Aladdin 20th Anniversary Edition (2012)

Post by Stitch127 »

Idk if this is true or not but aladdin seems to have a rumored release date in 2012 and since its not being released as part of the diamond edition line it will be a special edition on its own heres the link where its rumored http://disney.wikia.com/wiki/Aladdin

Although I hope this is true, I'm not sure that we can trust the Disney Wikia as a solid source. Disney is pretty unpredictable with their release schedule, so I doubt they'd make any mention of a release that was more than a year away (2012). It's more than likely speculation by a fan with the ability to edit the Wikia entry.

That being said, I think a 20th Anniversary Edition is a great idea now that the title has been bumped out of the Diamond line, unless they plan to re-classify it as a Diamond now that Fantasia is out. Only time will tell...

Isn't it unlikely that a film already in the market for 6 years will suddenly be reissued as a special edition? Keep in mind that due to its low sales, Aladdin never went oop.

You are wrong. "Aladdin" was sent back into the vault in 2008.

I find the rest of this paragraph is interesting and hope it's true but will take it with a grain of salt given the wiki source :)

Aladdin (20th Anniversary Edition) Blu-ray + DVD Combo and 2-Disc DVD is scheduled to be re-released in 2012 with Cinderella Diamond Edition Blu-ray and DVD and Lady and the Tramp Diamond Edition Blu-ray and DVD.

I don't think that's the case in the UK. It was recently re-issued (quietly) and is readily available in shops in a Musical Masterpiece edition and a trilogy box set.

It'll look fantastic on Blu!

You can bbuy the Platinum edition almost everywhere here in The Netherlands. It was reissued like a year or so ago. Only it's called Special Edition over here.

2012 would be 8 years after the original Platinum, so I can imagine a new release somewhere in the world...;)

The UK (as well as a few other European countries) had a Musical Masterpiece Edition released in August 2008 (basically it's a barebones edition with a Sing-Along feature thrown in, Mulan and Pocahontas got similar releases). Our original Platinum Edition went back into the vault quite early though (sometime in late 2005), and the Musical Masterpiece Edition was labelled as being for a "limited time only" (superficial as those words may have been).

Well, that website looks like it's essentially a glorified Wikipedia, so I will take this "news" as a pinch of salt for the time being. However, it would make sense. Disney's German branch has confirmed that Aladdin is one of the few old animated classics outside of the Diamond Editions slated for release on Blu-Ray, and given Disney's obsession with giving their films Anniversary Editions, it would slot in nicely there. I'm not sure whether it would get put back into the Diamond line (what with Fantasia having been yanked out), but it'd fit in there well, especially when one considers that Disney is seriously putting out two a year from the looks of things. In terms of genre, Aladdin would compliment Cinderella in October well (predicting that Cindy would come out in October 2012, of course). If Lady and the Tramp were to appear in March 2012, it would have equally only been six years since its last release, whereas Aladdin was last released stateside in October 2004 (granted, it was only vaulted in early 2008). Either way, as long as it's a good release, I don't mind what they label it as. :)

I'd love to purchase a DVD copy of Aladdin. A 20th anniversary edition sounds fun, but I don't think I could wait until 2012 for it to be released.

Yes, that's definitely fan-made. And I know I've seen it somewhere before, too. Not sure where, though, perhaps previously on that Amazon place marker? :?

Since this thread has been bumped, how do people feel about Aladdin's chances of getting released on Blu next year now, since Disney has started to release more non-Diamonds onto the format? I definitely imagine, and certainly hope, we might see it.

I'd be surprised if we don't see it released next year. even if this is just a rumor with no credible source, I still expect it to happen. Its a no brainer really. they already have the caps sourced HD version ready to go, and with it not being in the diamond line they don't have the pressure of adding a ton of new content. just port the dvd stuff over, maybe add some HD art gallery and your done. Of course I hope it'll have more in the way of extras, but cant say I expect too much.

One thing that could delay it is if they decide to give it the 3D treatment like the lion king, which I kinda hope they do. I want to see it in theaters again.

i would love aladdin to get a 3d theatrical re-release. the carpet flying as the cave of wonders collapses would be amazing! almost wish they had done that instead of the lion king.

I think time will tell. I'm ok with my current DVD though.

Have you seen the HD version when it airs on ABC family and/or Disney channel? I cant go back to dvd quality personally. Then again I would say that about pretty much anything.

I think HD is over rated. It looks so...wired. Don't know if I'll ever get used to it. I only started getting into Blu Ray becuase I decided I liked extras too much. That and my wife gets into high tech newness. She just had to get an iPad and really wants a 3DS. I could care less. But I've VERY limited in my Blu Ray buying and have about the cheapest Blu Ray player I could find.

Oh yes, I also don't have cable anymore. Been cable free since 2004. Between my massive DVD/ Blu Ray collection and Netflix, I don't feel I need cable. The only thing I really miss is soccer games, but I get by.

DVD quality is fine for me too (it looks great upscaled, and I don't particularly care for this film). I can probably keep my bluray sealed that way
