DisneyJedi I think you should cool off. No one has started any of this shit except for you. Stop pushing your own problems on others, cause all it does is make you look bad and weak on your part.

I think we all should just sing some Randy Newman and simmer down...

I'm sorry. I can't help it if I get a little melodramatic. Just like how Super Aurora and others can't help but get a thrill out of antagonizing me.

Look, the overall point is that I don't hate Randy Newman or his singing. However, the point is that I was not rooting for him, but instead for Alan Menken. Then, Newman's win felt like a punch to the face. So overall, I felt pretty screwed over.

How do you think the people who actually worked on Tangled feel?

Anyway, the whole Oscar show was a bust as usual. It'll be the second coming of Jesus before an animated feature ever gets a Best Picture win.

Aww that's not true! I enjoyed the Oscars a lot this year. Anne Hathaway was great and Alice and TS3 both took home two awards. I'd say that's pretty good. Plus, Dreamworks didn't win anything. Another bonus. (Even though I love HTTYD) Plus we got to see Alan, Mandy and Zach! :)

I was thinking something along the lines of that earlier today. But instead, I was like "The day an animated movie wins Best Picture is the day that pigs learn to fly."

Without singling out individual members at this point, several of you are engaging in personal attacks and an unwelcome level of profanity in this thread. Please step away and cool down before coming back and posting any replies. Please review our forum guidelines if you need to. You know who you are. As much as I was rooting for "I See the Light" to win, I have no problem with Randy Newman winning. But, I'm a fan of his work.

And can't we all, at the very least, be happy that Burlesque didn't get a nomination and won, like at the Golden Globes? Now, THAT would have been a travesty.

Ditto.

And I'll go so far as to point out that DisneyJedi, you're behaving way inappropriately here. Step back and think about what you're complaining about -- an award for Best Song. That's cool if you think Tangled should have won. It's considerably less cool that you want Randy Newman to get hit by a bus. Any other forum, your rant here would have gotten you suspended or banned. I'm giving you another chance to return to rational posting.

Emm, no. Personally I find those two "Burlesque" songs to be way way way better than Newman's "We Belong Together". Newman's song shouldn't have been nominated at all.

Seriously, let's put aside the "tune" or "melody" of Newman's song that you might like. You are actually telling me you enjoy listening to him singing? :? The horror! :o

Honestly, the last time I was even remotely upset with the oscars was way back when The Silence of the Lambs won out over Beauty and the Beast, and to be fair I was still a young, naive teenager that thought such a win might change the course of history or something. :p But you know what, folks? It's just entertainment.

You know what I did during the oscars this year? I went out shopping for the Megamind Blu-ray. I do think it's cool to watch the show and check out the winners and I can definitely understand discussions and disappointments over the outcome, but unless you're directly involved with creating the films that get nominated, it's a waste of time and energy to take it to such a personal level by screaming at people and making death wishes (I doubt that even the snubbed nominees would be pleased to read much of the ranting going on in this thread). Seriously, it would be nicer (and even more productive) to put forth such passion toward real world issues that you can actually do something about.

Well, I posted in the Toy Story 3 thread on my thoughts on the Best Song win/loss, and I'll reiterate them here. Basically, although "We Belong Together" wasn't bad, I still much prefer "I See the Light". Randy Newman wrote some better songs that lost the award to lesser songs ("You've Got a Friend in Me", "Down in New Orleans"), so that may possibly why he was given a push this time. Potential Academy bias, end of story. But on a positive note, it's not as though the songs in this film will necessarily be forgotten. Most Disney songs and scores that were nominated from the Walt era didn't win, but they are probably better remembered than what won that year; more people know "Bibbidi Bobbidi Boo" better than "Mona Lisa" (the winner from 1950), for example.

And to add something more to the thread...I finally saw the film, in 3D no less, after many things stopping me from seeing it. And I'm going to post later more precise thoughts on the actual film, but let me just say something for the time being...

...I DIDN'T LIKE IT...

...I FREAKIN' LOVED IT. :D

Yes, I do like his singing. He's no Josh Groban, but his voice suits the folksy songs that he tends to write. And to be honest, I can't even imagine Groban singing "You've Got a Friend Like Me."

But, when he does deviate from his usual style, Newman is smart enough to know his voice doesn't suit it. I can't imagine him singing "When She Loved Me." Sarah McLaughlin, on the other hand? Perfect choice.

The thing is, it will be long before Menken will have the chance to be nominated again for an Oscar snce he has no film projects in develpment as of now. He stated as such in a recent interview.

It's fair to say that people can like the sound of Randy Newman's voice. One doesn't have to sound conventionally pretty to be able to interpret a song well, witness Bob Dylan. I don't particularly care for the guy at all, but I don't begrudge anyone for finding him to their tastes.
