Disgusting platform. Even worse is the MSM ignoring libertarian leaning candidates like Ron Paul in order to promote the extreme right candidates like Bachmann. They need to quit giving her attention.

I don't think she really is. Ron Paul has been consistently ranking second, even first in some polls, among GOP candidates but the MSM has been hiding that fact (especially CNN and FOX News). I almost NEVER see him in poll results or discussed by the MSM, and yet he continually ranks higher then the crazy no-shot contenders they can't stop talking about. There are even polls showing that there are less Republicans against gay marriage then there are for it. The extreme right wing is becoming extinct but the MSM doesn't want people to find out.

I agree with you that the mainstream media is biased and is doing a piss-poor job at representing all the candidates equally. I followed the Democratic primaries closely in 2008 and I clearly remember the debates: Hillary got 45 minutes to answer questions, Obama got 40 minutes and the only true left-wing candidate, Kucinich, got less than 5 minutes. So yes, I do believe the media play far too big a role in deciding who gets the nomination. But on the other hand you have to be realistic: Ron Paul did only poll in first or second in polls where the major contestants were not named. Sure, Paul got beat Herman Caine (who?), but Mitt Romney? No chance in hell. In most polls, Romney has consistently polled first and Bachmann second. (In some polls, Donald Trump even came in first.) Paul just takes too many extreme stands to ever win the nomination --let alone the presidency. He's too far out there. So it's not just a 'media conspiracy', you also have to realize most people are not for libertarian policies.

It also sheds new light on the Bachmanns’ embrace of the controversial ex-gay movement and related psychological approaches, which portray homosexuality as a disease to be rooted out.

Some of the most potent material was provided by Truth Wins Out, a gay rights group that opposes the ex-gay movement. In late June, a Truth Wins Out activist named John Becker donned two hidden cameras—one embedded in a wristwatch—and attended five treatment sessions at Bachmann’s Lake Elmo clinic. Becker, who is openly gay, presented himself as a committed Christian who was struggling with homosexuality. The video he collected seems to confirm Ramirez’s allegations that staff members at Bachmann & Associates try to change sexual orientation. Becker’s therapist (another of Marcus Bachmann’s employees) repeatedly assured him that homosexuality could be overcome. “At the core value…in terms of how God created us, we’re all heterosexual,” he explained, according to the footage. “God has created you for heterosexuality.” The therapist also mined Becker’s personal history for traumatic experiences that might have turned him gay. To curb Becker’s gay impulses, the therapist urged him to pray and read Scripture and suggested Becker “develop” his masculinity. He also encouraged him to find a “heterosexual guy” to act as an AA-type sponsor. Later, he referred Becker to Outpost Ministries, a church that helps “the sexually and relationally broken”—in other words, homosexuals—“find healing and restoration through relationship with Jesus Christ.”

Neither Britain nor Australia has a major party quite as bonkers as the Republicans, but believe me, this doesn't make a two party system much better. It's fine when a candidate is intelligent and articulate, but when both major candidates are complete fools, then the only real option voters have is to vote for a respectable minor party, and hope that there's a groundswell towards them.

Sort of. Neither party won the required number of seats, so six crossbenchers were called upon to make the decision. It was the first hung parliament Australia has had since 1940.
