Kudos!

Seconded. You have done a great job. You get my vote for best idea for a thread. And one of my ideas was nominated too.

Thanks a bunch for the entertainment.

Luke and JJJ- thanks very much for the kind words. That was nice, and I really appreciate it. JJJ, congrats on your idea nom... and to all the other nominees as well (sorry to stray from topic, lol).

I had a lot of fun playing this game as well. For the second time in a row, my #1 pick from the beginning went all the way! :D I thought the final 4 should have been MI, TS, TS2, and Nightmare. There were a few minor surprises, but my biggest shock was how early Nightmare left. I actually expected it to be a serious contender for the championship at the game's start.

I watched the two Toy Stories back to back a few months ago when someone had posted that "Which Is Better?" poll here. In the end, I thought TS2 was slightly more adventuresome the first, with better villainry. It was a very close call, though. If it were up to me, Bug's & Nemo would have gone first (of the final 5), and then MI & TS are a toss-up, and then TS2 stands out as the winner. They are all solid films, though, and both TSs and MI would be worthy winners.

The avg number of voters was a little bit less in this game than the last, but that's to be expected for two big reasons: (1) it's in the summer (2) Pixar & Nightmare aside, these movies aren't nearly as popular as the AC. The upside to this game is that the final 4 weren't necessarily as predestined as with the last game, though they did all end up being from Pixar. The game actually had a bigger turnout than I expected, and it ran smoothly. I had a lot of fun, and I'm glad to hear that everyone else has as well. :)

I think this was another fine Survivor game, although I think Toy Story and Finding Nemo should have lasted a bit longer.

Hope the next one will be as good as the previous 2!

Ok, guys. I think Direct To Video won by one vote, but they were pretty evenly split, and there was a lot indecision (based on the comments). Do you want to movie ahead with Direct to Video? Or should we allow discourse to continue for another day or two b/w that and Live Action (TLM Soundtrack being removed from the fray or the time being). Just let me know. :)

Either way is fine by me. I'm looking forward to start a new Survivor game, whether it's Direct-to-Video or Live Action. I have only seen a few direct-to-video features, though, so it will be hard for me to partake in that one.

Ok, I just went ahead and made the final call 8) . Live Action Survivor will begin on Wednesday or Thursday. More details on the formatting will come then. I'll be in Disney World for a week at the beginning of July, so the game will have to go on hold then, but that may or may not (hopefully) come at a convenient spot in the game anyways. :) Sound good?
