The "Celebrities We Like" Thread
Based on Goliath's suggestion. This thread is for those of us who have no intention of posting in the other thread. Why give "celebcompoops" any more attention? Let's chat about people we actually like.
I'm always gonna love Rachel McAdams. She has a very likable personality, even when she plays a complete bitch (Mean Girls). I'm a bit upset that she's acting opposite Channing Tatum in The Vow (out next year). I've done my best to avoid his films ever since Step Up and She's the Man. But my deep admiration for Rachel likely means I'll have to watch her acting opposite of the block of wood.

Johnny Depp. He is truly a wonderful actor, and I love how much he cares about his fans. I though it was so incredibly nice of him when he showed up at that little girls school dressed as Jack.

I agree. He's become a bit overexposed in the past few years, although I am looking forward to his upcoming films, especially Dark Shadows.

Hmm... which celebrity do I like? Let me think.... Hmm, this is hard....
Could it be....?

But that's only for his singing and songwriting. I don't know how he is outside of his music; what his personality is like; what he feels or believes etc. We got a glimpse of it in Don't Look Back (1967), the fly-on-the-wall documentary from his 1965 tour in England, but that's all, and that's a long time ago. This man is an enigma, even to people who have known and followed him their whole lives.
So which celebrities do I really like? I won't list all of the actresses and singers and television presenters that I like for their looks, or this thread would never end.
I'll have to think this over some more. The only names that keep popping into my head right now, are of Dutch celebrities... which is most unintersting for most of you, I'm sure.

I only like the Celebcompoops thread better because the celebrities I dislike is the shorter of the two lists.
(this is just based on the personality they give off, or show in interviews)
Anne Hathaway, Nicole Kidman, Shania Twain, Hugh Jackman, David Archuleta, Eva Longoria, Betty White, Kelly Clarkson, Meryl Streep, Kristen Chenoweth, Dolly Parton, Kirstie Alley, John Travolta, Lady Gaga, Neil Patrick Harris, Joy Behar, Larry King, Angela Lansbury, Jordin Sparks, Helena Bonham Carter, etc.
There are likely many many more, but it’s hard to think on the spot.
EDIT: Oh, and definitely Jesse Eisenberg. I liked him way before The Social Network (which I still haven't seen). Partially for his looks, but partially for his personality--those usually go hand-in-hand for me.

Please name them. There are plenty of Dutch people hereGoliath wrote:Hmm... which celebrity do I like? Let me think.... Hmm, this is hard....

I immediately had to think of Ilse de Lange, a Dutch singer.

Not only because I like her songs and she's hot (this isn't a 'celebrity crush'-thread after all --do we even have a thread like that?), but because I love her personality. She's so spontaneous, so lively, so endearing, cute, sweet, cheerful and funny; she's irresistable. Whenever she's on a talkshow, I know I'm gonna enjoy it.
For you Americans, here is one of her most succesful songs:

@ Avaitor: yeah, your pictures seem to be more fitting in that thread Lazario has dug up. I think this thread was meant to discuss celebrities we like for their personalities/talents --I think; I can't speak for Albert. Although there can always be overlap, like my example.
@ Super Aurora: agreed! The clip I posted is the official video to that song, but I think the over-produced nature of it doesn't do Ilse justice. Some glimpses of her personality can be seen in this live performance of the song in a talkshow: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9gOQw5ridUg
More well-known celebrities I like:
- Rachel Maddow: not because she shares my political beliefs (to a great extent), but because she's a rare exception in today's mainstream media. She's obviously a self-admitted liberal, and large parts of her show are dedicated at discrediting Republican/Tea Party ideology. But far more important is that, unlike windbags like Ed Schultz (MSNBC) and the Fox-boys (O'Reilly, Hannity, Beck etc.), she isn't a partisan hack who will twist facts and leave out context or manipulate reality to make one certain party look good. In today's extremely polarized media landscape, she's a sane voice of calm reason. No excited huffing and puffing like those others I mentioned, but rational thoughts presented in a thorough manner. If Democrats screw up, she will not cover that up, but report on it. And if she makes a mistake, she'll always rectify. She's the only one to do this.
- George Clooney: I think he's a good actor, and I like the fact that he uses money he makes on participating in blockbuster to finance small, independently produced 'arthouse' projects. He also traveled to the dangerous region of Darfur, Sudan a couple of times to try to get the world's attention for the genocide that was/is happening there. On every talk show I see him, he always brings up this and other important but forgotten (political) topics, and I appreciate him for doing that. I know people who dislike him have tried to make him look vain by pointing to his often repetitive roles in blockbusters, but he more than makes up for that with movies like Syriana and Good Night and Good Luck.
- Bill Maher and Jon Stewart: because they're comedians, yet are the most informative source of information nowadays when it comes to politics and current events. Sad, but true. They catch bullshit coming from both parties and merciless desseminate it, when no other person in the 'news' media will do it. Stewart is especially great in pointing out how much bullshit the media spouts, while Maher dares to raise subjects on his show that are usually considered 'off-limits', like the American 'empire' (troops and bases all over the world); the need for 'class warfare'; the illegal powers the president holds; and of course, religion. And when they in turn get interviewed on other shows, it's amazing how childish and petty the 'real' news people and 'opinion leaders' sound in comparison.

I like her too for the reasons you've listed above, although I think she does get excited at times like when she emphasizes how crazy things can get (the "panic button" comes to mind), but that's not a bad thing as you can agree with her because of her explanation prior to.Goliath wrote:- Rachel Maddow: not because she shares my political beliefs (to a great extent), but because she's a rare exception in today's mainstream media. It's because of you posting clips from her show on this site that I got into her, same with Maher. Although with Maher it's largely for his "New Rules" segment.

Penelope Cruz? Why would you say tha....Goliath wrote:What about Penélope Cruz?pap64 wrote:If I can think of anyone, I'll let you know.

Oh, right...
Well, here's the thing. I can "like" a celebrity based on how they look or talents. I Penelope Cruz is beautiful, and Jeff Bridges is a great actor that seems like a decent guy.
But usually it takes a little more than that to make me LIKE a celebrity. Personality, what they have done, morals and such. That's why I tend to not love any personality per say, because I don't know much about them and usually they tend to be pretty twisted.
