Yeah dont diss the lanterns. They were still beautifully and artfully done.

That's not a good reason because the lantern sequence could have been kept in CG even if the rest of the movie was hand-drawn. Disney has integrated CG elements in their past hand-dawn films quite successfully.
Yes! People apparently chose to forget things like BatB's ballroom sequence (which, 20 years later, is still running circles around Tangled's love scene), Lion King's stampede and Mulan's Hun horde.

They were impressive, though not exactly the second coming many were raving about. Not even in 3D.
