Dick Tracy Coming to Blu-Ray December 11, 2012
As some of you may be aware, the hit 1990 Warren Beatty/Disney/Touchstone adaptation of the Chester Gould comic book series Dick Tracy is coming to DVD on December 11, 2012, just 48 hours after my birthday.
With this in mind, I saw 2 YouTube trailers ripped from TV of Dick Tracy: the first one, linked at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_9q4MPUNgiM is for theaters that released Dick Tracy under Walt Disney Pictures, while the 2nd one, linked at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9mZrfO2JFd0 is for theaters that released Dick Tracy under Touchstone Pictures.
I personally would LOVE it if there were 2 versions of Dick Tracy included on the Blu-Ray release: the Touchstone version that was ultimately released on VHS and DVD everywhere, and the Disney version that several theaters released theatrically at the time of its June 15, 1990 theatrical release.

Walt Disney Pictures: Dick Tracy
Hi everyone.
My sincerest apologies for having been away for most of this Summer, but Ive had an awfully busy one.
What I wanted to discuss was the hit 1990 Disney version of Dick Tracy.
Personally, I loved the movie, but in recent years, I discovered that 2 versions of the film exist (3 if you count the 2 hr 15 minute version its writer/director Warren Beatty confirmed exist): the original version released by Walt Disney Pictures and the alternate version released by Touchstone Pictures.
Both versions were released theatrically in the U.S. on June 15, 1990.
This TV ad at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9mZrfO2JFd0 is for the Touchstone version.
This OTHER TV ad at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_9q4MPUNgiM is for the Disney version.
The Touchstone version is the most common version, as released on VHS on December 19, 1990 from Touchstone Home Video, on DVD on April 2, 2002 and most recently on Blu-Ray on December 11, 2012.
Since this discovery, Ive always wondered if Disney archivist Dave Smith STILL has the Disney version somewhere in the Disney vault; if so, perhaps Disney could release a DVD titled Dick Tracy: Nearly 25th Anniversary Edition, showcasing all 3 versions of the movie--Disney, Touchstone and 2 hr 15 versions--on a 2-disc special edition DVD, along with a direct-to-DVD featurette hosted by Warren Beatty showcasing how he adapted Dick Tracy for The Walt Disney Company.

Re: Walt Disney Pictures: Dick Tracy
I thought Beatty said the opposite about the Director's Cut. It was only ever mentioned in IMDB anyway.
Was there really any difference between the Touchstone and Disney versions beyond the opening logo?

Re: Walt Disney Pictures: Dick Tracy
Sorry, not gonna happen.
Warren Beatty has made it very clear that he hates supplements and wants to contribute nothing to this.
Also, other, more successful, Disney-related films like Dead Poets Society and Scream have had alternate, and IMHO, better cuts released on LaserDisc through Image Entertainment and Disney refused to put them on DVD or blu-ray. So, why would they do it for a film that probably made more money for McDonalds than Disney?
