"The Voice" Official Discussion Thread............

Post by dvdjunkie »

Tonight is the night that many people are waiting for as NBC unveils its new talent search program called "The Voice".

Hosted by Carson Daly, this program is based on the popular European television show "The Voice of Holland". It will feature four coaches who will blindly pick eight contestants for their team. They will then coach them and prepare for the Battle division of the game and the survivors will then face each other in a 'Live Showdown' to pick the ultimate winner The Voice, who wins a recording contract and $100,000.

Tonight the Blind Auditions start and the coaches this season will be Adam Levine, Cee Lo Green, Blake Shelton and Christina Aguilera.

The two-hour season premier of the NBC show "The Voice" is tonight at 9 pm Eastern, 8 Central.

My thoughts on this are that it will be unique in the fact that the coaches will not get to see their prospective team member, but will choose them only by voice and voice alone. When they are chosen then the contestant will be revealed to the coach or coaches who pick them. If more than one coach picks the person, they get to chose which coach they want to be with for the duration of the contest. Sounds like this will be a very interesting program and I am looking forward to watching this show.

This thing was huge here in Holland.

I loved the audition round. It's the best part. After that it quickly became bland. But who knows, Christina might get drunk live on the air. Could be fun! :)

Before I give you my take on last night's show, want to let all of you "Gleeks" know that the first night of "The Voice" is being repeated tonight on NBC, check your local station for time. And those of you who "must" watch "Glee", set your DVR to record "The Voice", because it is going to be on Tuesday nights throughout its run.

Wow!! All I can say about this show is look out "American Idol", you definitely have some competittion with this show. The producers of this show have gotten it right, first time out, in my opinion.

Adam Levine, Blake Shelton, Cee Lo Brown, and Christina Aguilera each picked their first three team members of the eight they will be allowed to have. Then things get really interesting when the "Battle" rounds take place and the teams get narrowed down to four members each. It will then be up to the American viewing audiences to help pick the next "Voice", for which the winner will receive a recording contract and $100,000 in their pocket.

I really like the idea that the coaches don't see who is singing until they push their button which turns their chair around and they can put a face with the voice. It is a unique way to judge the talent by voice alone and not how they look. From there the coaches will have time to work with their team members to present themselves to the viewing audience after what is going to be a lot of fun, picking the first eight team members for each judge.

Way to go NBC, bringing us a very remarkable show that gets its roots from Europe with "The Voice of Holland". If the next weeks are any thing like this week, we are in for a really great show and I hope that Simon Cowell's "X-Factor" is ready for some great competition.

Farewell "American Idol", your tenth season could be very well your last, and don't think the American public didn't tell you so.

It's Tuesday, so it's time for Part 2 of the Auditions for The Voice tonight on NBC. After a very good first week, the team members (Adam Levine, Cee Lo Brown, Blake Shelton and Christina Aguilera) each have three members of their 8 member teams.

In my opinion, this is the way to run an audition show without watching all the crappy people who think they have talent (i.e. American Idol auditions) and these people have already been seen by the producers and invited to 'come on down' for a full-blown performance for the judges, who can't see the contestants until they punch a button that turns their chair around. When they do this, that means they think that this particular person would have a great chance at being the next "Voice". If more than one judge turns their chair around, then the contestant gets to choose whose team he will join.

If none of the judges turn their chairs around, that's all for the contestant. At the end of their performance the judges will explain why they didn't punch their buttons.

I really like this show, and can't wait to see what happens next. Tonight's show should be really good, based on last week's performances.

It all starts at 8 pm Eastern, 7 pm Central time on NBC. For all you "Gleeks", don't forget to set up your DVR to record this so you can watch the "real" talent after you watch your show tonight.

First of all, it's Adam Levine. And second of all, it starts at 9 pm Eastern, so all of us "Gleeks" can watch both Glee and The Voice. It's kind of funny how you say you hate Glee so much yet you continually talk about it. And everyone on Glee has talent. Just because you can't see it doesn't mean it's not there. Have you even listened to Lea Michele sing? I rest my case.

Sorry about that. My bad!!! You are correct, "The Voice" is on from 9 pm (8 central) until 11 pm (10 pm central).

I watch "Glee" more than you think because I am still looking for that person who shows me something besides the fact that she can lip-sync without you knowing it. I know this show is supposed to be a "fantasy" show and has one of my favorite people (Jane Lynch) wasted on it.

Lea Michele is a very pretty girl, and if that is her voice, she has a good voice. But I want to hear something original on this show. All of the music I hear is retreads of old hits, and I still prefer the original artists to these "wannabes".

Everyone has their own likes and dislikes, and I watched the two-hour pilot show for "Glee" a couple of summers ago, when all the rave was that this show was going to be a one-time shot.

I joined a lot of other people sending in my letters to Fox to make this show a regular show on their schedule. I thought that the two-hour pilot show was the best thing they have done, so far.

I think I can honestly criticize this show because I do watch it now and then, only because I like to watch Jane Lynch.

So watch "Glee" and then watch "The Voice" and see where the real talent is!!!

Episode 16, "Original Song", featured six original songs, out of the eleven total that were featured in the episode.

The pilot was one hour.

You don't criticize the show. You bash it and its fans mercilessly based on your own prejudices and complete lack of knowledge of the series. You say you watch episodes, but nearly every post in the "Glee" thread says nothing about the show itself, just your own misinformation. Rather than offer valid arguments for why you don't like it, you spout stupidity that people have time and again proven wrong, but you ignore it because if you even acknowledge that they were right in one instance, your whole argument on the show would fall apart. You're nothing but a troll to the "Glee" thread, and you've been told by mods and Luke to either cool it and keep to topic in a positive way or just stop talking about "Glee" because NOTHING you say in that thread is a worthwhile contribution to the discussion.

This is why whenever I read your "Glee" posts, I imagine a sad and demented little puppet with nothing better to do. I know we haven't gotten along in the past, and that occasionally we are on the same side, but seriously, it ends here. I've had it with your pathetic posts about "Glee" and ignoring them does no good. So seriously, do everyone on UD a favor: GROW UP and quit bothering the "Gleeks". Maybe then your posts would read more like something that an allegedly older and wiser man would say, rather than continually being a words that seemingly come out of grumpy and clueless old puppet. Age is a state of mind, and if your "Glee" posts are any indication, you're just a whiny pretentious teenager who thinks he's better than the show and its cast.

And apologies to everyone else who had to read the above two paragraphs. I've been trying to make my posts be either boring or positive as I didn't like the negative nature the forums have taken, but really, this was just too much and I simply had to get it off my chest. I'm fairly certain I broke the "no personal attacks" rule somewhere in there, so I'll wait patiently for word from a mod with whatever punishment they see fit.

Well said Scaps.

The only thing I have to add to that is that Junkie should be suspended from the forums due to the fact that he refuses to listen to the mods AND Luke himself.

As for the topic on hand, I have no interest in this show whatsoever and highly suspect this thread was created partially for Junkie to spout his constant DVR "advice"

I watched part of The Voice tonight. It was okay. I think the talent has been so-so; most of the entertainment comes from the judges really.

Personally, I hope Christina ends up winning. :)

"The Voice" is down now to the four teams of eight finalists who will pared down to four for each team in the coming weeks as they face the "Battle" portion of the show.

Carson Daly is going to be a good host for this show. I think that they all got the talent they were looking for and each of the coaches have a lot to work with in the coming weeks. Each team has their strong points and I think that Adam Levine has a very unique choice of people to work with.

Next week the show moves to its regular time, 10 Eastern/9pm central.

And just when we get comfortable with this show, America's Got Talent comes back for another season on May 31.

From TVbytheNumber
NBC is dancing and singing in the halls of 30 Rock. NBC’s The Voice was up 10% with adults 18-49 from its premiere to an impressive 5.6 adults 18-49 rating from 9-11p, and NBC won the night with adults 18-49.

The worst part of last night's episode was the last woman who butchered Rolling in the Deep. I mean, I know it was her second chance and she didn't have time to prep, but wouldn't she at least pick a song in which she knew the lyrics? I mean, it was pretty bad. Hopefully Adam can help her with her memorization skills, among other things.
