The 'Holy Grail' of Disney Animation

Post by Sotiris »

What is that rare Disney film, short or footage that has never been released officially or otherwise that you would love to get your hands on?

That unfinishd Mickey Mouse cartoon called Plight of the Bumblebee. I saw it online and it was really interesting but Disney had the uploader pull it before I could get a copy.

Yes, I think this one is easy to answer!

"Lorenzo" - a short by Mike Gabriel ('Pocahontas' director) about a cat whose tail has a mind of its own.

It premiered before the film "Raising Helen" in theaters and was promptly never heard from again. I Emailed Gabriel a few years ago and he said Disney was in the process of making a new shorts collection it would appear on.

I assume this was the now abandoned "Fantasia World."

Either way, the very fact this film has never been seen online apart from screenshots is maddening. "Destino" could at least be found on YouTube" prior to its recent Blu-ray debut.

I'll second "Lorenzo." "Song of the South" can at least be found as a decent-quality bootleg, but "Lorenzo" doesn't even have a youtube upload.

Ok, that is true. Good point!

In terms of classic Walt Disney animation:

Song of the South first and formost, naturally...

...but also the Disneyland/Walt Disney Presents/Wonderful World of Color anthology hours with original animation: all the Ludwig VonDrake, Ranger Woodlore, Jiminy Cricket, Donald Duck, Magic Mirror (et al) hosted shows.

... also unreleased featurettes Scrooge McDuck and Money, It's Tough to be a Bird and Dad, Can I Borrow the Car.

...also the uncut, uncensored 40's package features such as Melody Time and Make Mine Music.

To me it would be The Sweatbox

Trudie Styler, a documentarian, had been allowed to film the production of Kingdom of the Sun/The Emperor's New Groove as part of the deal that originally brought her husband Sting to the project. As a result, Styler recorded on film much of the struggle, controversy, and troubles that went into making the picture (including the moment when producer Fullmer called Sting to inform the pop star that his songs were being deleted from the film). Styler's completed documentary, The Sweatbox, premiered at the Toronto Film Festival on September 13, 2002. Disney owns the rights to the documentary and has not released it on home video or DVD.

I wish we could see what Eartha Kitt thought of her character changes and not having a number in the final film....

I love ENG but i would like a Kingdom of the Sun .... maybe with Kuzco's son??? 8)

Song of the South (obviously) - I refuse to buy any bootleg DVDs of the movie as that could give possible scammers personal information.

I would also like to see DVD releases of the following:

-The Disneyland anthology series (full episodes beyond the Walt Disney Treasures episodes).

-Uncut versions of Make Mine Music and Melody Time

It's actually a scene in a segment that's cut out (The tobacco rolling scene in the Pecos Bill segment). You can read about it on Melody Time's Imdb's page.

I wish the would animated that and add it to a future release of the film .... They would have great bonus features!

(I also think this could work where Yzma's Perfect Day reprise was ment to be placed!)
