Which is true.
Very true.

Merida's nice though.

Duster, I'll have a response for you tomorrow or something. I'm too tired right now. Just know that you're insane.

Debate an opinion all you want, that's fine, but it is not your place or your entitlement to dismiss an opinion out of hand if it doesn't comply with your own. In my own experience, the problem I have with you is that you genuinely seem to believe that your opinions are facts and that the rest of us don't know anything or what we think is irrelevent. You just have to learn to be a little more accepting of other people's opinions and not take it upon yourself to try and educate us in your opinions; that is not what this forum is for.
DisneyDuster wrote:And I am going to keep trying to write and explain why I think what I think is right, and I welcome anyone to disagree and debate with me, because then maybe we'll get somewhere instead of just saying something is someone's opinion so we'll let it go.
What is that you can't grasp about an opinion? Why does it affect you so much if someone's opinion does not correspond with you own? No one wants you to stop expressing your own opinions but in turn, you can't take issue with others who do the same. It goes without saying that you're obviously passionate about Disney but that is not an excuse to disregard what other people think and take it upon yourself to try and educate them; this forum is called UltimateDisney not UltimateDisneyDuster.

Back to the topic, I really like the design for Princess Merida, though I can see why it's dividing opinion at the moment; I think Pixar have carved a niche for themselves in the way they design human characters and that's continuing with Brave. Out of interest, has there been any indication who will be the villain in the film?

I also fall into the group that really likes her design. It's unique and well-animated and I'm sure it will fit her character perfectly. I see absolutely nothing wrong with the way she looks.

Lol!

The shape of the face takes some getting used to (it kind of reminds me of Mirage's, from "The Incredibles"), but it works perfectly in combination with her luscious locks. Gorgeous hair. She's very cute in the face too.

Yeah. The people we have wet dreams about are only about two percent of the population at most.

And for some reason, that ET/Merida pic scares me. :P

New article about the movie that clarifies the plot a bit more:

So, this is going to be "Mother Bear". Lol.

On a side note, they do confirm that John Ratzenberger is in this.

She is at odds with her controlling but loving parents King Fergus (Billy Connolly) and Queen Elinor (Emma Thompson) and gets in trouble with some magic which has consequences for the whole kingdom.

Mark said: "It's all about the relationship between a mother and daughter, and how this young woman has problems with her mother.

"When she has a problem with her mother over marriage, she gets a magic spell to try to stop her mother bothering her with the suitor business.

"But it actually changes her mother into a bear."

You've got to be kidding me.

But of course, they'll never admit that Brother Bear was a source of "inspiration" despite the apparent similarities.

Hey didn't Steve Jobs public diss Brother Bear along with Treasure Planet and Lion King 1 1/2 "as embarrassing"? Hope this got past his nose.

Anyway, maybe it won't be all that similar and it sounds like the way it's done might be better too.

Like I said, Pixar is losing its originality. This is a female version of Brother Bear pretty much. -____-

But, hey this still looks cool though! :) I'm taking from the trailer that Merida accidentely shots her mom???

Why not wait until the film is released before passing judgement on it? Considering Pixar cancelled Newt because of the similarities to Rio, would they really push ahead with a film that was a mirror image of a Disney feature?

No, Pixar usually just push ahead with films that are mirror images of their own back catalogue. ;)

Fair point  I just think with the reaction Cars 2 has gotten, everyone seems to be crying out for an original project and this is one so I'm optimistic for it; the artwork looks amazing, the voice cast is good and the trailer has left me wanting to see more.

According to Wikipedia, Julie Walters is playing a witch antagonist.

It was never stated that that was the reason. Also, I have a feeling Newt will eventually be retooled and released.

It was. This is what John Lasseter said regarding Newt: "It's story was very similar to a movie that's out in theaters right now with a blue parrot. Oh my! Wow, we were like… great minds think alike, I guess. It was really pretty similar." Here's the link.

http://pixarblog.blogspot.com/2011/05/l ... n-for.html

In the same interview, he does say that there are several projects on the shelf at Pixar, including Newt, that could be revisited one day so we could eventually see the film.

It lists her as Wise Woman as well as a witch so I wasn't sure but I assumed she would be the villain as well. I hope that's the case anyway, I think she would make a great villain.

I did but I personally don't think it's a coincidence. Perhaps I'm wrong but Pixar were obviously aware of the similarities and I think that that might have played a part in the decision to cancel Newt. I could be completely wrong but from the statement, I think Pixar were surprised at just how similar the films were which might have changed their minds had they been planning on pushing ahead with Newt like they did when DreamWorks released Antz at the same time as A Bug's Life. I'm going by what I've seen on various forums and blogs as well as that interview so I can't claim to know anything for definite but who knows, maybe one day soon we'll see Newt.

Her mother turns into a bear? My God.

So is Pixar (instead of ripping of its own films) now ripping off a Disney film that pretty much ripped off every previous Disney film?

I hope there's a whooooole lot more to this plot.
