This thread is the anti-Celebcompoop thread, hence it being called "Celebrities We Like". The crush thread can be used for crushes and "OMG, she's hawt!" comments. ;)

Ha, Super A. could fill that thread single-handedly! But I don't know if it's a good idea to revive a thread that has died over 3 years ago...

@ pap64: yeah, I know what you mean. That's why I inititially had a hard time coming up with some names. I just try to base my judgement on what celebirities say and do, but usually I don't care much. I actually even hate the word 'celebrity'.

Wow, that's so cool. And here I was thinking I was bothering all of you with my spamming of those videos. :P

Maher's 'New Rules' is the best segment of the show, but I also like his stand-up bit at the beginning, and I always enjoy interviews and guest appereances he does on other shows. He has a way to 'shock' the audience and at least get a few hisses, boo-ing or "oooow"-s every time and he doesn't care. He once said he likes that, because that's how he knows he's not playing it safe and his way of looking at things is still relevant.

Do you also like Jon Stewart? Or George Carlin? (Who should have been the first person to be mentioned by me.) I still miss Carlin; it was a real shock when I heard he had passed away. I think I've learned more from Carlin than I have from anybody else. Maybe I exaggerate a bit, but he definitly changed my way of thinking profoundly, especially on religion. It's true that a joke sometimes can make things more clear than a thousand words.

I forgot about that part, which I enjoy too. The inertviews/discussions I admittedly skim thorugh. They can be fun for the reasons you've mentioned, but sometimes the bickering (especially by conservatives) between panel members can get annoying. Thankfully Bill knows when to stop it and continue onto the next topic.

Well I watch Daily Show, so of course I like Jon Stewart. Carlin I'm not as familiar with. I've seen some of his stand-up which is good, but funny enough my introduction years ago to him was Thomas the Tank Engine and Shining Time Station. Imagine me years later finding out what else Mr. Conductor did!

Which is why my favorite US "news source" is The Daily Show. :D

Lol, Mark- Bob Dylan was totally in my dream last night! Haha...

Obviously Corbin Bleu is my #1 answer, but Hanson, Jonas Brothers, and Mandy Moore are on that list. And Britney Spears and Backstreet Boys and etc etc etc for all the teen pop people of that era.

I just read that Corbin might be a judge on the American X-Factor!!!! And recently he was in Orlando shooting a movie, but I never saw him. :( :( :( One day in my parking lot, there was someone who, you know, from the side of my eye or whatever, reminded me of him, and I got excited, but it totally wasn't him. :p

I like Amy Adams and I used to like Nicole Kidman a lot, even though I've been sort of indifferent about her more recently. I still like it when, once every few months, a stranger tells me I look like her even though I know it's not true.

My all-time favorite celebrity will always be Audrey Hepburn. (Are we counting non-living?)

Good to see you're back on UD! I'm sure I speak for all when I say we miss you. :)

@ pinkrenata: Hmmm... I would need photos to judge.

Hmm.. if I would list celebrities I like based on looks, like Avaitor did, I'd still be here tomorrow. :P

Do politicians count as 'celebrities' as well? There are not much I like (it's politics after all), but there are some...

Sorry for bumping this old thread, but I just realized a celebrity I like...

Johnny Depp.

Image

First off, I think he is a very talented actor. He might also be one of the best character actors this generation, alongside the likes of Ron Perlman. While he does tend to play the role of the outcast character a lot, he brings a new spin to each character and makes them uniquely his. You can't compare, say, Willie Wonka to Jack Sparrow, or Hunter S. Thompson to Ed Wood. Each character is wildly different, and Depp knows how to get the most out of them.

Outside of talent, Depp seems to be a genuinely good guy. I may be in the wrong here, but I've read about how he hates red carpet premieres because he feels they are fake, and he never seems to let all of this go to the top of his head.

I mean, nearly every movie he stars in ends up becoming a MAJOR box office hit (not all of them, but his biggest ones). Guys want to be like him, girls want to be with him. He is making mad money and is always working on something. You would think that with all of this he would either go mad with power or become the king of the douchebags. But no, he is always calm, cool, collected and real. That's something really worthy of admiration. I mean you have actors who star in one big movie and all of a sudden think they can do whatever the hell they want and be big jerks. Note that I may be wrong about Depp since I never met him, but he really does seem to be a down to Earth guy that hasn't let fame and fortune go to his head.

Then he does stuff like this...
<iframe width="425" height="349" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/rHiB0z2ulf8" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

To the cynical, he is doing this to raise awareness of the new movie (which at the time he was still doing). But to me, he did this because he cares and enjoyed every minute of it. He made a lot of children smile that day, and that's something I see Depp doing.

So there you go, I did find a celebrity I liked :p
