Wonder which version of WWHTW was used for 16mm, non-widescreen distribution? Seems like early Disney Channel and VHS masters often sourced the 16mm vaults and TV prints (because they were handy?) for these lower profile titles.

Once this is sorted out I'm going to mention this to Leonard Maltin. Maybe he can get their attention. However, my experience with Disney is that with this DVD just out they're highly unlikely to do a new version anytime soon.
Thanks for all the information, Bill! I really hope that when this gets to Leonard Maltin that he can influence Disney to actually do something about it.

It seems like they are reusing old VHS masters which means it will probably be paired with the likes of:

Mosby's Marauders (European theatrical cut)
Tiger Town
Charlie and the Angel
or even
Sammy the Way out Seal (European theatrical cut)

My hope would be for "Waltz King"

Thanks for telling us about this! I checked this VHS from a Family Video Store about four years ago. The main actor, Jeff East, portrayed the title character in the Sherman Brothers' "Huckleberry Finn."

He was also the young Clark Kent in "Superman the Movie"

I'd go for those, plus The Light in the Forest, Escapade in Florence, The Horsemasters, Johnny Shiloh, The Sign of Zorro and The Prince and the Pauper.

You just earned major brownie points Disneyfella, as I have said before I absolutely love The Waltz King one of my all time favorites. But I must admit if we don't see the Waltz King wouldn't mind seeing Charley and the Angel released one of my all time favorites granted it was a bit mis casted Cloris Leachman was far to young and just didn't have that great of chemistry with Fred MacMurray but then even in real life Fred liked his ladies to be younger. I mean his beloved wife of 37 years until his death the underrated actress June Haver was 18 years his junior.

I'm thinking we are going to see something like
"Return of the Big Cat" starring Kim Richards...
Where's the rest of Elfego Baca and the Swamp Fox?

I actually have Return of the Big Cat. It's okay, but if we're going to get a Kim Richards movie, I think we should get both of the Whiz Kids movies (Mystery of Riverton and Carnival Caper). They are hilarious!

Obviously, any vintage Disney is exciting to see released, though.

It seems odd that only Flight of the Grey Wolf would be released on May 3. DMC usually releases two exclusives at a time. Is there much precedent for a single release, or do you guys think that there will be a companion?

i think there will definitely be a companion we just havn't heard any word on what exactly its going to be yet. For instance when Almost Angels/Sword and the Rose came out on the Disney Movie Club it had advertised ALmost Angels for a little while on the Disney Movie Rewards site but no word about sword and the rose.

What I would really like to see them do through exclusives is make 2 volumes of Swamp Fox, 2 volumes of Elfego Baca, and 4 volumes of Texas John Slaughter...

Of course, the source would something they found in one of their interns old super 8 films.

Seriously though, I think we are going to get something animal related as a companion piece. And something from a similar era.

I'm gonna go with "Smoke".

Smoke would be nice, it was a cute vehicle Ronnie Howard was good as always. Jacqueline Scott and Earl Holliman were great as his mom and step dad in the film as well.

You can submit feedback for DVD releases here. Hopefully everyone will let them know about the disaster that is Westward Ho the Wagons...
