Peter Pan vs Alice in Wonderland

In that way, I was just always unsatisfied by the move into these other worlds, because they were never that amazing/interesting to me. Wonderland is definitely more interesting than Neverland (trampy mermaids or no), but not enough so to maintain my interest for the whole film. With Wonderland, I often feel just like Alice--frustrated. Which I guess is what they wanted me to feel--but that's not an emotion I enjoy. :lol:

I understand what you mean. I never found them to be that great either. But I guess it makes it easier for the characters to want to go home since they both suck lol.

I like them both, but I'd give the edge to Peter Pan.

Hi this is my first post :wave:

On the subject of the thread, I definately prefer Alice in Wonderland.

Peter Pan hasn't aged well IMHO. Vitually every Female character (save for Tiger Lily) makes me shudder, and don't get me started on the Indians :headshake:

Alice holds up better, and I perfer the Queen of Hearts to Captain Hook. You can't take her much more seriously, but at least she's a laugh, and she doesn't stop Alice from being sympathetic. I also love how fast paced Alice tends to be.

I prefer Pan's look, though. Nothing beats the look of that lagoon for me. If only the mermaids weren't complete skanks :roll:

Oh my gosh - so hard to pick. They are both favorites of mine.

I have to give it to Peter, though. Never growing up - what better fantasy is there than that? And Peter Pan is always the ride I go on first at Disneyland - it's much more nostalgic to me than the Alice ride. And of course I love Tinkerbell too.

If I had to choose between reading the two classic novels though? Alice would win out every time. I find it a much more interesting read.

Thanks for going so in-depth, previous posters. I agree with a lot that was said, and it was better written than I could have ever done. I find these threads interesting.

Alice In Wonderland. While both are very good films, Pan irks me, and that takes some of the enjoyment out of the film. The story of Alice in Wonderland has really grown on me in the past few years, and Peter Pan has lessened. To me, the characters in Alice are much more interesting, and I adore the Mad Hatter and Dodo bird. Alice's Very Good Advice is so emotional, and I've always had a soft spot for The Mad Tea Party.

But the Indians are the best part of the movie! I love that wonderful cartoony part, where everything goes crazy! I know it's not PC, but I don't think they were meant to be 'real'. Remember that Neverland is a place from a young boy's imaginations, and the Indians look and behave the way young boys who are 'playing cowboy' think they look and behave. So in a certain way, it's perfectly done!

The Indians are actually my favourite part of the film.


I'll admit that I probably find the Indians as jarring as I do because I wasn't a child when I first saw Peter Pan. The crows from Dumbo (which I first saw as a child) don't make me squirm as much.

Thanks for the welcome :ears:

On topic, I guess whether we go :shock: or just :| at a certain politically incorrect characterisation is a subjective thing, which is affected, not by our views, but by our feelings about the non racial aspects of what we are seeing.

Does that make sense? It was difficult to put into words.

I totally have Peter Pan as # 1! The story is excellent as well as the animation. Only thing that gets me is that John Darling (my favorite character) should have had more air time. Also, Peter Pan is one I love so much, I made a TV series out of it plus plenty of movies.

As for books, I like the Peter Pan book but the movie is better because it's Disneyesque. The characters in the movie are better and it's quite original, because in the book, you didn't see Peter promoting John as leader of the Lost Boys, nor was there mention of the boys being captured by Indians and having a big party.

Peter Pan 1953 I give 4 stars! Also, I'm sure it was to begin with because it was an immediate success and one of Disney's greatest animated achievements, plus it was a satisfactory picture.
