Anything but "If I Rise". God I hate that song.
To each their own DISNEYJEDI. Could you just drop it. We all know how you feel about it already, please stop creating unnecessary drama. I hardly come on here because of this and i am sure a lot of people feel that way. I see you posting the same over on TS3 thread. This topic is going way off and i'm reporting!

You really think Tangled is better than Dragon? If anything took Tangled's spot, it was The Illusionist. TS3 and Dragon were the two to beat this year. (Illusionist was a great movie, btw)phan258 wrote:Frankly, as much as I was hoping for Tangled to win, I just had a feeling it wouldn't. Not getting a silly gold statue doesn't reduce its value in my eyes (although I still think it was wrong to give HTTYD the nom for Best Animated film instead of Tangled, since TS3 was a lock and they had to include a foreign film for posterity....and y'know, maybe it was actually good or whatever). I think the huge success Tangled's been enjoying at the box office speaks for itself.
As much as I like Tangled and it's soundtrack, there's no way "I See The Light" deserved best song. Look at this way, crazy people overreacting about it not winning: maybe Alan Menken will look at the fact that it didn't win, say "hmm... now I'm more determined to do a great job on the next Disney film I work on," find a new lyricist (FOR GOD'S SAKE.) and hit, say... Snow Queen (or whatever the next musical Disney decides to do happens to be) out of the park.
I don't think We Belong Together OR I See The Light deserved it. I think the one from 127 Hours should have gotten it.
EDIT: Oh, and DisneyJedi 4TEHBAN. I think someone ought to make a music video of Louis the Alligator being killed to the soundtrack of We Belong Together.

Seriously, what's your problem, do you work for Disney and there's a clause in your contract that says that if they don't win for every nomination they get, you don't get paid or something? You're taking this way too personal, and it's over the oscars, the frigging oscars!DisneyJedi wrote:Well, then they're dumbasses.Coolmanio wrote: Don't be rude to me. Neither did "We Belong Together." Which is where the fuss comes from.SWillie! wrote:As much as I like Tangled and it's soundtrack, there's no way "I See The Light" deserved best song.
This'll never be as bad as the DVD vs. Blu threads though.pinkrenata wrote:Awww, you fanboys are so cute.![]()

Listening to most often lately:
Christina Aguilera ~ "Cruz"
Sombr ~ "homewrecker"
Megan Moroney ~ "Beautiful Things"

I'm sorry, I've gone through this whole thread and I'm still confused about your position on "Toy Story 3." Could you help me out here?DisneyJedi wrote:Well, then they're dumbasses.Coolmanio wrote: Don't be rude to me. On The Academy Awards they said he previously won for Ragtime, not for Monsters. Inc. Well, I love Toy Story 3, but I love Tangled more. Thus, I don't think We Belong Together deserved the award. Simple as that. End of story, goodbye! The end!SpringHeelJack wrote:I'm sorry, I've gone through this whole thread and I'm still confused about your position on "Toy Story 3." Randy Newman does not deserve the recognition he gets. His talent is very limited. The particular song "We Belong Together" is excruciatingly bad and it sounded like every other Pixar song he ever wrote. Not to mention his awful voice makes you wanna cringe and yet somehow he believes he can sing.
I have been cheering for Menken but I wouldn't mind if another song had won which actually deserved it. "Coming Home" was a pretty good song and it would be a good choice, and even"If I Rise" (despite that I find it kinda pretentious). Any other would be more fair that Newman's. That was a really awful song IMO.
I wouldn't mind if Newman gets awarded for something good he actually wrote (like "Almost There", "Friend on the Other Side", "When She Loved Me", and the songs for "Cats Don't Dance") but usually his work for Pixar sucks eggs.
His other Oscar-winning song "If I Didn't Have You" was equally painful. The love the Academy has for him is not fair or rational. I just don't get it. I'm not saying he's totally talentless; his work is sometimes "descent" but never "amazing" or "brilliant". There are like a gazillion better songwriters than him in Hollywood; it's not just Menken who is better than him.

Yeah, I really do think Tangled was better than HTTYD....by far. I really enjoyed HTTYD, but honestly I've been scratching my head over the insane amount of praise it's been getting. Yes, it's visually gorgeous. Yes, the dragons are awesome (and pretty much the only really solid thing the movie's got going for it imho). The voice acting was weak, music was alright....Hiccup's injury was the only moment that movie had me very emotionally involved, whereas Tangled made me cry multiple times. Overall I thought it was fun, but not OMFG AMAZING. But what do I know, I hated Pixar's UP and everyone adores that movie....maybe it's just me.

Between Thursday and Sunday, Tangled was shown in my university's movie theater six times along with Harry Potter. I went to all six showings.
All the showings were practically full, which is really cool because it meant that no matter how old you are (in this case, college students), you are never too grown up for a Disney flick. In each of the showings, the audience ate it up. Pascal, Maximus, Flynn, and the thugs all got big laughs. I even saw smiles on the faces of most guys throughout the film. They all responded well to all the songs, except When Will My Life Begin Reprise. Maybe it was my imagination, but the vibe I got from all the showings during the beginning of the reprise was "Ugh, another song?". They really seemed to enjoy I've Got a Dream and I See the Light. At the end of each showing, everyone clapped.
My friends who went to at least one showing really liked the movie, but all of them loved the songs in The Princess and the Frog better. BTW, Princess and the Frog was shown last year at my school. I went to three out of the six showings, and everyone loved it and clapped at the end. Anyway, they all agreed Tangled is funny and the perfect movie for kids/perfect coming of age story, but Princess and the Frog was a better love story with better music. I know most people on this board detest the songs in Princess and the Frog, but apparently the general public seem to differ. A couple of people also mentioned how there was a lot of singing in Tangled (in a negative manner). One person even stated that it had more singing than Princess and the Frog, but I pointed out that Frog had more songs (unless you count When Will My Life Begin Reprise 1, then it's equal).
As for me, I love both movies equally and cannot choose. All I can say is that there is still a big audience out there for Disney fairy tale musicals and I cannot wait to see what the future holds for the company!
That's all.
P.S. After my total of nine viewings, I have concluded that I love what the writers did to the fairy tale and it definitely works as a comedy-adventure. As for the name itself, Tangled is fine...but something along the lines of "The Hidden Tower" or "The Secret Tower" would have probably worked better.
