Platinum Edition vs. Diamond Edition
If you toggle between the two images, all that changes is the colors being smoothed out, which Aaron notes in his review:
Platinum Edition vs. Diamond Edition
If you toggle between the two images, all that changes is the colors being smoothed out, which Aaron notes in his review:
- In one of the many A/B comparisons I performed, I found an instance where the colors in the mother's fur had clearly been smoothed out, doing away with inconsistent coloring and shading evident in the 2005 transfer. After catching that one outstanding frame, I then found other instances of the same practice that were barely noticeable on close inspection. The new appearance is certainly more pleasing to the eye, but it also raises a question about the fidelity of this latest restoration. Of course, it could be that the 2005 transfer is the inaccurate one, but since it appears to leave the uneven artistry intact, I doubt that. I can't stress enough that these changes are neither prominent nor pervasive. I don't mean to be forgiving of revisionism; Disney should clean the picture to the best of their ability without completely painting over things. But if they have been tampering -- and I'm not entirely confident that they have -- they've at least done it quite sparingly.

Well, 8K is overkill for 35mm, so probably too muchajmrowland wrote:Scanned at twice the resolution the restoration was made in? How much detail were they hoping to get out of it?KubrickFan wrote: No it didn't. It was scanned in 8K, with the restoration done in 4K.
Of course, I guess it makes sense but still.....

You also have to remember that The Wizard of Oz is one of Warner's most popular titles, and while they could have used the same HD master that the earlier DVD used, I applaud them for going the extra mile.

Thanks for the larger images Scaps! They really helped!
Here, now I have zoomed in and drawn arrows to point to exactly what I am talking about. I can still see how in the first picture on the left, the older restoration, it looks like the line the arrow is pointing to is slightly, slightly longer, meaning they accidentally painted over it in the new restoration.
Please look very very carefully and try to see what I mean before you make your judgement:

ATTENTION: In uploading, the images may have lost some quality, so you may better see it when talking through the pictures, but looking at the exact same spot my arrows pointed to:
Platinum Edition vs. Diamond Edition
Thanks again Scaps!

This is kind of a stupid request, but does anyone have an actual photo of the front cover of the Bambi combo pack without the slipcover on it? I mean a photo of a real case, not just the artwork.
I was wondering if the piece of paper that the artwork is printed on is cropped oddly for my copy, or if everyone's looks the same. I haven't been back to a store to look at other copies since I got this title on release day.

I'm not going to get this version.
The 2005 version is perfect. With the 2011 one they've gone too far.
Compare the 2 screenshots of Bambi and his mother. I just love how his mother's skin seems to have many different shades of brown. In the new one it's just one big patch of the same color.
All the life is sucked out of it.

sorry. I couldnt resist.
Not trying to start up an argument here, but I find the newer one a tad less washed out and has slight more information on the sides.

The thing is, the shades of brown aren't in any way consistent. They instead look like defects. Imagine yourself a cell painter, you're only painting 1/24th of a second. You wouldn't purposely be painting various shades of brown because the next 1/24th of a second would not match. That's what I think anyway... I've never looked at it in greater detail. They did do this short of shading in Snow White IIRC, but that looked much more consistent, and less blotchy. Who knows the truth.Marky_198 wrote:I'm not going to get this version.

Hello :3
Hello people! My name is Christopher Magdaleno! I just signed up to this website & it looks really awesome! I love Bambi haha I just recently bought it (the platinum), but I think I want to buy this one too! I'll get the 2-Disc one though because I don't have a blu ray player or the sufficient funds to get one yet

I'm going to buy this Blu-ray soon. The offer of a Bambi plush for using the DMR code is sweet.
You thought it was a reference to Bloody Mary. I thought it was a reference to Beetlejuice. lolajmrowland wrote:yeah, he gauged my eyes out when I looked in the mirror.SpringHeelJack wrote:Someone must have said his name three times. Fess up.

I have the UK 2 pack as well and can confirm that "BAMBI 2" does play on Region A equipment.2099net wrote:Got the UK twin-pack today and a few comments:
Inside Walt’s Story Meetings is basically the same as a Warner Bros. Maximum Movie Mode, in that the film is relegated to a smaller window, with the bulk of the behind-the-scenes stuff being played out in the main window. I've not spent much time on this, but I believe you can opt to "branch out" at certain times, much like the "focus points" on a MMM.
The image galleries are the same as on Fantasia. So a big thumbs up for me, the galleries are my favourite segments and I'm pleased Disney seem to be moving forward (even if some of this disc is a step back from other Diamond editions).
The short The Old Mill is presented in SDA major let-down, and quite inexcusable.
The UK disc is marked as ABC, while Bambi II is marked as just being B and C. Obviously Disney US doesn't want any copies sneaking into the US. Or does it - the outer case holding both discs is simply labeled ABC. Does this mean the sequel is really ABC? Sadly, I don't have the equipment to test.

I just got my copy! I love it! I think Bambi looks amazing in this Daimond Edition, it really is a beautiful film. I also enjoyed watching it with Disney View. I thought the Disney View on Snow White brilliant so was happy to see this release had it to. Its a shame they didn't give it a two disc release with more bonus features, but the extras that do come with it are pretty decent.
I actually quite like the cover art now. I wasn't keen at first, but it has grown on me! Or I've gotten used to it. haha. I'm really enjoying the Diamond line as I didn't get the first few Platinum titles and only got a few of the later ones.
