This October, Warner Brothers will begin releasing their classic cartoon library in high definition with the Tom & Jerry: The Golden Collection, Volume One Blu-ray. The two-disc collection presents thirty-seven of the cat and mouse duo's most beloved cartoons fully restored in 1080p. The list of cartoons includes:

Looney Tunes: The Platinum Collection, Volume 1

Warner Bros. Senior VP George Feltenstein announced at a Comic Con panel today that the studio will release the Looney Tunes Platinum Collection: Volume One on Blu-ray this November. The panel was moderated by animation historian Jerry Beck, who also broke the news via a blog post on Cartoon Brew. The much anticipated release will bring 50 classic Looney Tunes cartoons to high definition.

The Looney Tunes Platinum Collection: Volume One will arrive in two variations, each containing 3 Blu-ray discs. A standard digibook version will retail for $59.96 while an Ultimate Collector's Edition will be available for $79.98. The Ultimate Collector's Edition will include a 52-page color book with rare images and sketches, a character shot glass, souvenier tin magnet and a framed Litho Cel with a certificate of authenticity. These will all be housed in a plastic box with a slipcover. Each Ultimate Collector's Edition box will be numbered for exclusivity.

Cartoon Brew has provided a preliminary outline of the toons that will be included on the set. These include:

Rats! and I just ordered the 4th volume of the Looney Tunes Golden Collection.

Anyways, the Looney Tunes UE set sounds interesting (I really like that cel), but I think I will hold on to my DVDs until it comes down to a decent price as most of the cartoons I already have. I am not too thrilled with the digibook packaging.

As for the Tom & Jerry set, I hope they restore the original voice of Mammy Two-Shoes to the shorts, or I will be happy with my Spotlight Collection DVDs.

Also, when are they going to release that Censored 11 DVD they promised earlier this year?

The Tom & Jerry set is chronological. They are skipping one cartoon ("Mouse Hunting"), but only because it's been unaired for a while and needs special attention in it's restoration. It should come out in the next set.

As to why the Looney Tunes aren't being released chronological order, have you tried to sit through a whole disc of their VERY early 1930's shorts? There are some good ones with Bosko, but most of those are hard to sit through in terms of entertainment. I would like character collections as well, but Warner seems to prefer putting a bunch of random cartoons in at a time. I don't mind it myself, but I understand where you're coming from .

Won't be double dipping for these because I already own all three sets of Tom and Jerry, and I got the replacement discs, so I am set. They look amazing upconverted to near HD, so I won't be bothering with that.

I also own all Six of the Looney Tunes Golden Collections and they all look superior on upconversion, so that's more money that I will be saving.

Now if Disney would just release a complete series of Chip 'n' Dale cartoons in DVD or Blu-ray I would be jumping at the chance to get them.

The same station also showed uncut Tex Avery cartoons in some kind of cartoon block along with the Tom and Jerrys. I was just a kid when I enjoyed them but they left a lasting impression on me; I would just love to have them in my collection today. Funny how it was the same era that one of the big networks chopped up Looney Tunes all to hell for Saturday mornings due to the cartoon violence.

That's awesome! I hope that happens, it would be a day 1 purchase for me too! Right now I have a mediocre bootleg of the LD's to get me by, and even some of those cartoons are edited.

I have not had a chance to buy any of the Looney Tune DVD's yet. So, my feeling is, which ever format give me preferable the full canon of the classic shorts, or at the very least, the majority of them, is the one I'll go with.

Mouse Cleaning is one of two cartoons WB chose to leave out of the DVD releases entirely, due to racial content. The other was Cassanova Cat. I got lucky with my Spotlight Collections, and managed to get the uncensored version of all shorts, except for His Mouse Friday, which was zoomed (ala Fantasia.)

I wonder if WB has changed their stance since then, and are actually planning to release those two shorts uncensored. Aviator, do you have a link where it is explicitly stated that they will release Mouse Cleaning?

I just want to inform those out there; apparently Fast and Furry-Ous has been applied with DNR for the Blu-Ray set. Scaredy Cat and I Love Ton Singna might've been affected too but I can't confirm that. Also, Rabbit Of Seville's audio is low-pitched. Suprisingly, considering that WHV fixed it for the Essential BB release. I've already e-mailed Jerry Beck about this since I figured it's better to tell him now before it's too late.
