Disney's "The Snow Queen" in 2013?

Good gravy. I'm Catholic, and yet I don't see how voodoo in a movie is a problem. If anyone needs to be smacked upside the head, it's those people who take things so seriously. Because religious people can be total morons.

And besides, there's tons of kids' movies and TV shows w/ voodoo like Lilo and Stitch (The My friends have to be punished! line) and the Pirates of the Carribean movies.

Sotiris posted an interview with Andreas Deja earlier in which he stated that he took leave from Disney after their next hand-drawn animated film which was to have been Snow Queen was cancelled after production on the Pooh film ended. So unless the film has gone back to "developmental hell" it looks like the Snow Queen is dead at Disney for the time being.

^Well, hopefully they won't spend almost an entire decade, making it more expensive than Tangled did. And look at the latter; that's been in development since God knows how long, and that cost a total of $260 million to make.

I'm sure it'll be revived as a 3D film in a few years and everyone'll be like, "There’s no way they could've made the ice cicles look this good in 2D!"

So true. I don't mind it being in 3D, but it would still be good in 2D. I'm not really fussed about medium.

I'd rather it be made in 2D, but there is a point where I just want them to finally make it, even if it's CG.

I can remember reading an interview with Don Hahn where he was asked whether Snow Queen would ever be made. His answer was that it could happen and noted that the very first work on Beauty and the Beast and Little Mermaid began at Disney in the late-1930's. Considering it took another half a century before we saw those two films, I'm not holding out hope for Snow Queen any time soon.

After some thought, I've decided that, if this isn't shelved, I would prefer for it to be in 2D. I'm not opposed to 3D, but there seem to be virtually no 2D projects in the works at the moment. I guess that it will be 3D as thats the medium that will always make more money these days. The Snow Queen would look beautiful in 3D, but we've already had a beautiful 3D film with Tangled and we're getting another with Brave. It's such a shame that the 3D > 2D mindset the choc top licking crowds have at the moment is making it illogical to use 3D for big budget films

I'm sorry to rant, but it really upsets me.

Why dont we try 2D with 3D glasses and see if that works. The re-release of Lion King may assist in creating this kind of transition. 2D films with the 3D mapping always look amazing and could help raise the thrill factor of 2D for the wider audience. Just a thought

I kind of wanted this movie because I wanted a 2D movie, to be honest. I've never read the book so I'm not hard up for an adaptation, I just really miss 2D.

I think most of us do. I do, in all honesty, think that hand drawn animation has reached it's full potential, but that doesn't change how much charm it has. It's the same with claymation.

As for Disney, it's even more absurd. Rebooting ancient, lackluster franchises like the Muppets isn't enough, it keeps scraping around in its own crypt trying to resurrect stuff like Pooh and Tron. I mean, what the hell? Is the management up there THAT fearful? Why isn't it greenlighting something with potential, like the Snow Queen movie or a film based on Epic Mickey, which had one of the best stories Disney's ever produced?

WDAS didn't make Tron or Muppets. And last I heard Snow Queen was still being made?

Q: What’s next for Claire Keane? Anything exciting you can share with us?

Claire Keane: I am hoping someday to find the time to work on my own personal project. As for right now though, I’m having a lot of fun working with some wonderful people: Chris Buck (director of Tarzan and Surf’s Up) and Mike Giaimo (art director of Pocahontas) on a really fun and whimsical film. Mike has such a bold personal style and I am so excited to help get that style onto the screen.

Okay, really. I thought the whole movie getting produced in a certain medium wasn't the deciding factor. Just because Tangled (a CG film) did better financially than Princess and the Frog did (a hand-drawn film, even though it did manage to recoup most of its budget, without the inclusion of DVD/Blu-ray sales) shouldn't really mean they should do their next film in the medium that did better.

No offense, but to me, that's like unfairly favoring one of your two kids and acting like the other shouldn't get as much credit/love for anything.

And by the way, to those who liked PatF at first, but then hated it after Tangled came out...

You're total hypocrites. Or whatever the word is...

Sotiris has posted information in other threads that suggests the Ron Clements and John Musker are pitching hand-drawn features and that the management at Disney remain supportive of the medium so we could yet see another hand-drawn feature from Disney.

And, to be completely honest, I'm starting to hope Disney never lays eyes on stories I enjoy again, if the only option is to have them all turned into 3D films. Clearly, the "story" problems and "no more princesses!" were just BS excuses to do exactly what they did with Rapunzel. Very supportive of the medium, I'm sure.

I know that but after the seemingly endless stories of animators leaving and hand-drawn films being cancelled or delayed, it's good to hear that there is still some desire at Disney to continue with hand-drawn animation. This could all come to nothing but if they're pitching stories and still working on new projects, the medium might have a future.
