Well Disney lost rights to all their Miramax titles which number at least 20.
So, in effect, excluding animation, Disney have only 60 catalogue titles in print.
This excludes everything released from 2007-onwards even though 2006 was the first year movies debuted in Blu-Ray, "The Shaggy Dog" wasn't released so I counted the entire year as the first full catalogue year.
I hope I don't have to tell you how pathetic that is. This is the 5th year into the format and they have barely released anything. Thank God Miramax's 700 film library went mostly to Lionsgate otherwise they'd never be released.
MGM have released more than 20 titles this year alone, sort of a catch-up for them after being in trouble for years, but that they are already at 1/3 of Disney's output is really pathetic for Disney. True, many of their titles aren't top-notch quality, but then, aside from animation/Pixar/recent releases Disney weren't too hot either.
I honestly don't know what they're playing at. Are they just going to eventually remake everything and do cross-promotions a la Tron? They are the richest studio yet what the hell do they do with the money? They don't pay their animators either
Well, it'll serve them right in the long run when their library becomes even more worthless than it already is.

I'm a bit concerned because I am upgrading by Pixar collection to Blu-Ray and placed an order with the Disney Movie Club.
When it came to A Bug's Life there's 2 blu-ray versions listed, one listed and described as having a DC and the other with a DVD.
The one has the non-paneled cover shown with BD+DC and the description even says it has the DisneyFile copy. I don't want a DC, so I ordered the 2nd one.
It has the "paneled" cover shown but appears to be shaped & sized as though while it's a BD+DVD combo, it's in a DVD Amaray case maybe. But, since it's the only BD+DVD pack they offer, I ordered it.
Does anybody know if there is in fact both DVD case and BD case versions of the Bug's Life BD+DVD combo out there? Or is this just yet another version of their site being out-of-date and uninformative when it comes to cover scans and details of what you're ordering?
