Badass Digest has learned from an inside source at Marvel that Disney composer Alan Menken (the man behind the music for Little Mermaid, Aladdin, Newsies and more) is working on some sort of new music for the summer blockbuster.
Considering Captain America is a Marvel Studios production, I assume it's appropriate for this board. Anyway, I'm excited for what Menken writes, because, well, he's Alan Menken. Like the article said, it will likely be in the form in a USO show, but it could be a background tune meant to emulate that era. They did something similar in Iron Man 2 to excellent effect by hiring Richard Sherman to write the 60s-era tune they play in the end credits (obviously, a take on the "Carousel of Progress" song and his other work from the theme parks).
I was already looking forward to Captain America and this increases my interest further.

I think it is funny how many music guys that are strongly associated with Disney are starting to do their thing in Marvel films. Bet we see more of this, not that I'm mad at it or anything. It could be a very good thing.

Spider-Man isn't the only Marvel Comics character with a Broadway connection this summer.
When Marvel's Captain America gets his own big-screen adventure, "Captain America: The First Avenger," in movie theatres July 22, a new song by Broadway and Hollywood songwriters Alan Menken and David Zippel will be heard.
Composer Menken and David Zippel were nominated for the Academy Award for their song "Go the Distance" from the animated film "Hercules." This summer, in a montage sequence in "Captain America," moviegoers will hear the new Menken-Zippel song "The Star-Spangled Man (With a Plan)."
Zippel told Playbill.com that the title super-soldier in the World War II-set film appears at war bond rallies, where the song is performed. "It's a montage, and it's before he's actually Captain America," Zippel said. "[He's] in the process of becoming him. It shows him in these war bond presentations around the country over a series of time. It's very period, and Alan and I had a really good time doing it."
Don't worry, Captain America isn't singing in the movie. "It's sort of the Army band [and] a USO group singing," Zippel said.

It would seem fitting because Hercules was technically a superhero film.
LOL! Very true. In many ways, Herc WAS the first super hero!

Add Disney's Hercules and Marvel's Hercules and you got a multiverse situation. (not for a movie...but maybe a fun one time comic....)with Howard and Donald....Hercules and Hercules,....

COMPOSER ALAN MENKEN CREATES THEME SONG FOR CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER
Film opens July 22, soundtrack available July 19
Academy Award winning composer Alan Menken brings his unique voice to Captain America: The First Avenger by creating an original song. The film features the patriotic song “Star Spangled Man” written by Menken and David Zippel, performed by the Metro Voices. The song is written in the style of 1940s World War II army musicals. Menken has earned eight Oscars, more than any other living person, along with ten Grammys and seven Golden Globes. The film’s original score is composed by Alan Silvestri. The film opens July 22, soundtrack available July 19.
According to Menken, “‘Star Spangled Man’ is a USO style production number; stylistically an homage to those great wartime songs of Irving Berlin. In it, we follow the on-stage development of Captain America from a nervous amateur to a confident showman. For the song, I reunited with my Hercules collaborator and Tony award winner, David Zippel.’”
In addition to being an award-winning and prolific film composer, Menken currently has several new stage productions running including his Tony nominated Sister Act on Broadway and Aladdin the musical in Seattle. Menken is also working on a live musical adaptation of Newsies. Additionally, his Leap of Faith musical, which premiered in Los Angeles, is expected to open on Broadway later this year.
Menken has received accolades for his musical contributions including Oscars, Grammys, Golden Globes and Tony nominations. His philanthropic achievements with students earned him an honorary doctorate in Fine Arts from New York University. Recently he was immortalized with his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and his induction into the Songwriter Hall of Fame.
