Which Disney movies do you think are the most overrated?
Personally, I think The Lion King is a bit overrated, but I enjoy it nonetheless. I also think that The Little Mermaid is a bit overrated, but I still consider it brilliant; also, I think Lady & The Tramp is a weak film and especially overrated, and Sleeping Beauty is not the masterpiece many people think it is.
Oh, and of course, the POTC films are unbelievably overrated.
I think Up is wildly overrated. I adore all the parts of the film revolving around Carl, his wife, and Russell (maybe my favorite Pixar character!) and find those aspects of the film deeply moving. I don't care for the subplot with Carl's hero and the airplane and all that, I honestly fast forward through it.
I also think Wall-E is very overrated - the first 45 minutes or so, when the movie is essentially silent, is brilliant, but once the humans show up it becomes too preachy and is honestly unwatchable IMO.
January 6, 2009 - Met Stephen Schwartz
September 4, 2009 - Met Tom Hulce
September 18, 2009 - Met Miley Cyrus
August 3, 2011 - Met John Musker
I think both Beauty and the Beast and The Lion King get way too much praise (and I am well aware this has been repeated many times before). I don't hate them, but they are not in my top five favorites, either.
I never really liked Cinderella much at all, either. I don't know why, but this one just bores me.
Me and many, many people are probably going to say Tangled is overrated within the next year (the wedding short comes in spring).
I didn't want to see the Pirates of the Caribbean movies because I thought they were overrated. I eventually did watch them and thought they were enjoyable.
I'd say the
-Toy Story sequels
-Beauty and the Beast
- The Lion King
(sometimes I think Cinderella??? ... Well the Cinderella character anyway)
It's funny the above comments think the same as me :')
Sky Syndrom I don't see how the Wedding short makes Tangled over rated ..... I really think WDAS latest releases were really enjoyable e.g TPaF and Tangled
All our dreams can come true, if we have the courage to pursue them. - Walt Disney
Now I like all these movies in varying degress, but I think these are overrated
Toy Story 3-come on, it just rehashes the previous two!
Beauty And The Beast-beautifully made, but just doesn't quite work for me, can't really describe it
Tangled-I found it just a bit dull and lacking in the required magic
The Sword In The Stone-ditto

I'm fine with the short. I'll simply be tired with some people gushing about the short and gushing about Tangled because the short rekindled their interest in the film so they rewatch the film and point out stuff that's been pointed out dozens of times and bringing up ancient Tangled news everyone knows about.
The Lion King. I've read comments from fans who say it's the deepest, most meaningful film they've ever seen, and I feel sad for them. If that's true, all the other films you've seen must've been superficial plot-less crap. The Lion King impresses and awes herdes of people because it's visually powerful. Its supposed 'mature themes' are superficial and simplistic, as are its 'life lessons'. It's familiar New Age-stuff ("circle of life") presented in such an obvious way that you have to be a complete moron to not get it --the movie practically hits you over the head with it, like Rafiki did to Simba. The so-called serious dialogue between those two are cringe-worthy. If it's this simply to 'get' "The Message", then how 'deep' is it, exactly?

Agreed.

It didn't with me, not even when I was a little kid. Now, whenever I watch it, I just find it so overdone. It's so clearly *meant* to be epic and thoughtful and meaningful and to have A Message, that it falls flat entirely.
I also think most Disney films from the 1950's are overrated. To be true, Disney has been downhill ever since WW II.
Cool thread. I shall begin from the bottom of the 50 animated list;
Tangled; I had some expectations to this movie and while its not bad, it doesn't live up to its hype. I think the film has overall some tone problems; It was surprisingly dark and intense at times. Seeing this movie as a whole, the dark tones just didn't flowed well with the light tones. I thought the script had some obvious plot holes, especially towards the rushed end. Alan Menken's songs were a dissapoinment, with the exception of "I See the Lights".
Bolt; It was a quite average film. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't particularly memorable or outstanding either.
Lilo & Stitch; Like I've stated many times before; This movie had potential to be something unique, but it was ruined by a weak screenplay.
Mulan; It is a watchable and fun film, but it just doesn't live up to its hype. It has a good story, good action and a strong heroine, but the characters and the music are bland and forgettable. It lacks the "it" factor that makes a Disney movie a classic.
Beauty and the Beast; While I've learned to love this movie during the years (I hated it as a kid), I don't think it deserves to be viewed as Disney's most loved movie at all times. The reasons; While Gaston does display a multilayered personality, I think he's overall a weak villain and antagonist to the Beast. His reason for his villainy could have been more developed. Although I do like the enchanted objects, I think the movie should have dedicated more time to develop the relationship between Belle and the Beast. There is some annoying kiddish humor as well, which was on the same level as "Hunchback" (but "Beauty" never got bashed for the same reason). And overall, I think the ending scene is cute, but not as memorable as other ending scenes. While the message of this movie is inspiring, I think the overall screenplay is too simple, too conventional. I'm not hating on "Beauty", it is a really cute movie. But it doesn't deserve the "perfection" mark that it has gotten. Its not pure perfection.
The Little Mermaid; It is a cute movie, but as "Beauty", it really doesn't deserve the classic mark. While the songs are good, I think the movie doesn't have the "it" factor that makes the Disney classics great. I just don't like Ariel
101 Dalmatians; It is a cute movie, but really, what is so remarkable about it? I just don't see it.
Pinocchio; It is a cute and watchable movie. But a classic? No. It's just average.
Overall, I think most of the Pixar films are overrated, with the exception of "Toy Story", "Finding Nemo", "Up" and the Cars flicks (yes, I'm not afraid to say that I like them).
I'm not sure which of their main animated classics I'd find overrated, but I do know which Disney Pixar movies I find overrated:
Ratatouille and WALL-E!
Everyone praises those movies like they're God's greatest gift to man, putting them at the top of their Pixar lists.
Honestly I think they're my two least favorite Pixar movies. I don't know, maybe I just didn't "get" both of them. That's not to say that they're bad/unenjoyable movies... but nowhere near my favorite Pixar movies.
But the thing that makes Woody special, is he'll never give up on you... ever. He'll be there for you, no matter what.
It mostly feels like a Saturday morining cartoon to me, and I think that a lot of it's popularity stems from Genie, who IMO contributes greatly to the saturday morning cartoon feel. It's animation is overrated as well.
