I was aware of Deja's homosexuality about a week prior to this thread premiering.

It's on his wikipedia article.

I don't keep track of who's gay and who isn't, so I didn't know. Then again I don't think know who's gay or not is important to know. who cares.

What I am curious about is how Lazario has the ability to tell who's gay instantly.

I knew he was gay, but really don't care. So long as he doesn't make a big deal out of it or push it too hard, it's not a big deal. I love his work and respect him as an animator.

As for gay Disney characters, this may be the most tired and fruitless topic ever posted on these boards. This is what, the millionth times it's been asked? Look, if it ever does happen, Disney better hope they have enough "progressives" to carry their fan base, or on that day, the company is dead. I defiantly will stop watching new Disney Animation that day, and I know I'm very much not alone on that feeling. But, even if Disney or Pixar ever goes that direction, I don't think it will be for a while. My best bet is that they would put it into a direct-to-video film first to test the waters before anything bigger then that get hit, so that if it doesn't work, it is easy to bury and pretend it never happened.

Now can we please move on? There really are better things to talk about, seriously. Like how I've heard that "Monster's Inc. 2" may in fact be a pre-quel, or that "Tangled" is coming out on DVD and Blu Ray soon. With so many things Disney to talk about, why do we keep coming back to gays in Disney? My gosh, it's a family company for crying out loud, let's let the other studios make films about gays and let Disney make family entertainment, thanks. You may not start up the "anti-gay" bashing. I'm ready.

tu, i think you could include foxy loxy in your line up. she is incredibly butch until the aliens get to her, lol.

i had heard somewhere about andreas, but dont have a clue where or when.

i would love to see an openly gay character in an animated movie from any company [i dont think theres been one?] but only if it was handled properly and not relying on stereotypes to get the point across.

Yeah, I don't mind gay people either as long as they never mention it or act upon it in any way. Otherwise it's like GET LOST PALLY. But that doesn't make me homophobic.

Um, we do have topics on them. Perhaps you haven't been there lately? It's a general Disney discussion board, and this certainly falls under that. It's not like the board has been dead while everyone has focused all their energy on one little topic. Perhaps a better question is why do you feel the need to come here and endlessly say the same thing? I'd say that's more suspect than how you think no one is talking about "Tangled" or whatever.

Also, there are more kinds of "family" than what you seem to think "family" means. Just an FYI there, buddy.

Yeah, I'm fine with heteros as long as they don't make a big deal out of it or push too hard. You know, I really don't want to hear about them getting married or sharing the same bed since that suggests activities that aren't family-friendly (we wouldn't want our children exposed to the concept of sexuality, now would we?). I'm also fine with women as long as they don't act all girly or wear anything to remind me that they are indeed women, I'd rather not have them flaunting their dirty feminine wiles all over the place.

But seriously, I don't understand why portraying a same-sex couple is somehow automatically anti-family. There are all types of families that fall outside of the traditional sense; what matters most is being together and loving one another, and that's always been a big part of what Disney is all about.

milo, I suggest you just stay our of threads that you feel are offensive to you. Otherwise you deserve what you get by coming in here and spewing your ignorance. The title of the thread was very clear as to the topic, and the original poster was linking to a new article which makes it relevant to discuss on a Disney forum. Your post in here is nothing less than trolling.

Disney, or anyone, would be better off without "fans" like you anyway.

Agreed.

MJT - you're trolling big time. And really? Nobody wants you telling them what they can and can't do here and talk about. It's not anti-gay so much as it's just unclassy and obnoxious.

Ugh, I hate that too. Remember when women were all like we want to be considered equal and get jobs and vote? Whatever, ladies. Why can't women just bake shit and pump out kids anymore? And what's the big deal about when everyone had their own drinking fountain? Things were happier then.

 That was too funny!
I don't get the debate over these things, seriously. Maybe it's because I live outside the US, but much like I didn't get the "contreversy" over a black princess, I'm just not getting the big ooha over a gay couple. If it serves the story well and isn't treated as a gimmick, I'm all for it. Heck, maybe if they'll introduce a gay couple to the Disneyverse we'll finally have a hero/heroine that actually has BOTH parents.

If this doesn't prove I don't have a gaydar... Until someone who has worked for Disney told me Deja was gay about a year ago, I had no idea. Just like I never knew Ashman was gay until I read something about his partner on UD. I just thought he was a straight guy, in love with musicals, who liked to play out the Divine-inspired Medusa to Pat Carroll. Am I just clueless or totally void of any prejudices? ;)

Now Chris Sanders... there's someone who, I think, hasn't found his way out of the closet yet...

That's all the more reason to make a Disney film with a gay couple. Really, I want to see Bill O'Reilly's head explode on air! I want to see Glenn Beck explaining on his blackboard how George Soros has taken over Disney to shove the homosexual agenda down our throats. I want teabaggers all over the country marching in the streets, depicting Walt Disney as Hitler.

Oooh, I can't wait!

You mean... as long as he doesn't show he's gay? Or as long as he doesn't have a boyfriend? Or as long as he doesn't have gay sex? But if he did any of those things, it suddenly *would* be a "big deal" to you? Why is that? Seriously. Would you lose sleep over it?
milojthatch wrote:I defiantly will stop watching new Disney Animation that day, and I know I'm very much not alone on that feeling.
Good, that's yet another reason to have a gay Disney couple as soon as possible!
milojthatch wrote:Now can we please move on? There really are better things to talk about, seriously.
Is it that you are scared of gays? Do they frighten you? Do you cry every time somebody on UD makes a reference to gays?

Because there are no families with gay sons/daughters/aunts/uncles? Gays live outside family relations? Gays live in a vacuum? Do you believe gays shouldn't be allowed near families?
milojthatch wrote:You may not start up the "anti-gay" bashing. I'm ready.
Well, boo fucking hoo! Either you're just trolling or you really, really want to be a good Christian martyr.

See, I always used to think that, particularly when I watched that documentary on the two-disc DVD, but when I heard that Dean DeBlois was actually gay... it seemed less likely that Chris Sanders was "confused" or whatever. Also, judging from his website, he really enjoys the feminine form a lot. A LOT.

Well, I knew it was only a matter of time before this thread went down in flames like the last one. At least I didn't contribute anything this time.

All I have to say is:

Hercules & Megara > Hercules & Aladdin > Aladdin & Jasmine

Jasmine fell off the carpet. Or maybe back on?
