Yup, memories. CBC played the Sunday Night Movie here in Canada. was my favourite part of Sunday and took away a little bit of the grief knowing I had to go to school the next day.

Just watched that intor clip with Michael Eisner for 20,000 Leagues; hard to believe they pulled that ride out of Walt Disney World. Dumb move.

As a 14-year-old Disney fan, I was tremendously excited by Disney's return to television when "The Disney Sunday Movie" came on the air in early 1986. Not only was it the return of Disney to television, but the fare was something I was interested in, my younger siblings could watch, and my parents enjoyed. (And there was a nice, healthy mix of classic fare in with the new movies, a great blend, really, of making old Disney relevant with the new Disney).

Now that I've reached the age of where my parents were then, there's not as much of this sort of feeling with a lot of the Disney Channel programming. I think one of my great disappointments with Disney owning ABC is the fact that you can't really tell it anymore. There's no "Disney" show like this to promote the parks, an older movie, a new movie, or to launch a new series.

The Disney Sunday Movie era was also early in the Eisner years, where Disney seemed to have this upward momentum of new fare, new ideas, etc. Obviously Disney is in a much better position today, but sometimes there doesn't seem to be that forward-momentum feeling with a lot of their projects.

I didn't like the way the Eisner years ended, but those early years certainly were exciting if you were a Disney fan. There was always something new or headlines about what Disney was doing. Thanks for sharing some memories!

I find it funny that in the intro clip they used that scene from Natty Gann where you can see the film crewman's legs dangling down the side of the railcar.

this is what I wish Disney Channel would do....and NOT with their stupid DCOMs...but with actual DISNEY films. I am still waiting for Time Flyer (aka Blue Yonder) to be given a dvd release....never got to see it from beginning to end due to a VHS tape running out of space while recording from the airing of the movie on television.

Are you still looking for Time Flyer, from the Disney Sunday Movie series?

Also, a question to any other Disney fans who may know, I see Art Carney was in thism as well as The Undergrads. Are there any other Disney movies he was involved in?

yes I am. This is what happened: I was going out of town and I had set my family's vcr to record it, but the tape ran out of space during the recording, so I never saw the whole movie. I would LOVE for Disney to release it on DVD. I don't want a VHS....no trustworthy VCR in my house.

I would also love to see Splash TOO on DVD

If you want (and if it does not violate any Disney rules), I have timeflyer on VHS and recently transferred it to DVD. It has all the commercials and everything from when I taped it, but I can make a copy for you also.

Does anyone remember "The Girl Who Spelled Freedom?" That was one of my favorite movies from The Disney Sunday Movie when I was younger. I'd love that to be shown again.

I like the Disney Family Movies On Demand channel that I get on Comcast, and that seems like a great place to show many of these movies. While taht channel shows a lot of older tv movies, I haven't seen the ones from this era show up there.
