StitchKingdom.com wrote:As we were the first to announce an October 4, 2011 release date for the Walt Disney Animation Studios classic The Lion King on Disney 3D Blu-ray and 8-disc trilogy, we now have additional details on what you’ll be able to find on the collection in the way of bonus features.

We have confirmation that The Lion King will support Disney’s Second Screen technology which allows viewers to use their home computer/laptop or Apple iPad and a free app to view bonus content in sync along with the film. The technology has previously been offered with the blu-ray releases of Bambi and TRON: Legacy. At this time, we do not know if there will be any exclusives on the 3D Blu-ray disc but we will update this article as more information becomes available.

In addition to Second Screen support, the 2D Blu-ray disc contains:

Pride of the Lion King
The Lion King: A Memoir ? Don Hahn
Bloopers and Outtakes
Deleted and Alternate Scenes and Song
The Morning Report (Extended Scene)
Disney Sing Along Mode
Interactive Blu-ray Gallery
Disney’s Virtual Vault — DVD Legacy Bonus

The DVD edition will contain only the bloopers and outtakes.

I hope "Pride of the Lion King" is a lengthy documentary. And I wonder what the "bloopers" and "outtakes" are?? :?

I think those will be newly animated Timon and Pumba's fart jokes pretending they were "filming" the movie

Hate to nag, but any news on sequel releases?
Man has a dream
And that's the start
He follows his dream
With mind and heart
And when it becomes a reality
It's a dream come true
For you and me!

I hate when they pretend sing-along mode is a bonus. It's just subtitles.

I hate that the classic DVD bonuses are on virtual vault, because Australia doesn't offer that feature. I feel like I'm getting a barebones BD. Although I didn't mind that for Fantasia (I got two movies after all), I can't say the same for TLK.

Disney's logic is confusing. They do a virtual vault for Fantasia/Fantasia 2000, allow the classic DVD features to be accessed on disc for Alice and Bambi, then go back to the virtual vault for Lion King. Huh? Where they do draw the line over what's downloaded and what's not? And if Fantasia's any indication, the classic DVD features will probably be on the disc, anyway, but only viewable rapidly and in fullscreen via a computer with a BD-ROM drive. Try figuring that one out.

Hopefully they'll at least give us additional deleted scenes from the laserdisc that didn't make it to DVD.

And this is why I'm going to be holding on to all my old PE DVDs. I'm so sick of the virtual vault.

^agreed. In theory, it works, but in practice........I just went and bought the Fantasia: Legacy disc on it's own after spending some time in the vault.

I quite like the idea of BD-Live so that there's room for more HD bonus features but I've heard that the bonus features that were on the Fantasia BD-Live were actually on the disc but inaccessible. That's stupid obviously, making customers wait for a tiny screen when the file is on the disc anyway.

You have to admit, it does keep us guessing with every release. ;)

I'm guessing if it's expected to be a big big seller, they'll Virtual Vault it so that more people will try and use BD-Live. If it's a lesser title (even a "lesser" Diamond), they'll just include it as an on-disc supplement.

Kelvin already pointed it out a few posts above, and it's even mentioned in UD's Fantasia Blu-Ray review.

The second screen feature is also crap, why not to make it a regular, simple, easier picture in picture feature?

So this Edition (yeah, diamond my ass) will practically just have the movie and two or three not so interesting features ala 'Tangled'??? Thank God I have the Platinum Edition!!!

Just remember the Virtual Vault doesnt contain downloads, it contains streams. Downloads, you only have to wait once; Streaming; every time.

and the second screen feature has a shitload even if it's just the code-free preview.

So did Morning Report get demoted to extra and they aren't doing that edition on the Blu-Ray?

Also, annoyed with the Virtual Vault crap.

One can only hope.

I wonder. Has Disney made any press-release regarding whether this is the original theatrical version or not (sorry to open that can of worms but I think it's the elephant in the room right now).

I hope we get the original animation and not the re-animated segments. Hopefully they learned from last release.

But now they can use seamless branching.

I wouldn't rule it out, though. A stupid thing they did for the Special Edition/IMAX version of the film was give baby Simba a long, swinging tail in the big money shot for "Circle of Life." It was annoying because: a) baby lions don't have tails like that, and b) they only changed it for that ONE shot, causing a big continuity error with all the other shots of baby Simba. Yet I didn't hear a whole lot of uproar over it.

However, on the HD trailer for the Diamond Edition, Simba's tail is short again in that shot. So I think we'll have another Beauty and the Beast situation where at least most of the major changes will be restored to their original form for the theatrical cut.
