tvshowsondvd.com wrote:This past April we let you know that Warner Home Video was planning to bring Growing Pains - The Complete 2nd Season to DVD - at last! - in 2011. Today the studio formally announced the title, giving it a street date of April 26th. The 3-disc set running 572 minutes will cost just $29.98 SRP. Here's a small look at the package art, alongside Warner's description of the set. Stay tuned for updates!

Growing Pains - The Complete 2nd SeasonCongratulations...you're fired. Mike (Kirk Cameron) receives a car from his pleased parents after he's named Employee of the Month. (So how's he going to tell them he's been canned?) Mike's not the only one with secrets. Brainy Carol (Tracey Gold) wants everyone to think she has a romantic extracurricular life with a hunky football hero. And what's up with 10-year-old Ben (Jeremy Miller) and those 67 calls to a sex line? (No, it's not what you might think.) These events don't all happen at the same time, but they do all happen at the same place: the Season 2 home-sweet-ho-ho-home of the Seavers - dad Jason (Alan Thicke), mom Maggie (Joanna Kerns), and three on-the-go kids. Jason works as a psychiatrist. You think maybe it's time to add some family appointments to his calendar?

There is probably easy-to-find information about this to answer my question elsewhere but (since I'm lazy and it was brought up here) - when did Warner release the first season? And... will any seasons likely be DVD-R sets?

Any reviews of the first season set that anyone here might recommend I check out?

I have the first season and love it! I always loved the show and the extra on the first season is cool. It's a camp fire reunion of the original cast which I found to be a lot of fun.

I have no idea if this show will go the way of the DVD-R. Anything is possible, but I'd think if season 2 does well enough, maybe not? It has been I think 4 years since the first season came out, so this release is a big deal! Normally shows that take that long in between season releases don't get new releases.

My hope is this may be a good sign for "Murphy Brown," "Perfect Strangers," and "Family Matters," but I'm not holding my breathe.

Yeah, I'm not buying Murphy Brown until they start releasing more of it. I can not start and stop. It's certainly a better show than Full House and Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, both of which given a real red carpet treatment (if getting them out that quickly is any indication). Popularity sucks.

As for the show, I never really watched it. But I do remember really loving the whole E! show on the making of it. Lots of great gossip there and shocking things all around. Especially the whole Tracy Gold thing. Really makes the star character one of the most mean-spirited people in sitcom history, constantly messing with her self-esteem like that.

GROWING PAINS

Join the Seaver Clan for 22 Laugh-Out-Loud Episodes
of the Emmy Winning and Golden Globe Nominated Series

BURBANK, CA - One of television's best loved families, the Seavers, returns for another laughter-filled season on DVD when Warner Home Video (WHV) brings Season Two of Growing Pains to DVD April 26, 2011. Titled Growing Pains: The Complete Second Season, this release will retail for $29.98 SRP.

Growing Pains stars teen idol Kirk Cameron (Mike Seaver), Alan Thicke (Jason Seaver), Joanna Kerns (Maggie Seaver), Tracey Gold (Carol Seaver) and Jeremy Miller (Ben Seaver). The show follows the story of the Seavers, a contemporary couple living in Long Island, NY with their three children. Maggie Seaver, the matriarch of the household, has recently rejoined the workforce as a journalist, leaving her husband Jason, a practicing psychiatrist, to juggle his responsibilities to his patients and his three children by working from home.

In the second season of Growing Pains, Mike (Kirk Cameron) receives a car from his parents after he's named Employee of the Month, but when he's fired from his job, he has no idea how to break the news to them. Mike is not the only one with secrets. Brainy Carol (Tracey Gold) wants everyone to think she has a romantic extracurricular life with a hunky football hero. What is up with 10-year-old Ben (Jeremy Miller) and 67 phone calls that were made to an erotic phone line?

"Growing Pains is one of the most beloved comedies from the 1980s. Just as funny and relatable today as ever, the show continues to have a strong appeal with viewers," said Rosemary Markson, WHV Vice President, TV and Special Interest Marketing. She added, "Fans have been asking for and anticipating the release of subsequent seasons of Growing Pains, and we are delighted to bring them more. This is a must-own title for classic TV fans and anyone who appreciates great family comedies."

Growing Pains originally aired on ABC from September 1985 to April 1992 and went on to become a very successful and popular family comedy for seven seasons. Over its run, it garnered two Emmy Award wins and three additional nominations, and three Golden Globe nominations. Prior to its release on DVD, Growing Pains aired in syndication on The Disney Channel and ABC Family.
