Anyone else besides me insanely excited for this release? The Scream trilogy is one of my most watched DVDs, and they are my favourite horror movies.
I'm really hoping none of the original 3 die, but if one of them dies, I hope it is Dewey. He should have been dead at the end of the second one for sure. It might be Gale though, as Courteney was only on set for a month, although that was longer than Neve was when Scream 3 was filming. Hopefully she just did her scenes quick because of Cougar Town.

Same. Or the character Hayden P is playing. But that is because Courteney and Hayden are hot. Neve, not so much, but if she dies, I don't know how future sequels would look.

When they bring her in, I hope it's for a Jaime Kennedy-type role in which she's a consultant explaining the horror movie rules.

The way the 3rd ends, is very epic. The way she leaves the door open which finally means she accepts what has happened, and she is not afraid anymore. I think all 3 of the characters deserve to live happily, and I hope that none of them die.

I am a hardcore Scream fan and a huge defender of the franchise... But I'm very much against, A) another sequel with the original surviving characters in it, and, B) the ending of Part 3.
Horror films are not necessarily supposed to be movies where you get hooked to characters for emotional reasons, some bad things happen, then everything is resolved at the end and everything's happy. Most of the groundbreaking films of the 60s and up didn't have "happy" endings. Rosemary's Baby, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Halloween, Dawn of the Dead, Carrie, An American Werewolf in London, Phantasm, The Evil Dead, A Nightmare on Elm Street, Black Christmas, The Shining, The Howling, Hellraiser, The Omen, The Fly, The Last House on the Left, It's Alive, The Thing, Deathdream / Dead of Night, Re-Animator, Candyman, Ginger Snaps, American Psycho, May. Just to name a few.
The "happy ending" solution was re-introduced into the mainstream by Spielberg in the thriller Jaws which leaked into Poltergeist, and after the bomb of Carpenter's The Thing and Cronenberg's Videodrome (which both had notoriously depressing endings), studios started pushing for more Poltergeist's. So they got: Fright Night, The Lost Boys, Near Dark, Vamp, Innocent Blood (most vampire films made from 1985 and up had happier endings unlike the sullen finale to 1983's The Hunger), happy Nightmare on Elm Streets starting with part 3, happy Friday the 13ths starting with part 6, happy Child's Plays starting with part 2, all happy Leprechauns and Critters, happy Day of the Dead and Monkey Shines (George Romero), happy Phenomena, Opera, and Trauma (Dario Argento), happy Serpent and the Rainbow, Shocker, People Under the Stairs, and New Nightmare (Wes Craven). Very few people were given license to have unhappy endings. For example... Stephen King movies (Pet Sematary, Needful Things, Sleepwalkers). John Carpenter refused to make happy endings, pretty much. John McNaughton (Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer and The Borrower), but then he stopped making horror movies and moved into television. David Cronenberg, but he quit horror in the late 80's. And the people who were working at Empire / Full Moon (Stuart Gordon, Brian Yuzna, Troll, random killer dolls movies- Demonic Toys, Puppet Master).
One of the biggest problems with Part 3 is that you knew the rules too well from the previous movies. It was painfully predictable and so then, you're sitting through 2 hours of almost-consistently inferior repetition of themes and jokes from the first two movies (I say "almost" because Parker Posey was hilarious). And you know who's going to die and who isn't (with one exception, I thought for sure the aggravated detective was going to die- ala, the bodyguardish agents in Part 2). Then, you have a terrible hook for a gimmick: "you're in a trilogy!" Um... what?! Randy was an annoying character in the first two movies. This worked in favor for the first movie, in the 2nd movie- they paid him off by killing him (shutting him up, thankfully). Then they want to give him more movie-geek dialogue, but... he's now drifting even further away from horror and brings up freaking Star Wars and The Godfather to support his trilogy theory. WHAT?! I didn't realize those important film franchises involved stalkers, serial killers, slashing deaths, and costumed boogeymen figures. Then, the whole idea that killers are movie-obsessed. The killer says, "I direct movies" and tells Sidney that she's the star... I never really thought about it before, but this is terrible motivation for a killer. And again, they just cut and paste it from the previous movies. Sibling jealousy? Nobody cared about Sidney's Mom. She wasn't a character. She was a plot device and nothing more. This sequel tried to fake us into believing she was more.
This is going to sound kind of stupid, but... they should have just gone with the idea to remake it. Instead of doing a part 4. At least then they could start with new characters. Sidney only really became a strong character in the 2nd movie, Gail was a hollow shell until part 3, Dewey was kind of a cliche until part 2, and the boyfriend replacements were weak after Skeet Ulrich. Not to mention that all the red herrings in part 3 were way too aggressive and lacked that essential darkness that Liev Schreiber had perfect in part 2 and Ulrich and David Arquette did equally well in the first movie. Patrick Dempsey and the killer's voice on the phone, especially. Everytime he would reveal himself after using the voice manipulator box, he would start grunt-talking like he was in some kind of UFC match or like he was Harrison Ford on Air Force One: "DON'T YOU TOUCH MY FAMILY or I'll tear you apart, limb by limb, and..." whatever he said. You know what I mean. He was self-righteously aggressive and lacked the creepy vibe of the killers from the previous film. He wasn't playing, basically. The other killers were. They enjoyed killing. They weren't using the victims just to get to Sidney, this one was.
So far, I have only seen the first Scream all the way through (my sister rented it on video when it came out) but I really do not see any point in making a third sequel 11 years after the last one. Hollywood is getting way too desperate.
Well... The first movie was about horror movies, you remember. So, they could have been making Scream movies (basically) all this time. Since the horror genre (in this new action-thriller phase we're, unfortunately, going through) does keep taking on new concepts in trends. All they have to do is toss Sidney, Gale, and Dewey. Or put them in minor roles. The remake really was a better idea from the start. With no attachments to prior characters, they can really attack the bad place the genre is in. With Williamson as writer, hopefully doing a better job than he did with Cursed (and this is a factor for concern). And damn is there a real angle this time to attack America's culture-of-stupid that leads to crap like Saw and the new kid fans who won't shut up in theaters, parents who bring their 7 year olds to see stuff like Captivity and Chaos, and kids who don't even see the original films before going "the remake is better!"
There's too much baggage with the old characters. They need to start over again, fresh.
That could have worked in the 90's. Now- forget about it! The drama looks painfully repetitious, cliched, and dull. The characters are empty stereotypes (why are they all ridiculously good-looking?). The 3D gimmick signals desperation. And there's a clear use of technical proficiency in this ad over story depth.
It looks like a bore and a half. The new millennium keeps killing great talent. I think we can now safely add Craven to the list of horror masters who need to retire (or for God's sake- get back to your roots!!).

I am dying to see this! Ever since I saw the link on Wikipedia i've been wanting to see it. It's funny because I'm such a chicken yet I love scary movies haha
I went too the world premiere yesterday, where they had a marathon of the first three movies and then at midnight the premiere of Scream 4.
I've never seen the first one in cinema before, so that was cool. Scream 2 was always one of my favs, but after a while it becomes a little dull and well, I still like to pretend Scream 3 never happened.
During a short break, the entire audience was given Ghost Face masks...
On to Scream 4, don't want to spoil anything, but I liked it. it did feel as though a lot of footage was cut, especially in the character-development area. All the new characters aren't really fleshed out enough, like in the first two movies. Sidneys scenes felt like a drag, very much like Scream 3. Dewey was barely in the movie and Gale looked a lot like Janice Dickinson, lol.
There were some cool scenes, especially the opening.

Without saying WHO, could you please give me the body count? I'm making my predictions and am kind of wondering how many characters are offed.
I will not pay to support this franchise. The Scream movies are way overdone and are NOT horror movies, they are satire movies. And they aren't very good, after the first one, which I own.
If someone offers to take me to the cinema to see this - then maybe I will go. But I work to hard to waste money on this drivvel. It's just Hollywood's way of saying 'we need money, so we will go with something we know and is safe!'
Hollywood has no originality and gets none of my money with this one. Sorry.
