Do you realise how pathetic that sounds? It's almost as pathetic as saying that you hope that John Lasseter is hit by a bus because Tangled didn't get nominated for an Oscar.DisneyJedi wrote:He just HAD to run the company into the ground! We're not going to Guam, are we?
Quit being overdramatic. You find a reason to complain about this whole hand drawn thing every chance you can.DisneyJedi wrote:Ugh. Thanks a lot, Disney!
Talk about screwing us over. AGAIN!!! Really, Disney, if you're gonna promise something, go through on it! If you can't do that, DON'T promise anything!!!
Let's face it; they don't care anything about 2D animation. All they care about is making money, and it's all Michael 'Scrooge' Eisner's fault! If he hadn't gone and come up with the DTV sequels, then 2D animation wouldn't be dying and Disney wouldn't have become cheapskates! But NOOO!!!!! He just HAD to run the company into the ground! It's his fault the company is in ruins and I hope that he gets a fatal disease or something!
Also, what does all of what you just said have to do with Dejas (or a few other animators) leaving? We cant be certain it was Disney's fault for these animators leaving anyway..
First of all, when did Disney ever promise us anything? Lasseter may be supposedly in support of hand drawn animation, but when was anything promised to us? Second of all, the DTVs were not the cause of the fall of 2D animation. Like Estefan, and several other members have stated before, Disney is in it to make a profit. 3D animation seems to be more profitable at the moment. "All they care about is money." Which business doesn't? As much as you'd like for Disney to put other things before making a profit, it isn't going to happen.
Let me just tell you, I am just as much a fan of hand drawn animation as you are, and I'd love for Disney to return to this medium in their films more often. The difference between you and I, however, is that I understand the fact that Disney's first priority is profit, just like any other business. They also are about growth and discovering new ways of storytelling. And as much as you want to deny it, there are still people at Disney who care about quality.
And now your wishing death upon a man because your not getting your way. How nice.
And Duster...

Michael Eisner did actually almost die when at Disney, he had to undergo a triple bypass heart operation. True, he left the company in a bad way but he did some good things in his tenure as well. I'm by no means a fan of him but to wish death upon him because you're not happy with something at the company is immature and petty.
We're not going to Guam, are we?
I think it's clear Disney is capable of creating quality films with Tangled. Of course, that was in 3D animation, but it was also one of the best films Disney has made in years. Also, I don't understand your reasoning behind why you say it's Eisner's fault that Disney is supposedly in ruin. And in what way is Disney "in ruin?" You haven't given any reasons why you believe these things.DisneyJedi wrote:No, I'm not wishing death on a man because I'm not getting my way. I'm no fan of Eisner either, but like DisneyAnimation said, wishing death upon him is uncalled for.

Who knows, there could be an animator at Disney who will pitch an idea tomorrow that will become a hand-drawn film, we don't know. But at the end of the day, the medium is suffering because at some point, audiences stopped going to cinemas to watch them, it's not the fault of one individual. It's easier said than done but Disney need that one film that will reignite hand-drawn animation at the company, just like The Little Mermaid did, so don't take the matter so seriously and wait like the rest of us have to, it's impossible to predict what could happen at Disney animation in the next year or two.

I recall yesterday someone was warned for telling Duster to "shut up". Could someone warn Jedi now? I find this incredibly disturbing. I hated Eisner's policy, but I never wished death upon the man. That is beyond nauseating.
I've enjoyed this forum for many years, but this is simply among the most disturbing things I've read on here. And he's been doing this for a while now.

at least he'd have some 2d animation doses to inject into him with absent of 2D dIZnEy Moooooo-V. I'll say some of em are way better than a lot of the Disney movies I've seen.

Nah it could be done. volumes of hair can be done well in 2D. It just that Disney felt it would be a lot more work. Computers just makes everything easier.Mmmadelon wrote:Like with Rapunzel, I don't think the movie would have looked so good when it would have been done in 2D, with all the hair and stuff.

Yeah, the second biggest media corporation is obviously in ruins. True, it's become splintered. True, they've lost something genuine.....that hasn't been part of the studio since the 50s, and they may have a few too many companies in their ownership.DisneyJedi wrote:No, I'm not wishing death on a man because I'm not getting my way. Just because your preferred medium has been cut back doesnt mean the entire company's in shambles.
So yeah, you *are* wishing death on a man because you dont have your own way.
And before you get defensive, remember most of us love 2D as well and we're vocal about it. the general, money-holding public, however.
And that brings me to another point: it's Disney's job to make money. It's their job to make movies and entertainment, and they cant do that without money.

It's just a very different style of animation and design. I like a lot of anime series and movies and there are some really good ones out there but despite that I still miss Western hand-drawn animation. It's just different; that doesn't mean it's better or worse.Super Aurora wrote:Why do you say that?

I truly think that if Tangled were hand-drawn animated, it would have been far more amazing. Just look at those designs, sketches and poses in the 'Art of' book. They just do not translate as well in CG.Super Aurora wrote:Nah, it could be done. Volumes of hair can be done well in 2D. It just that Disney felt it would be a lot more work. Regarding the hair, it would be far easier to animate them in 2D. Look at some Disney heroines with long and rich hair like Ariel, Pocahontas or Esmeralda. They look great. Obviously they don't have as long hair as Rapunzel but they could still have made it work pretty nicely.
It is CG hair that is really difficult to manage. The issues they had with CG hair were emphasised in nearly all of the featurettes and videos they had released to promote the film. But of course they had to work out all of the issues and make the hair work in CG since this was a CG movie.
Yeah, I was always pretty vocal about my detest of Eisner, even joined Roy in his campaign to get him out of there. But I never wished him ill (or even worse, death)PatrickvD wrote:You are disturbed. You know this, right?

I think anyone wishing any public figure like John dead should watch this video.
Its about Steve Jobs when it was rumored that he was about to die, but it very much applies here too and illustrates my point far better than I could. Its a bit long but I hope Jedi and other like minded people reading this will watch to understand how messed up this way of thinking really is.

Look, I'm sorry. A lot of crap has been going on in my life lately.
My dad had to go through surgery and get the tips of his fingers cut off when he got them caught in a roller at his job, a family friend of mine had a seizure on the bus, and my grandmother's in the hospital and her days could be numbered, even if I'm praying long and hard that she'll be all right. And this news about Snow Queen being canceled was kind of, for me, the straw that broke the camel's back.
Seriously, my life outside the Internet has been pretty miserable lately, and I've unwillingly been taking it out on my life here.

I'm sorry to hear that and I'm sorry if I seemed harsh earlier, I just thought your comment was unecessary but if your going through a lot of personal stuff perhaps you should avoid those threads on the forum that are having such an adverse effect on you until you feel better.

I think it’s funny that people are saying “be patient,” etc. That’s kind of pointless. Even Deja can see the writing on the wall. Disney’s very likely not going to be doing 2D anymore except as cheap stuff, or maybe the off film every decade or so now.

Listening to most often lately:
Christina Aguilera ~ "Cruz"
Sombr ~ "homewrecker"
Megan Moroney ~ "Beautiful Things"
