Donald Duck's birthday. When?

Hi, everybody!

It's many disagreements about Donald Duck's birthday. Is it June 9, 1934 or (about) 1920 according to Don Rosa?

What do you think?

I looked it up, Donald's birthday is June 9, 1934. His first appearance is in the cartoon titled the Wise Little Hen

I think the point is that since Donald was not a just-hatched duckling in 1934, Rosa may have retconned his "birth date" in a more recent comic or cartoon.

Using 1920 is kind of a joke upon a joke, as we're talking about a fictional character here, and his "birth" was hi sfirst appearance.

Neither of those answers are correct, so I won't vote. If you really meant to ask when the Donald character was created, then it would be June 9th (the debut of his first cartoon appearance, but I suppose that he had to have been thought up before that date). But his birthday, according to the cartoon "Donald's Happy Birthday" is Friday March 13th.

I voted for June 9,1934 I looked it up on the net and thats when he had his first apperance but even had I not the date just seems resonable to me.

I'm afraid it's some misapprehensions here. I asked not for Donald's first appereance, but his birthday. In the short "The Wise Little Hen", was Donald Duck a "little" boy. Also, he's birthday must have been some years before "The Wise Little Hen"-year, or what? Don Rosa mean that Donald was born (about) 1920. With other words: In 1934 was Donald (about) 14 years. What do you think about this?

But I know also that many Donald Duck & Co creators are very disagree with Don Rosa's theory. Donald. 80 years today? Or is the time in Duckburg maybe different from other worlds?

And why do you think Donald's birthday is June 9, 1934? (I just ask...

)

Yes, I think one may say that time in the cartoon/comics universe of Duckburg is very different from time in "our" world. Most characters are young adults (or whatever) at the time of their first appearance. If they're still around seventy years later they are still pretty much the same age. Just look at Donald Duck's three nephews...

Speculating on drawn characters' "real" age may be interesting to some and totally irrelevant to others. Ultimately they are created on paper and can be just as young today as they were seventy years ago if there is someone around to draw them that way. One could say that some of these characters are timeless.

Okay, I think we've officially gone over the line.

Donald Duck is a ficticious character, and as such, was never actually born. The "birthday" of any thought-up creation falls either on the day the idea was conceived, or the first appearance in public.

Now I realize we all know this, but I wanted to intervene before things got really insane and people are posting pics of "Donald's Egg".

I'm very agree with you, Lars! I'm very disagree with Don Rosa's theory, which state Scrooge's dead to 1967, and according to Don Rosa is Donald 80 years today. I'm disagree!

But to you, Sully. In Donald's first appereance - "The Wise Little Hen" - is Donald already a youth, also he CANNOT be born at that time, also in 1934. Don Rosa's theory is frankly logical, which state Donald's birthday to (about) 1920. Also was Donald (about) 14 years in 1934. Or...?

But why date all the happenings? Why don't say that Donald's really birthday is in 1934 (i.e. his first APPEREANCE), and say that he was born little before that time, maybe...

And Donald & Co is still a young adult, and the characters in Duckburg can't die. If there's someone around to draw them, isn't the characters in Duckburg - even not Scrooge - die.

Any disagreements?

OK, well if you aren't asking for the date of his first appearance, but for a fictional character's birthday, then the only answer can be the fictional birthday that the creator's gave him. That would have to be March 13th.

This fits in pretty well with this thread, but there is a Wonderful World of Disney episode called, "This Is Your Life, Donald Duck", available on Japanese laserdisc. It actually shows footage of Donald's birth as he hatches from the egg. It doesn't mention his birth date, but Jiminy says, "you came out of the egg squaking, and you haven't stopped since".
