Anyone think there is any chance we'll ever see another new Don Bluth film? His last, Titan A.E. in 2000, was a commercial flop, but I'd be interested in seeing something else from him. He's 73 now though, so I am not sure how active he would want to be in another production.
I'd read somewhere recently that due to the suprising sales of Anastasia on Blu-ray, studios were expressing interest in him directing another film. I'm not sure where I saw that, it might have been Wikipedia, and you know how that goes...

Although Bluth didn't do it, I feel the same way about Swan Lake. Disney decided it was too similar to The Little Mermaid, so they threw it in the bin, and Columbia Tristar got it out (with bad results IMHO) I would love to have seen Disney's version of it
Moving on to the main topic. I can't see Bluth doing Beauty & The Beast as well as Disney did. His Beauty doesn't look as brave as Belle, and in my opinion all his films apart from The Secret of Nimh, and Anastasia were mediocre, and his animation style is simply too angular for my liking. It's certainly interesting to learn that he had plans for this though.

Though it kind of gives off a Thumbelina-vibe (in the sense that it suffers from the typical Bluth sweetness-overload - I swear, those butterflies are diabetes-inducing), I would have loved to see this made. Thanks for posting, Sotiris!

I agree. Too many characters who are only there for cute points. Two or three are quite enough.

I don't know, I always thought "Titan A.E." was a strong film and a fantastic sci-fi adventure. It's just that for some reason it failed to find its audience during its initial release, much like Disney's own forays into the genre ("Atlantis: The Lost Empire" and "Treasure Planet", both great movies, IMO). But yes, I'd love to see Bluth make another film, and hand-drawn at that.
I have Titan on DVD but haven't finished it. I mostly meant everyone always prefaces discussing it by referencing how it flopped, was not a critical success.
Fans often love movies more than the box office / critics.
I mean he should come out with another movie that is widely loved like Anastasia. To this day in college my friends watch it as much as any Disney movie (and many falsely assume it is a Disney movie.)

Give it a try some time. It truly is a spectacular film. And even though some critics disliked it originally, I distinctly remember "Titan A.E." being an 'it' film of the season back when it was first released on video/DVD - everybody raved about how entertaining and creative it was, with some reviewers comparing it to "Star Wars" in terms of enjoyment factor.
This summer I intend to systematically watch a lot of the movies that have been collecting dust on my shelves over the years, so that one will be included.
I have heard that Don Bluth wants to do a Dragon's Lair movie based on the arcade game. He did the animation for Dragon's Lair I , Dragons Lair II , and Space Ace.
