Parent Trap Alert!

Post by Sulley »

I noticed how many people's Wal-Marts are now carrying the long OOP 1998 version of The Parent Trap. I myself bought a copy from the Vegas store while on vacation for only $14.44. Anyways, it says on this site that the DVD is has a 1.85:1 ratio and doesn't list it as anamorphic. Also, the OOP version on this site shows that the cover art has the large purple WIDE SCREEN banner on the front cover. The disc I just purchased has merely the small light blue WIDE SCREEN label on the spine and says on the back that the ratio is 1.66:1 and enhanced for 16:9 televisions. The 16:9 thing doesn't really bug me as I don't own a WS television, but I am concerned about the OAR. :?

It's almost certainly a misprint. When Disney redoes the artwork to remove the big Widescreen banner on front, they also add "Enhanced for 16 x 9 Televisions" to the back. They've done this on Good Will Hunting, Metro, a few others. The disc inside remains the same - non-anamorphic widescreen.

Nothing like deceptive packaging!

You're right, I should have played a scene of the disc before I asked. Definitely 1.85:1
