Tangled DVD/Blu-ray Discussion (March 29)

I'll go for the combo when I can(not tomorrow. Friday or Saturday). I think I can save up for a 3DTV anyway in the coming year or so. They're under $1500 now.

^Which leaves me to wonder which is better to get. I want to future-proof the movie, but it'll probably be eons before I go 3D.

See... I don't get how a 3-D Blu-ray is "future proof." I think it's a long, long way before 3-D television becomes the norm. Personally, I doubt it will happen until there's a time where we don't need to strap goggles to our heads to properly view it. Assuming THAT happens, the standard 3-D Blu-ray that we have now wouldn't work as such.

Even if 3-D becomes a standard, is that saying that all 2-D movies will be converted to a new format? Is Warners going to want to convert "Casablanca" to 3-D? It seems unlikely. I suspect if 3-D ever does become a norm, it will have to co-exist with 2-D nicely.

People arent just waiting for glasses-free. They even more want Headache-free or sickness-free 3D.

3D TV is not taking off. It never will.

I'm all for new formats that push the quality of movies, but 3D is a gimmick. And that's fine because it work in theaters. But at home? Not gonna happen.

I'm not gonna bore anyone with Marshall McLuhan's gaze versus glance theory, but it comes down to a simple fact. The actual experience of watching differs greatly and 3D doesn't lend itself to the home experience.

The way I figure, by the time I ever can afford a 3D tv, I will be able to afford double dipping and re-buy a 3D version of Tangled. So I don't see the point (for myself) of future proofing when by the time I get on the bandwagon, they will probably have a rerelease special edition of the film anyway.

In the future you won't have access to coupons however, and while there is a what $2 difference between this and the standard blu ray and it comes with the DVD + Blu + Digital + 3D you pretty much never have to buy Tangeled again!

FYI - I was able to use the $5 coupon at Target on the regular blu/dvd combo. Tangled for $14.99...woohoo!!!

All I did was hand the coupon to the cashier, didn't ask if I could use it or anything. I figured if she said I couldn't use it, I'd just play dumb and go switch out with the 3D one, but she didn't even look at it really.

...also re: CampbellzSoup, again, if I can ever afford a 3D tv, re-buying Tangled will be no big deal. The speed at which electronic entertainment is evolving these days, in a few years there will be something else out, so future proofing with the current 3D blu-rays is a gamble more than an investment.

We'll have to buy it again once the first TVs with Smell-O-Vision come out. Just kidding, but the point is you never know what is on the horizon, so I doubt 3D is the end-all to developments in home video.

I'm still on the fence about the 2D and 3D combo. It'd be nice to use the coupon on the 2D combo, but knowing my luck, it wouldn't work and I don't know if I feel like trying it. I might just get the 3D and be done with it. At least I'll get the digital copy that way.

Both Target and Best Buy are offering the 3D combo pack at $24.99 before coupon. So you can get it for $19.99 at both stores with coupon.

Target is offering a free mini Golden Book with purchase, and Best Buy is offering a free plush Pascal.

Both stores have the 2D combo packs for $19.99, and although the coupon says it's for the 3D combo, some people have been able to use it for the 2D version.

Like I said to CampbellzSoup, I see it more as a gamble than an investment. Electronic formats are always evolving, and I'm not concerned with saving $20 for something I won't be getting for at least a few years, when I can save $5 now. Plus, since Target is honoring the coupon, I feel pretty good about having spent only $15 for a first day release blu/dvd combo.

So...the Tangled 3D Blu-ray combo pack has the regular Blu-ray, the 3D Blu-ray, and the DVD altogether?

And you can watch the 3D Blu-ray without having a 3D TV, because they give you glasses, correct?

Because I'm thinking I might as well get the one that has all the stuff (and the best cover art!).

I don't think you get glasses with this release and you do need a 3D TV to take advantage of 3D playback. Some people have said that the 3D Blu-ray will play in their regular Blu-ray players, but that playback is in 2D, obviously.

What's funny is that a lot of people seem to like the color scheme of the 3D cover art, but I think I like the 2D better.

Wal-Mart has the Blu-ray/DVD Combo pack for $19.96 packaged with a mirror and brush.

Target has the Blu-ray/DVD Combo pack for $19.99 packaged with the Little Golden Book of Tangled.

Best Buy is offering with any Blu-ray/DVD purchase of "Tangled" a Plushie of Pascal - and the Blu-ray/DVD Combo pack is $19.99.

Since I still don't understand which DVD or Blu-ray player plays the covers, I went with the Little Golden Book offer at Target, so my 3 year old grand daughter can have the book. This was her first in-theater movie experience so I know she will be glued to the television when we play the movie.

I got the regular Blu-Ray, as I don't have any problems on switching to 3-D (I think the television sets are going to bomb, when all is said and done). And I had a Best Buy Rewards coupon, so I got a better deal than if I used the Disney-offered coupon on the 3-D combo pack.

And I bought it at Best Buy, so I got the Pascal plushie. So, altogether, it was an awesome day (since I also found Waking Sleeping Beauty, which I used another Rewards coupon on ).

How is the 3D a waste of money when it costs $19.99 after coupon at Best Buy and Target, the same price the regular Blu-ray/DVD is being sold for (unless you were able to use the $5 coupon on that version)? Even if you never use the 3D or digital copy disc, you wouldn't have spent any more.

I think I've decided to get the 3D version, because, as I said above, it's the same price as the standard combo pack, and I'll get the digital copy. Who knows, maybe one day I'll have a 3D TV.

Can I please have your seriousness for a minute? One thing you appreciate and like about Disney animated films is their art, right? Their beautiful animation? Well, because so many Disney fans like art that looks good, we also want the covers to have art that looks good. Since Disney is about quality, even a cover or poster should reflect the quality of Disney art. So please, respect our love for Disney art in all things, be it animation, covers, posters we hang on our walls, or other products they make!
